Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf, Lava bao , chicken frets, BBQ Pork noodle rolls , carrot cake with XO sources , spinach dumplings and Milk Tea. The services is not so nice and active compared other Tim Sum customer service possible to insufficient and space. Taste of Lava bao is very good and not too salty. A lot of customer orders also. BBQ Pork Noodle Rolls is normal but spinach dumplings is fastantic but skin seem a little thick. Carrots cake with XO source make a difference and different from other resturant. Ending with milk tea which I found it shoik and it is strong taste than watery. Solid and not too sweet. Overall I recommend Spinach dumplings and Lava Bao. Another outlet at Chinatown which post on the wall if you like to try.

HK Summer Iced Tea (冰镇奶茶) $3.20 - Smooth in texture and rich in flavour. This is their famous iced milk tea. The ratio of tea and milk are in right proportion which i like, with acceptable sweetness. The cup of tea is place in a bowl of ice so that the ice will not dilute the drink and affect its taste. Very considerate thought for the customers.

Golden Egg Yolk Lava Buns (黄金流沙包) $4.80 - Bestseller

One of their bestseller, the salted egg yolk oozed out from the bun when you take a bite at it. Savoury, buttery and rich in flavour. The buns are fluffy and soft in texture. It is really nice to eat with the filling in it. These buns are a must try.

Siew Mai $4.80 - 4 pieces of pork filled dumplings. The pork are juicy and sweet and the fillings are quite generous considered that it is wrapped thinly. Yummy!! I would recommend this dish.

Victor's King Prawn Dumpling (超级虾饺皇) $5.20 - This is another must try dish. The dumplings were sweet and crunchy, it is also filled with 2 whole BIG prawns wrapped within the dumpling!! Wow!!! Usually, most Har Kao are wrapped with 1 or 1 & half prawn in it. Hence, this is really a surprise and enjoyment to me.

Chili Specialty - Don't be deceived by it's look, this is really spicy. I guess it is made up of dry chili and garlic and blend together? LOL, try it yourself.

Steamed Carrot Cake w/ XO Sauce (XO酱干贝腊味蒸萝卜糕) $4.80 - This is one of their specialty dish. On the outside, the steamed carrot cake look like paste. However, after u cut it open, strands of carrots slices lay underneath the paste. This diminished the overall texture of this dish. I only like the upper layer of the paste. Although the strands of carrot are soft, but it just don't match with the texture. Really disappointed. Light soy sauce are poured over the carrot cake for flavour,

Golden "Bo Lo" Char Siew Butter Buns (菠萝蜜汁叉烧包)$5.20 - A new item on the menu. You can really smell the butter when it is served hot. Crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. The buns are filled with chunky pork meat fillings.

Nemo's Porridge $4.80 - Sliced fish with preserved egg porridge. A bit bland in flavour but it comes with generous serving of sliced fish and eggs. Porridge are cooked till slightly thicken and mushy texture.

Verdict 3.5 /5

Well, i wasn't expected much since i heard that the standard of food drop drastically. I feel that most of the food here are edible but nothing fantastic. I like the "Bo Lo" Char Siew Butter Buns served here as it is really delicious and fragrant while serve hot. The ice milk tea is also tasty and smoothing.

The service i receive wasn't that great too. For me as a first timer, the "auntie" simply place the order form on the table and leave without any instructions. So i ordered the food that i like to have and "seek" someone to attend to me. The time that i went was after 2pm, after lunch hour, hence by right shouldn't have much difficulty seeking for attention. But it prove otherwise.

Despite all, i still feel that you should come and visit here if you have not done so. I will visit here again if i really have an urge to eat the dim sum.

Bo luo char siew bao is a recommended item. The crust is very crispy and is a chewy bun, char siew in it is not too sweet as well. The Xo carrot cake is quite special as it is a steamed one, quite salty but worth a try. Yam cake is recommended by them, you can really bite onto the yam in it. King size prawn dumpling is slightly more expensive as compared to the one at other places as they really have bigger prawn in it but i feel that there is nothing special about it.

The dish which Victor’s Kitchen is well known for is the Golden Egg Yolk Lava Bun ($4.00). A little bite sets the fluffy bun to explode, but we were not a fan of the layer of oil that we had to get through in order to taste the Salted Egg Custard filling. The version that Victor’s Kitchen serves may appeal to those who love their liu sha bao to have more salted egg yolk for its filling, which is tipping towards the salty scale.

Victor’s King Prawn Dumpling ($5.00) as with all dishes with shrimp also had a large and fresh prawn wrapped in a translucent skin, but the skin was missing of that particular bounciness which makes it seemed a tad normal somehow.

Served in a dish rather than pan-fried and cut into various slices, the Scallop, Sausages Carrot Cake in XO Sauce ($4.00) was a delight. Bouncy carrot cake with bits of lupcheong with shreds of radish, it was easily a winner with a savoury XO sauce that completes the dish by offering another dimension of flavour.

We did not get the rosey part of the Rosey Wine Char Siew Bun ($4.00), but all we knew was that the bun was really fluffy and fragrant with generous amounts of char siew filling. The pork chunks were sizable and covered in a thick and sticky Char Siew sauce.

Another dish that we loved was the Pork Ribs in Black Bean Sauce ($3.00), which was just savoury with the sauce taking in the flavours of the meat as though simmered for hours. The small chili helped in creating that extra refreshing spicy kick that intensifies the flavour as well.

King Prawn Chee Cheong Fun ($4.00) was enjoyable, with the rice roll of the right thickness. It was also slippery as it glides down the throat effortlessly. Prawns were huge and fresh as well and created a nice chew for the rice rolls. We also loved that they do not scrimp on the sauce; something that other restaurants do so often now which makes the dish pales in comparison.

Another variant of the Chee Cheong Fun, Youtiao Chee Cheong Fun ($3.50) was actually rice rolls rolled with dough fritters in between. Achieving a crispy yet smooth texture, this dish was perfectly executed, with different dimensions of saltiness demonstrated by both the dough fritters and the soy sauce.

Spinach dumplings at $4.00 has quite thick and hard dumpling skin that is too dry and the spinach filling 8s generous but somehow is too salty and is really thirsty after eating it.  The salted egg custard egg yolk buns at $4.50 for 3 small pieces are quite expensive. The bun texture is chewy but too thick as well.  The custard is too salty and not really that flowy and little dry. Staffs service are rough and not that friendly here. Very few stalls in Singapore sell 'Zha Leong' Cheong Fun and I've been wanting to try it after hearing about such a cheong fun! This is my first time trying and I was pretty excited! However, to my dismay, I didn't really like the combination of fried youtiao in the chee cheong fun and prefer to have them separately!

Their carrot cake is not the fried ones but rather it is steamed with scallop and sausage in XO sauce. It looks good but disappointingly, the taste is rather bland for us. I guess we prefer the pan-fried carrot cake!

One special thing worth mentioning is that they served their milk tea differently. Instead of putting the ice inside the cup, it is outside in a bowl and the cup of milk tea in the bowl above the ice.

Tucked at level 1 of Sunshine Plaza which is about 10-15mins walk from Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, Victor's Kitchen has been around for almost a decade here. Before going in, I realize not only the usual news paper coverage plastered on the front glass panel but also the interior looks much brighter and welcoming! Also, the grumpy lady boss was nowhere to be seen. I panicked for awhile hoping that the kitchen staffs are still the same. To my relief, I saw Victor in the kitchen who is the founder of this popular dim sum eatery.

We ordered a few of their popular dishes to try and we definitely can't be missing out on the highly raved Golden Egg Yolk Lava Bun ($4.50 for 3pcs). Doing the "egg yolk porn", we can see that the piping hot lava flowing out smoothly. For those with a sweet tooth, this has lots of butter to give it that rich and creamy mouth-feel when bite open. It is recommended to make a small opening on the bun first before taking a bite into it as the hot lava will gush out, making a mess. I enjoyed this as they were very generous on the filling which gives it that irresistible "oomph" factor. Trust me, one is never enough!

Their signature dish, the XO Sauce Steamed Carrot Cake ($4.50) is also my favourite dish over here. Although the serving is small, the moist carrot cake is filled with delectable ingredients like scallop and Chinese sausage. Topped with a nice layer of luscious brown sauce, I can't wait to dig in and have it all by myself. The XO sauce has a nice fragrance that is lightly spicy with the taste of dried shrimps. Delicious it might be, the downside of it is that you will have to top up a small fee of $0.50 for additional serving of the sauce which is so precious to every mouthful of carrot cake.

Ending off our dim sum craving, we had the Rosey Wine Yummy Char Siew Bao ($4.50 for 2 pcs). On the first glance, the bun of the Char Siew Bao is handmade due to the irregular shape and the outer layer looks fluffy to the bite.

Peeling it open, the filling of the bun reveals a generous amount of diced char siew droused in honey goodness! Taking a bite into the bun feels so good as the fluffy texture of the bun complements the nice filling as it isn't too overwhelming in flavour. The portion of it was just nice and the lingering sweetness of char siew in the mouth makes it delectable to the palate.

Overall, I felt the standard of the food is still as good and this round, a much pleasant dining experience with more friendly staffs that will go around checking on orders and serving up much quickly. Throughout my meal, we only took 20 minutes to eat and I would say this is a plus point for the office lunch crowd to settle their food quickly without waiting too long. With the brighter atmosphere, I felt that Victor's Kitchen has many more bright years ahead considering their undying popularity and consistency in food.

The dim sum here is really quite affordable, ranging from $3 – $4 per dish. I’m not usually a fan of spare ribs, but my friends decided to try the Spare Ribs with Black Bean Sauce 豉汁蒸排骨 ($3). It was very tasty and the meat was tender. But like I said, I don’t really know how to appreciate this boney dish. *shrugs*

Call me a traditionalist, but the Har Gow 蝦餃 ($4.50) is like the benchmark of a good Dim Sum restaurant. If the restaurant makes good Har Gow, then I’m sure the rest of the dishes will turn out to be quite good too. The Har Gow at Victor’s Kitchen is stuffed full of crunchy fresh prawns encased in a light skin. Probably one of the better Har Gow I’ve tasted.

But don’t expect much from the ambiance of the restaurant. It’s located in a rather small and stuffy shop, with tables tightly packed next to each other, so there is a bit of squeezing involved if you’re there at peak hour. Also, the restaurant is known for being closed without warning, even during days when they are supposed to be in operation. So it’s good to always have a backup plan in mind when you intend to visit Victor’s Kitchen.

Another must-have dim sum is the Siew Mai 燒賣 ($4) which usually comes with a pork and prawn filling. The siew mai at Victor’s Kitchen isn’t that special but the filling was crunchy and tasty. The flavour was pretty standard without any fancy mushrooms or wolfberry on top.

I didn’t really enjoy the Char Siew Pau 叉燒包 ($3.50) here because it was not as fluffy as it looks in photos and the skin was a little too thick for me. The char siew filling wasn’t that fantastic also – better than normal hawker center standard but not on par with other Chinese restaurants.

Traditionally eaten with pig intestines, Chee Cheong Fun 猪肠粉 ($3) nowadays comes in lots of other fillings like char siew, prawns or even scallops. We ordered the prawn one that day. The thing about chee cheong fun is that you should definitely eat it while it’s hot and not let it sit for too long – actually that applies to all steamed dim sum. The skin isn’t as silky smooth and I thought it tasted quite normal.

Crispy on the outside and crunchy on the inside, this Deep Fried Beancurd Skin with Prawn 鮮蝦付皮卷 ($4) is pretty good. It’s a very simple dish basically just prawn wrapped in beancurd skin and deep fried to a crisp, but the saltiness of the beancurd skin goes together with the prawn really nicely.

I’ve heard quite a few of my friends raving about the Salted Egg Custard Bun 流沙包 ($4) at Victor’s Kitchen and now I know just why they have been so crazy over these small little buns. The salted egg yolk filling was rich and buttery, though I found the skin of the bun to be not so fluffy. But this is one awesome Liu Sha Bao in my opinion. =D

Overall, I had a good time at Victor’s Kitchen and walked out of there with full and satisfied tummies. Just don’t expect top-notch service here, though the aunties are pretty friendly. It’s very much your typical Cantonese Dim Sum place with direct, no-frills kind of service with a bit of shouting across the room during peak hours – basically you sit, order, eat and get out. And I definitely look forward to the next time I visit again!

Victor's kitchen is really popular among the dim sum lovers. They are very much compared to Swee Choon dim sum because the prices are roughly the same. Well here's my take. In fact, some times they don't even care if they have offended you because you are just a negligible order compared to the queue. Seats are aplenty. usually dont have to wait for very long but you mi

Seats are aplenty. usually dont have to wait for very long but you might have to sit very close to strangers. There's not much individual tables.

Food wise, pretty alright because if i'm not wrong, the owners are from hong kong.
