It was already 9pm and we were searching for a place to have dinner. As we were in Joo Chiat so we decided to visit Yummy Claypot. The waitress was quick to clean up a table for us and we were promptly seated. I was flipping through the menu and the clay-pot dishes are not cheap. Being watchful of our spending, we decided to settle for their soup and their cheapest clay-pot rice.

The wait staff informed us that the clay-pot rice requires 20 minutes of preparation time and we are fine with it since we can enjoy the soup while waiting for our main course. Our pots of soup arrived within minutes after the order has been placed.

My female friend and I had their double boiled watercress soup while my bro ordered their ginseng soup. I must say at the chef is quite generous with the ingredients as I had quite a fair share of pork in my soup. Chinese style watercress soup can never go wrong (unless the chef do not wash the watercress properly which hardly happens) and I do enjoy my soup.

The clay-pot rice is kinda disappointing as the taste does not reflect the name of the restaurant. Yummy is certainly not the word to describe my chicken clay-pot rice. The portion is decent for its price but what makes the dish disappointing is that the flavor is one-dimensional and failed to tantalise my taste buds. Dark soy sauce, a few slices of Chinese dried sausage and pieces of chicken (that comes with bones and minimal meat) plus low quality rice. Hmmm… the standard is the same (or slightly lower) as those found in hawker centres/food courts and you certainly don’t have to travel all the way to this eatery in Joo Chiat.

Yummy Claypot does not have service charge so it is understandable that they do not provide water (or maybe you have to request for it). This is quite a forgettable dining experience and I don’t think I’ll ever return to this restaurant for their food. There are certainly better eateries in the area.

I was in an exploring spirit and decided to walk down Joo Chiat Road to look for dinner. Joo Chiat Road is rather a long stretch with residential and commercial conservation shophouses along both sides of the road. Eateries and pubs have also established business along the road recently. Yummy Claypot serves quite an extensive list of dishes on its menu. I noticed that a lot of patrons ordered their claypot rice, soups and crab porridge. Unfortunately it was rather late for dinner and the soups were sold out.

The Claypot Rice was quite special and good. It had diced Chye Sim added which gave the rice a crunchy texture that was very enjoyable with each mouthful. The claypot rice portion was for individual servicing at $6 each.

The Hua Diao Chicken was cooked and served in a pressure cooker. The server will release the pressure of the pressure cooker at the table and it was something new and interesting to me. The chicken cooked in Hua Diao was really nice and not too strong in alcohol.

OMG! This Crab and Prawn Porridge is super super tasty and delicious. I have never in my life eaten such awesome porridge!! The consistency of the porridge and the abundant ingredients really make this dish stand out from others. It is only sold in a big pot which must be shard among 4 -5 people. It costs about 49 dollars for a pot but it is totally worth it!! Super yummy! and the Vegetable plum juice sold in the restaurant is also really good! and healthy! Highly recommended!

Huai Shan Black Chicken Soup served in a small claypot ($6.50), which was also good wholesome stuff.

After a good 30 mins of waiting painstakingly at Table 1C, the supposed star of the night (Signature Claypot Chicken Rice $13.00 for 2 persons) descended on my table. It is one of the specialities of the shop. Served stirred with chicken and black sauce all mixed in. Chicken is tasty and tender, black sauce is fragrant and rice is well cook.

Unfortunately, this restaurant has 7% GST shown in the receipt.

All-in-all a relatively good experience with the food and the service.

Lately, i have been visitng Joo Chiat areas for tasty and budget dinners, which led me to trying out Yummy Claypot. Claypots are definitely my cup of tea, as i love the burnt bits of rice in the pot. One thing unique about their claypot would be that it is not oily at all! I do not feel greasy or oily after eating, the taste was good. However, after a couple of mouths, I started feeling very thirsty. I guess the dish was way too dry. I ordered another dish which was Spicy Short Beans. This dish

To get here, alight at Dakota MRT station. Take bus number 16 and alight 4 bus stop later which is about 10 minutes journey time.
