We yum cha-ed at Yum Cha Restaurant! There are so many dim sum served here that we were spoilt for choice! Love the siew mai and har gao! They are so tasty yet not salty. The char siew bao is another highlight too! Very nice sauce in the bun and you just cant get enough of it!

I brought friends from overseas to Yum Cha @ Chinatown to (1) Let them sightsee and shop around Chinatown and (2) let them taste the difference between dimsum in Singapore and HongKong. I liked the lotus paste bun and Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun, which is roast meat wrapped in rice noodles. The other dishes were not impressive. The place was also rather cramped and noisy but thats the trademark of an authentic dimsum restaurant i guess. For all tourists, this do not leave Singapore without trying

For all tourists, this do not leave Singapore without trying our version of dimsum, though to be honest, there are probably other restaurants offering better tasting dimsum.

i love the har gou at yum cha. i find it to be the nicest ones around. the skin they wrapped the prawn is very thin. but it is chewy to some extent. the prawn is very succulent and crunchy... and very fresh as well. i really enjoy the har gou at yum cha.

First visit to this Yum Cha outlet in Chinatown. Location is rather tricky if you are in a cab. It's on the right along Temple St. Almost missed it today. First visit to this Yum Cha outlet in Chinatown. Location is rather tricky if you are in a cab. It's on the right along Temple St. Almost missed it today. Also, the restaurant is located on the 2nd level. Thankfully, there is a lift but once out of the lift, you have to use instinct to decide which direction to get to the restaurant (my friend turned to the wrong direction upon exiting the restaurant!). My suggestion would be to put up a signage near the lift area to "point" customers to the correct direction.

First sight of the restaurant was welcoming - marble tables! I always liked marble tables where I can rest my hands on and "cool off" a little. There's a decent selection of dim sum. For a group of 3, we ordered the following:

Deep Fried Prawn Dumpling - a little disappointing as it looked dull and its taste is no better than those 3 for $2 at Koufu foodcourts!

Crystal Chive Dumplings - Another disappointing item. The skin was too thick. Felt like I was chewing on an edible rubber tape!

Xiao Long Bao - This was good! The soup within is very flavourful. I really enjoyed this dish!

Fried Beancurd Skin Roll with Prawns - Average. I've tasted crispier ones elsewhere.

Prawn and Mango Sesame Roll - This is not bad. Just be careful in eating immediately once served. The mango within is really hot!

Chee Cheong Fun with Fish - Sounds different right? That's why I tried it. It's nothing exotic really. Will still go for prawn filling for future visits.

Ee-Fu Noodles - No, this is not a dim sum item but we ordered it as we wanted a staple to fill our stomachs for the rest of the afternoon. It's not bad too.

Pomelo Sago in Mango Juice - This dish is a good end-off to my lunch. However, I thought it could be presented in a nicer serving bowl instead of what looks like a cheap plastic glass (no weight!). Also, the dish could be chilled further so that it's ice-cold when served. That would make me over the moon in today's hot afternoon!

Service was prompt at this outlet, even during lunch-time peak hours. The teapot gets refilled and dishes were served quickly. At least, the waiters/waitresses knew what we need/are waiting for, and not the usual "Oh, that's not served yet? I'll go check it out!" response/look you get from most eating places. Good service!

Total Cost (including 2 char siew paus, 1 tangyuen in ginger tea and 1 red bean paste not consumed by me): $69.30

This day was a day where my boyfriend & I ate till we drop.

We ate 23 dishes of dim sum.

Siew Mai.
Bao.
Chee Cheong Fun
Custard balls(our fav!)
Carrot cake
Xiao Long Bao(wasnt very good)
Prawn dumpling
Chives dumpling
Porridge.
Dessert:Gui ling gao,almond tea,& jelly.
They had this moshi thing that's really delicious.

Quality wise it was pretty good.Just that their xiao long bao need to be improved.
Overall great variety with great quality apart from their XLB.

One thing to note though.Be there early. We went there at 3.30pm & alot of items were finished. We end up have to eat things which we didnt order.

Will go there again but not soon. We've overload ourselves with dimsum.

Service was pretty good, the servers there were mostly aunties & sometimes they are not alert. We stand at the counter really long before someone served us.But overall experience was good.

Do not underestimate the fullness dim sum can bring.

My hunt for more dim sum is still on for my parents. This time we went to Chinatown Yum Cha. The dim sum is quite delicious. Simply love their siew mai, beancurd skin roll and chee cheong fan. The siew mai is very juicy and tasty. The chee cheong fan is very smooth, drenched with the gravy. A really good combination. The beancurd rolls is very nice, I love the ingredients they wrap inside. Everything goes really well with chinese tea.
