First we had one of the Specialties items, Soft Shell Crab with Mango Puree. Soft with no hints of crispiness, and made softer by the rich mango puree, I still enjoyed the soft shell shell crab served with fragrant and sweet chunks of mango and puree. It was a rather delightful combination.

Then there were the steamed Prawn Dumplings (SGD$4.80 aka Har Gow) - thin, melt-in-the-mouth skins embracing fresh springy shrimps bursting from their wombs.

The next dimsum dish was Shark's Fin with Meat Dumplings (SGD$3.80) - tasty with tender minced meat but the hints of shark's fins were minimal.

Now, Beancurd Roll with Superior Sauce (SGD$3.80) - I enjoyed this. The outside is crunchy and the inside is juicy with sumptuous stuffings - shrimps and meat.

Last but not least, we had the Fried Carrot Cake with Scallops. I enjoyed this as well - there was a very slight tinge of crispiness around the edges of the carrot cake cubes, and the interior was a lovely beancurd texture with strong flavor. The additional strips of scallops enhanced the carror cake tasty tremendously.

Ambience at Yum Cha Restaurant is typical of a premium fine dining restaurant, which touches of Imperial elegance and splendor. Chinese decor and plants adorn the room, as do images of Koi fish in the Yin Yang formation. Fine cutlery and tableware is used, and the large floor space has spacious room for many guests.

Service befits a fine dining establishment as well. Yum Cha Restaurant staff are observant and attentive, topping up drinks without request and making sure your dining experience goes well. They are polite and efficient, with food being prepared and served relatively quickly. They also accede to certain change requests. Very good.
Food at Yum Cha Restaurant revolves around either Dim Sum or Zi Char. Their Zi Char dishes look and taste great, but portions are quite small, and prices are high per dish, even for simple ones with low cost ingredients. Their set menus are slightly more value for money, but the price listed is nowhere near the ballpark amount you'll pay.
The Dim Sum at Yum Cha Restaurant is the star though, and the best time to dine at Yum Cha Restaurant is when their buffets are available.
The complementary Braised Peanuts were undercooked, and slightly hard. Would be better off if it were braised longer till soft. Also, the sauce is underwhelming.

The taste of the Fish Maw In Thick Seafood Soup was excellent. Thick and savoury with a pleasing yellow colour and a seafood / crustacean taste, the portion of ingredients within is decent.

The Stir Fried Scallop Suillus With Asparagus was slightly oily at the base, but the spice combined well with the fresh, crunchy, and large asparagus. The scallops were medium sized, plump, and perfectly cooked. Portion was just nice for 4 people.

I thought the Beancurd With Shimeji Mushrooms And Vegetables was the weakest dish here. Neither very tasty or spectacular. And the sauce tasted and looked similar to the prior soup course. The ingredients were fresh though.

Yum Cha is one of the many famous dim sum places in Singapore. But I felt that the standard dropped in the recent years. The har gao (prawn dumpling)'s skin fell apart though the filling was nice. The seafood fried beehoon here is super delicious! The thin rice noodles is very chewy and full of the nice fragrant from the sauce and ingredients cooked in it. Large prawns are used in it which are very fresh and crunchy. The scrambled eggs also added that extra fragrant and make the bee hoon taste really good too! Portion is considerquite alright and the price is abit towards the high side.

This is one my favourite cold dishes plate which I have ever tried during a wedding dinner. The dishes portion are quite generous and the diffferent individual items have their delicious taste as well. My personal favourite will be their smooth and chewy jelly fish which is very refreshing in taste and the spicy sauce used to marinate it make it evey taste more yummy and appetitzing as well. The stir fried scramble egg may look very simple but is equally delicious and not too salty as well.

Last Saturday my gf and I met up with with Maureen, Charlene and their partners for dinner at Yum Cha Garden Restaurant. I never knew that there is another Yum Cha restaurant at Serangoon Garden Country Club beside the Chinatown branch. Whats important, Yum Cha Garden Restaurant is open to the public.

We were here to try the Sake Tapino which comes in 2 sizes at $78 (for 2-4 pax) and $156 (for 6-8 pax). I thought the ingredients will be cooked in a pot of solely Sake Soup but I was wrong. Actually the Sake Tapino uses pork bone soup as it base and a bottle of Sake was poured into it.

We opt for the waitress to prepare the Sake Tapino for us. First serving was Kurobuta Pork in a bowl of strong Sake flavour soup. Second serving the Sake flavour was milder and we had tofu, prawn and cabbage. Lastly, a bowl of udon in soup to wrap up the Sake Tapino feast.

We actually ordered the 6 pax set menu which comes with the Signature Pomfret Tapino. The restaurant was kind enough for us to swap for the Sake Tapino. Beside the Sake Tapino, the menu came with Prawn and Beancurd Skin Pancake. It is basically prawn paste stuffed in beancurd skin and fried to a golden brown.

Next we have the Wine Sauce Chicken served in Hot Stone. This is the only dish we did not finish as the sauce was a bit salty. The chicken meat was also tough and dry.

Singaporean loves crab and so do I. It has been a while since I have the Black Pepper Crab. Miss the fragrant and punch from the crushed black pepper.

When I walked into the restaurant, I noticed a lot of people having the Homemade Tofu with Mushrooms and Vegetables. Yum Cha's homemade tofu is really smooth and silky. A best try dish.

Like a typical wedding dinner, the second last course was a noodle dish. We had Braised Eefu Noodle with mushroom and conpoy.

Actually we were all feeling a bit hot near the end of the dinner probably effect from the Sake soup. The chill and refreshing Mango Sago Pomelo dessert helped to cool down our body temperature.

When the perking duck dish came, I questioned where is the duck sauce. Then we waited awhile but still the service staff didn't bring any sauce to our table. Thus, we conclude maybe Yum Cha perking duck comes with no sauce. We all tucked in and after we finished it the auntie come with the sauce. Moreover, this dish can only order once.

Salted Egg Prawns

It does not look like Salted Egg Prawns right I will say more like onion and garlic prawns. Although I was a little disappointed but a bite with the prawn and a bite with the onion combination wasn't that bad and it is a new taste to me.
