This was our first stop of our food hunt for today! Met my good friend, xr at Tanjong Pagar MRT & we began walking to this BKT eating house! After walking for about 12 minutes in this blazing hot sun, we finally reached the place! It would be hard to miss this place as it was spilling with people when we reached the place! Even at this time of the day, office workers clad in long sleeve shirts and dresses didn't mind sweating it out with this good BKT!

As we were gonna have lots and lots more of other wonderful things later in the day, we decided not to order too much! We went for the spare ribs instead of the pork ribs. Along with those, we had some peanuts, some pig trotters(lean version) and some youtiao! Although the youtiao wasn't freshly fried, it went superbly well with the lor sauce that the "ter kah" was in! THe sauce was super flavourful and sweet at the same time!

The peanuts are my personal favourite and everyone should definitely get a plate if they visit this place! The ter kah was also quite tender and not tough! The spare ribs weren't extraordinary and so was the soup. It was refreshing (of course), and peppery, but towards the end, it got quite bitter, i assume due to the peppercorns. Nonetheless it is a good place to go to if you want to have some good bkt!

Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh(亞華肉骨茶)

Although, Bak Kut Teh in Singapore is slightly a bit costly, but after tasting and trying numerous Bak Kut Teh stores in Singapore, this is one of the better ones. The service provided by the place is considerably good as compared to the other Bak Kut Teh stores. For example, the waitress would top up the soup of the Bak Kut Teh automatically, topping up of the soup is free and the best part is the Bak Kut given in each bowl of Bak Kut Teh was fantastic. Even though the soup had a lot of pepper in it, I still managed to empty the soup of the Bak Kut Teh a few times.

After about a decade since my last visit, I finally visited Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh again. Ya Hua BKT was crowned the best in the Bak Kut Teh category at the Singapore Hawker Masters in 2012. The Outram Ya Hua BKT that I had tried pales in comparison to this.

We arrived at a late evening and many of their items were sold out already. Even their pork ribs were out of stock and we had to settle for the pork meat (fillet?). The meat was tough but delectable. The soup was a tad too peppery but it was very satisfying. The taste of the soup was just right, not too sweet not salty.

Service was also fast and efficient. Overall, it is worth a try. If you are looking for bak kut teh haunts, try this!

Pig's kidney. It's soft and chewy but there's nothing really special about it if you want to know. The kidneys didn't really soak up the essence of the soup that well compared to pork ribs. Nevertheless, it was fresh.

My family has very high expectations when it comes to eating pork trotters. The fatty meat to lean meat ratio has to be perfect! We like our trotters to have slightly more lean meat to chew on while a reasonable amount of fatty meat to intensify the taste.

For those who are health conscious, well, this bowl of trotters might suit you. There's more lean meat compare to fatty meat. Just like the ribs, the meat have already soaked up all the essence of the soy broth.

In my opinion, a must have when you are having Bak Kut Teh. Fresh fried and not stale You Tiao (Deep fried dough fritter). It would seem very weird not to have them.

It's amazes how I would watch my fitter whenever intensely as I dip it into the soup. You gotta ensure that your you tiao doesn't get over soak and disintegrate. Not to mention guarding it from potential lazy bums who just wants to grab yours instead!

All in all, the dishes were rather satisfying. Apart from the dark soy sauce. I was baffled why their dark soy sauce looks like light soy sauce? My definition of a premium dark soy sauce has a dark reflective tone and it must be thick one...

They got the darkish reflection right but the thickness. A premium dark soy sauce in my opinion, will coat the meat with thick sauce and not merely stains it. So when you wanna have a bowl of bak kut teh, simply drop by Isetan Office Building...

Lastly for the pig trotters, the portion is very huge with decent amount of meat, fats and skin and was super tender, super soft, yet it did not have the over cooked feel at all.The sauce blend very nicely with the trotters and taste heavenly!!

The Price
Reasonably priced at $20++ for the whole bill

Overall
I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this!

ordered bak kut teh pork rib with you tiao and veggies and rice, and also asked for an extra bowl of soup.it was okay, the meat was not fatty so i don't feel as guilty and the soup base was not bad, the standard is there throughout themany times i've visited, and the best thing is the dough fritters is not oily so when you put it into the soup, it is like the dough fritters would suck up the soup making it so delicious!you can eat without the rice, too much carbohydrates is not good to the body.

Many good comments have been heard about the Bak Kut Teh at Ya Hua. The Bak Kut Teh was milder in flavor. The meat was tender and it came off the bone easily. However I prefer Bak Kut Teh that is more peppery. I also find the pig livers were sliced too thick. They were quite raw and soft in the middle. Most disappointing was the Youtiao. They were not crispy at all. They were mass prepared and left sitting on the service table.

this place is seriously over rated. I've been there a number of times and the pork ribs is consistently the same - tough and old. I'm not sure why people are saying it is juicy and tender, it is not. The youtiao is just so so, the soup is just peppery, the meat is really tough and old. My child had to spit out because it couldn't be chewed and swallowed.I can recommend a few places that are a lot less expensive and where the meat is tender, which what bat kut teh is all about. I can recommend a few places that are a lot less expensive and where the meat is tender, which what bat kut teh is all about. Try the buk kut teh at the food center in Bukit Merah Central. the one next to the NTUC. There is only one buk kut teh stall there. The soup is not peppery and has herbs. It's also a lot cheaper at $4 compared to $6 at Ya Hua place.

The key thing in any BakKut Teh, is not the Teh nor is it the You Tiao, or even the soup, it is the Bak Kut itself. It must be juicy and tender. This is a basic criteria. Unfortunately, this was not so.

On the first visit, it was tough and dry. I thought, maybe they had a bad day and overcooked the ribs. I went back to it again a few weeks later. The Bak Kut was still tough and dry. I thought maybe, it is just was not my lucky day.

I gave it another chance. In fact, I gave it 4 chances, because it was so popular and famous. I never got a tender and juicy bak kut in any of my visits.:

So I'm forced to draw a conclusion that people go there for the tea, the soup, the mei chye, even the you tiao, but the bak kut, I can't believe people like tough and dry pork ribs. My 10 year old son says his jaw was tired from chewing the pork ribs. It really is tough. We had to go somewhere else for dinner after that place because my son refused to chew on that pork rib any longer.

I've no idea why this place is so popular.

Yummy pork knuckles with lots of fats. The meat is cooked well enough to melt in your mouth. The sauce is delicious enough to be eaten with white rice and nothing else. Thumbs up for this dish!! $6 per bowl. The soup is quite blend. Salted vegetable that is not saltish and the taste is not very heavy. The light taste would go well with a small bowl of rice. It doesn't fight for attention with the peppery soup and yummy pork knuckles. S$2 per plate.

Don't forget to ask for free soup refill if you love soup like me!

How to tell if this Bak Kut Teh is a Teochew style or a Hokkien style? Simple, we look at the colour of the soup. The staff are nice and friendly and we could refill the soup anytime without having to pay extra charges. The pork ribs are cooked until nice and tender and dip into the soy sauce with chili padi. I love their preserved salted vegetable too. The fried dough is meant to be dipped into the soup and not eaten as it is as it has already turned soft and soggy.

Another dish that i will definitely order will be the Zhu Jiao. They will always try to serve a mixture of lean and fatter meat. Thumbs up for that!
