With the long queue during lunch period, this means that the food is definitely worth a try. Apart from the traditional ayam penyet chicken set, this stall also offers the fish penyet set, deep fried ebi set as well as the chicken wing set. For their chicken wing set, it comes with a huge slice of the deep fried beancurd as well as some salad to complement on the deep fried food. Their chicken wing is well cooked and marinated. It has a very crunchy and crispy skin and it does not taste oily at all. Well done !! The chicken is fresh and also has a tender texture as well. As for the beancurd, it is not overly deep fried, and a slight crispy outer skin and a soft texture on the inside. At a price of $3, it is definitely worth the money !!  continue reading

I happened to passby NUS that evening and I was told by a staff that there was a famous Ayam Penyat stall at one of the canteen nearby. When I reached there, it was almost 7pm their closing time and there was a long queue. I saw their menu board and wanted to order the yummy looking Fried Fish set but was soldout, hence I ordered the Ayam Penyat set.The Ayam Penyat had a big fried chicken drumstick. The skin of the chicken tasted very crispy and savoury, it taste something like KFC. The meat of the chicken however was a bit dry and rough. The rice had curry sauce on it and it taste good. I wonder if they sell curry chicken. The chilli was too spicy and too raw for my liking. I would prefer they give sweet sambal chilli instead. continue reading

So at a price of $1, you get a quite generous pack of prawn crackers that are of many colours and also a mixture of different crackers which is quite interesting. You can have it as a snack when you are bored or have it along with your food which is from their menu. Mostly I see others buy and have it together with their food . Like when you have nasi briyani, you go with papadam. The crackers are always available but usually they will put like a few packs (about 4-5) at the counter to sell and top it up when it is running low. Even towards the evening, they are still selling. The taste is crunchy and not lack of air-tightness. Do grab one to try. continue reading

I decided to be healthy and avoided ordrering the fried ayam penyet. Instead, I ordered the steamed chicken rice set, which comes with a deliciously tender chicken leg, salad and rice drenched in rich fragrant curry gravy. The steamed chicken came with a nice sweet black sauce which enhanced the flavour of the chicken drumstick. The curry gravy was thick and aromatic, definitely went really well with the chicken! The salad provided was also fresh- the lettuce where fresh and crunchy. continue reading

have been eating from this store for quite a while but only recently i notice that you can select the type of chicken parts for the ayam penyent. normally is the normal chicken breast meat but i just realised you can choose the thigh meat which is much more meaty and easier to eat. i felt the meat is also more tender than the chicken breast so i guess this is a better choice continue reading
