The sumptous sukiyaki pot filled with lots of goodies!

We also ordered a pizza to share and its really good! You know how amazing it is when the Japanese restaurants are equally good or better at creating Western dishes? Or maybe its just their take of the dish. I always though its quite costly eating at Watami but with the sets, its quite affordable.

deep fried chicken rice bowl
the chicken was quite crispy and tender but they were quite oily and had visible fats in it.

we ordered 2 sets for 6 pax and it was enough for all of us to have a filling meal. There's a $49 and $59 set available. Portion's too much for 2 pax and it will be ideal for 3 to share.

Beside sushi tei, Watami is my next favorite japanese restaurant as they serve affordable and yummy food. I'm back again to this place and this time round I've tried out different dishes. From my experience, Watami's food and service never fail to please us. Going back for more of their variety of food is certainly the thing to do as showing support to them.

And to save the hassle, we choose their Special Set menu at $59 for 2 persons rather than being so indecisive in ordering.

Caesars Salad Half w Hot Spring Egg Half

First thought, it was a normal bowl of salad that has hard-boiled eggs. But here, they used soft-boiled egg instead. I can't figure out if they put salad sauce or is the effect of the egg that makes the overall taste just like any other Caesars Salad. Can you imagine when you can't differentiate if it is sauce or soft-boiled egg that is blend/mix with the salad? This is definitely awesome. Everything is good for this bowl of salad, fresh ingredients. What's more can you ask for?

Salmon Sashimi

It is never enough when it comes to fresh salmon sashimi. 6 slices for 2 persons. I need about 10 slices on my own. Dipped in the light soya sauce, it is just so perfect.

Agetate Atsuage (Deep Fried Tofu)

I still don't understand why they top it with Katsuobushi (or okaka) but anyway as usual like any other Japanese restaurants, this deep fried tofu is crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. But it tastes bland. So what I do is dipped with the soup base of Kankoku Butechige hotpot. The way I have it is just like I'm having Malay food called Lontong. But at least in this way, it tastes a little better than just bland. Try it. Or maybe you can invent another way of eating instead of mine.

Ebi Tempura Maki - Main Dish

It is simply just shrimp tempura roll. Nothing to rave about. But for certain, this is just to satisfy our craving for sushi as it has been long since we had it. Okay maybe I should say that the shrimp has a little sweetness on every bite. The shells are kind of soft.

Kankoku Butechige - Hotpot

Here comes the hotpot. In their menu, it says that it is some Korean style of army hotpot that serves with pork in it. It comes with a bowl of Japanese rice too. And this is the soup base that I used to dip my fried tofu. You can find 2 types of mushrooms, pork belly, carrot, potato, mini sausage, small amount of kimchi, tofu, beansprouts, instant noodles, cabbage and one special thing and that is Ddeokbokki aka Korean Stir Fried Rice cake. Amazing right? Can you imagine when the soup is boiled, a variety of flavours come bursting in your mouth? The ingredient that made up this hotpot are nice and tasty. Most importantly, fresh!

Hotate Butter Yaki - Side Dish

Because being too judgmental, I thought I'm cheated again when it was served up. Small or shrinked scallops. But it tastes good unexpectedly. We never sprinkle with lemon and just have it at its original. The taste is juicy and chewy. The scallops are probably dip in butter batter before pan-frying or just glazing over it with butter. The buttery taste is there.

And we end our meal with a Hot Jasmine Green Tea. Definitely worth the price for this Special Set and you don't have to be indecisive on what to choose. Portion wise is certainly enough for 2 persons. As it all depends on individual taste buds, my verdict may not be convincing but you can try it personally to prove me wrong.

A great lunch to do the work of the day. Filling your tummy with good that would do you good. For this meal, I think I have been overfilling my tummy that it almost exploded.

A good meal with my man, his sister and his sister boyfriend. Raving through the crowds at Jcube, browsing menus all over just to look for a specific Japanese restaurant to rest our legs and spend a few hours there. Everywhere was having a dragon-like queue and Watami probably was having the shortest queue but it was pretty packed too. The square feet of the restaurant was huge enough to fit about 50 people.

We are lazy to order different set meals hence, we just took the whole set meal for 4 pax. It cost about $169++. The serving was huge, but the food wasn't very fresh. We barely finished everything. It comes with a hotpot, a set of cold dish, a chirashi don, grill squid, clams hotplate soup.

The cold dish hotate was not even fresh. The shrimp tasted really bad. The grill squid was cold. The broth for the hotpot was pretty salty. Hmm, after all for the price I have paid, I believe we can have something much more better and worthwhile.

The staff service was really bad, they placed the wrong food at the wrong table. We wanted to order, kept our hands raising for about 10 mins ad only by then, they came to our table. Calling for bills, they're not attentive enough.

Hire Katsu: The pork cutlet is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and the sauce is superb!

Kinda of disappointed of the service, as the soup for Denjiang Chige Nabe & Sukiyaki was running low, we requested a top-up...we got a verbal confirmation but yet again, the waitress came only when Denjiang Chige Nabe & Sukiyaki was dry up!! We had to turn off the burner and remind them again that we had requested for soup top-up around 10 to 15min ago...

6 pieces of fresh juicy salmon sashimi, totally satisfy my sashimi crave for February.

Notice that it doesnt provide any soya sauce on the table. Therefore I have these pieces of fishes with wasabi only. Shiok!

Hotatae Butter Yaki (Grilled Scallops with Butter) with some grilled fungi (mushrooms) placed in the middle of the hot plate. Alittle bit too dry but overall tastes different. The udon behind was served with smoke coming out of it, i was quite surprised as the last time I dined in watami, it was served raw.

Beef sukiyaki, I will say is the main attraction for my meal. Comes with toufu, thin lean sliced pieces of the beef dip into the sweet black soup and yes! its very sweet, together with vegetables and fungi. Great tasting. Not to forget after cooking the slices of beef, do dipped the meat into the raw egg. Fantastic taste.

The ramen is so-so. Not below par but just right on the fence. Ramen has the powdery taste of common yellow noodle which I dislike. However, the stock that comes along with it blends some parts of the taste and took it away.

Love to see restaurant hiring eldery. Saw this uncle who collected our emptied plates and bowls promptly with a smile politely really. Salute him and the way he works! Also was quite surprised that they have a machine for queue ticketing system, something different from other Japanese restaurant. The lead of the waitress had somehow made us wait very long for the dessert, after 2nd round of reminder, our desserts comes about 20 mins later.

Ambience
Good, even though we are dinning as a pair, we get to sit in a table of 4. Spacious.

Price
Base on portion, the amount is ok.

Recommendation / Tips
Use their ticketing system.

This dish certainly is full of different types of nutritional value such as omega three from the salmon fish and also lots of vitamins and calcium contents from the melted cheese topped on it. The salmon fish is quite thick in portion and the fish meat is very fresh and juicy. The added melt cheese certainly has enhanced the flavour of it and make it even more appetitizing and looks appearing as well. Delicious and value for money!
