We have all heard about the dying heritage of our local hawker business whereby the younger generations are unable to take over but lately there was a influx of young hawkers into such industry which makes a turnaround to the news. The flagship stall of Truly Curry Rice comes from Telok Blangah Drive Food Centre whereby 2 youngsters gave up their high paying jobs from Forex Traders to becoming hawkers.Truly Curry Rice Stall is relatively new in Ayer Rajah Food Centre and are selling Hainanese Style of Curry Rice. The stall is rather straight forward with the standards food items like pork belly, 'lionhead" (minced meat ball), egg, fried porkchop, etc. Unlike most of the Hainanese Curry Rice Stall, Truly Curry Rice has indicative price for their items pasted on wall, thus patrons can have a rough gauge of the overall pricing while ordering. Minimum order of 50 cents goes to the rice, while vegetables at $1 and meat items at $1.50 each. Price is pretty market rate. The combination of my meal includes pork chop, braised cabbages and minced meat ball. Meat ball is huge and well seasoned with hints of garlic. It has two different shades of colors, perhaps half of it was immersed in the gravy that's why. While the braised cabbages was perfectly done, taken up from the warmer and fried porkchop lean and tasted abit dry. The rice was drizzled with 2 kinds of thick lucious curry sauce which makes up a plate of Haianese Curry Rice! All was good except that the rice was abit overcooked with moisture.Review from http://www.umakemehungry.com/2014/12/truly-curry-rice.html continue reading
