Full review and pics on http://dairycream.blogspot.sgTip Top is not a new name to many Singaporeans, especially those who lived in Ang Mo Kio area. Famous for its "tip top" curry puff, it has now launched an all-new Nyonya Beef Rendang ($1.40) curry puff, created from a home recipe by simmering beef with spices for long hours.  It was sheer joy tucking into the new Beef Rendang because the meat is soft and not too dry, with a tantalizing subtle sweetness that is not usually found in curry puffs. Across all three types of curry puff, the ratio of filling to skin was perfect, but the quality of the pastry skin wielded less clout among the curry puffs specialists in Singapore. Even after trying to toast or microwave them, the pastry skin remained soft and pliable, yet achieving its full potential of crisp and flakiness. ........ continue reading

At first plan to order curry puff, but need to wait at least an hour as it is sold out. So in the end order a tofu cheese stick which costs $1.80. It tastes like fish cake with melted cheese flowing. But not crispy. Feel more like something straight from the supermarket. continue reading

Curry puff!! When mentioning curry puff, old chang kee will be the one that will come to my mind first as I usually brought it from them. However, this time round as I am shopping around the ang mo kio area, I have managed to spot this famous curry puff stall and decided to buy some and try it. First of all, the curry puff is well deep fried, have a very nice golden brown colour and there is not sign of any oil. As for the fillings, the potato is well seasoned with a mild turmeric flavour, have a slightly spicy taste as compared to old chang kee and also have a quarter sliced of the hard-boiled egg in it. Lastly, the size of the curry puff is much smaller as compared to old chang kee but it still retains a crispy crust even after leaving for an hour after buying it. Price wise is around $1.30 if I am not wrong.   continue reading

Another visit to Ang Mo Kio to patronise Tip Top Curry Puff. Still not use to their new exterior, prefer the previous which was more down to earth and with a modest feel. Tip Top Curry Puff (The Puff Factory) is halal certified. Hence, Muslim friends will be able to savour this. The packaging has also changed. Use to be plain packaging with no design. Now it comes with prints that showcase the name and also the website of Tip Top. Well, this is the norm now, branding plays a big role. I guess part of the price increase (i.e. 20cents) was partly due to the re-branding. With a price increase, somehow, the size of the curry puff has shrunk slightly. Ironic.Crisp crust while the inside was full of moist mashed potatoes, chicken chunks, egg with spices. But it was not as fragrant as before. Standard has dropped? Remember, how I mentioned in my previous posts that one could smell the curry puff from afar. You can literally smell your way to the shop if you can't locate it. Now, you would not be able to do that - no more of that wonderfully aroma (smell).Detailed review and photos: http://foodiefc.blogspot.sg/2013/02/tip-top-curry-puff-ang-mo-kio-revisit.htmlPs: I found out subsequently that Tip Top owner has sold their business and reopen another one called AMK Curry Puff at Toa Payoh Central. Famous curry puff in Ang Mo Kio area! The curry puff may be small in size but full of ingredients inside. Every bite, there will be chicken... as for the potato, they are chopped into small pieces, covered evenly with the curry. The crust skin was not thick, just nice There was half of the egg inside too! The curry puffs are freshly made in their back kitchen. continue reading
