Bought a deal voucher and ate steamboat for dinner here. Each person has one mini pot of steamboat where you can choose your own soup base. There are a wide variety of food that you can order ranging from cooked food to the raw ones. Meat if pretty fresh except for the shrimps. Tom yam soup tastes quite good especially with meat and mushrooms! continue reading

An impromptu dinner with Angel, Ivy & Whye Wan. I was craving for steamboat few days ago, so Ivy suggested Xian De Lai 鲜得来, JEM. We were there on Tuesday evening & it wasn't crowdedThere is an option of Set meal or Ala Carte Buffet (can't remember the price, but it was aout $25), so we opt for the buffet. There are 5 soup bases to choose from, namely: Irresistible Sichuan Spicy; HealthyTonkotsu Soup; Bak Kut Teh Soup; Secret Recipe Duck Soup & Thai-style Tom Yum Soup. All of them choose the Healthy Tonkotsu Soup while I had Tom Yum. No complains from them, so I reckon it's passable. Tom Yum is mild sour & spicy.Variety of sauces were available at the center of table of the restaurant. Of which, only 4 catches my eye. Sesame Peanut Sauce (dilute & no sesame taste.. a little salty also); Spicy Peanut Sauce (not spicy & no peanut fragrant); Spicy Chilly w/bean (Not spicy & it's sweet cos of the bean) & Thai-style Chilli (not spicy; has a hint of sourness). Of the 4 sauces I tried, Thai-style Chilli proves to be the best dip for the night. There were more than 50 dishes to choose from, but... ... the portion were very small, so I suggest you order more if you;re a big eater. How small is the portion? Eg. 2 portions of prawns turn out to be only 8pcs (for 4 pax)! However, the ingredients were all very fresh.Apart from the fresh/ raw ingredients, there are also more than 15 side dishes to choose from. Braised Pork Belly in Tea Sauce is very flavorful & the pork is very soft. However, it is so fat you see a layer of oil on the pork belly when it has cool down! The buffet also comes with a dessert of the day. Most of the staffs here were from China & they were pretty friendly & attentive. continue reading

This is steamboat place where you can find most of the people dine in having steamboat. We there not for the steamboat but the grilled fish. We ordered Black Bean Grilled Fish($34.90++) although the famous one will be Sichuan Spicy麻辣(super spicy) one but I decided not to try that as I am getting sensitive to my skin again. They have 5 different types of grilled fish and all having the same price. The grilled fish and the gravy(soup) tasted quite good for me but please drink a lot of water after having it. This is good for sharing even with 4 people if you have rice to go with. Just one thing we are not get used to it is the oil floating on top of the soup, I actually removed that oil before I ate, some people might feel that is the good stuff. I actually removed 1.5 rice bowls' oil away.http://rainfooddiary.blogspot.sg/2013/08/xian-de-lai.html continue reading
