Wan Chai always seems to be very crowded and seats are quite limited. Fortunately, there are only two of us so we can skip a few people ahead and get seats as it is much easier to seat two than 3 or 4. We ordered desserts as we already had our main meal. I ordered the traditional dessert, the almond paste while my friend got the barley beancurd sweet soup. We shared the two bowls among the both of us and I have to say I preferred my almond paste. The almond paste here is thick and rich and it has a nice fragrance of almond. It is also not too sweet. On the other hand, the barley beancurd is just normal and I felt that the soup has more sugar taste than from the taste of barley/beancurd. I personally wouldn't order that again, but the almond paste is worth trying!

Shrimp Dumpling Noodle ($5.90++)
I've always preferred the Hong Kong version of preparing Shrimp Dumpling Noodles to the Malaysian ones, reason being it tastes more original (without all the sweet sauce submerging the noodles and you could truly enjoy the natural flavours of the ingredients) . We found the noodles to be quite springy and chewy. The dumplings, however, were the true star of this simple dish - big, juicy and solid! Oh, and did I mention that their chili sauce is a definite must-try?

Ginko Nut with Barley ($2.30++)
The dessert, however, paled in comparison to the staple. It was quite sweet and pretty average. Perhaps the various pastes might be a better choice?

Overall, it was still a good, simple and authentic HK fare that is value for money!

This meal was so disappointing on so many levels I can't even begin to describe it. Firstly, it is called Eel with Lettuce and Seaweed, but I could barely see any seaweed and I surely did not see a single piece of lettuce. The eel was thin and very stale. I could barely finish the whole thing! I regret spending $9.80 on this, it is definitely not worth it. Will definitely stick with the more conventional Hong Kong food that Wan Chai offers next time.

Was looking for a place to have dinner at lot 1 but most places were quite packed. We headed for the basement of lot 1 and was surprised to find wan chai half empty!! I ordered the chicken and Chinese sausage rice set for take-away. I waited for less than 20 mins for my food to arrive which was rather fast compared to other modern restaurants. The chicken was boiled to just the right texture and the taste of it was juicy and flavourful. The whole meal cost me about 6.5 but it was rather worth it as the portion was huge and the dishes were plentiful!

The place requires patrons to tick their orders on a slip of paper and walk over to the cashier to place the order. Though they serve the food to the table. A nice touch to the rice was that a bowl of soup accompanied every main you order. The whole meal cost me $9.10, inclusive a GST of 60cents.

Chicken Leg Baked Rice
Portion was huge, I managed to eat only 3/4 of the whole plate before I gave up trying to stuff myself. The chicken leg was also big, and the skin was really nice and tasty. Flesh was tender, though it was pretty oily. There were carrots at the side, though I didnt touch them. The amount of cheese was just nice, but rice portion was too much for me. The sauce with the rice was too salty to my liking.

Soup
The soup smelt like some herbal concoction of some sort, but it was actually veggies (I presume it was seaweed) soup. There was a very strong taste of seaweed which I disliked, so I drank only 5 mouthfuls of it and as my friend said it was good for health, she drank finished my whole bowl of soup after that.

Overall, satisfying meal as portion is very worth the price; I was really full.

Ordered the curry chicken baked rice at Wan chai hong kong tea room at lot 1 and i find it rather worth it. Firstly, the price is reasonable. It's around less than $10.Secondly, the food tasted really good and it's not very oily even though the cheese is quite alot. And the portion is quite big! Thirdly, the service is fast. I manage to get my food in less than 15 mins. Other than that, they also serve a wide range of food such as soup, noodles and even dessert which taste equally tasty!

Prawn paste chicken X3 pieces $5.50
The smell of the prawn paste chicken and the crispy and sizzling hot of the chicken with the smoke immersed in to your eyes and nose with every bite of the crispy and yummy chicken. This is simply heaven.

Ice hongkong Yuan Yang $3 with a vanilla ice cream on top.
The cold version would be topped with ice cream, although it was not mentioned in the menu. With the bitter and sweet taste of the drink and the ice cream respectively, it makes the whole drink addictive!

I went to wan chai with a group of friends for a meal, I ordered their baked cheese chicken curry rice. it really taste as good as it sound. The rice is baked just right, there are some charred rice stuck at the side of the dish. The chicken drumstick is indeed huge. It was very tender and juicy as well. They really spammed a lot of cheese. Every bite you take, you can taste their cheese. The curry flavour added a little something to the dish, makes it very mouth watering.
