Pick the cocktails, wines, or any beverage of your choice from Zafferano's extensive bar. With a couple of friends, you can sip on it at their gorgeous outdoor terrace with cascading foliage. It is the perfect city getaway. Celebrate Italian Republic Day with June’s cocktail specials - Zafferano's bar team has concocted two specials to tickle your tastebuds. Choose between a refreshing Bellini or a mildly spicy Gingertini.

aragostella – arancia – aneto

Choose between two premium seafood starters - the marinated trout or baby lobster bisque. The Norwegian trout cubes of delightfully succulent and fresh quality, alongside red radish, pomegranate, quail eggs, caviar, grilled asparagus. The lobster bisque was savoury, wonderfully thick and generous with lobster meat, with a citrus touch of orange. Dip it with the bread to offset some of the saltiness to enjoy the bisque at its best.

manzo – sedano rapa – carciofi

A tough call to make between the homemade ‘cavatelli’, fresh seafood in white wine sauce and tomatoes - pasta made in-house, with perfect al-dente and qq texture that is impossible not to love it! The beef ‘tagliata’ with celery root, sautéed artichokes, and drizzled over with veal jus, on the other hand, is a juicy platter of grilled and carved beef that won over the entire table. I'd say, take both.

Dessert is undoubtedly the one that everyone looks forward to, and Zafferano does not disappoint at all! With a lovely caramel and chocolate dome with an incredibly creamy texture, passionfruit jelly and raspberry coulis is not only a visual delight but also appeals to the tastebuds. If you prefer a less heavy dessert, the freshly-made ice-cream and gelato will certainly be your sweet ending to this wonderful dinner.

wife & i joined a group of friends for a west cape howe wine dinner at zafferano on 19.8.2015.^^ we had 7pax this time. the last time i joined a wine dinner she organised at halia @ raffles hotel was in dec 2013. we had a larger group then.

i had not been to zafferano before. it’s located on level 43 at ocean financial centre & the terrace outside the restaurant had a good view over marina bay.

i saw the food menu & thought it was quite ok for the price of S$88++, even minus the wine, as i do not take much wine at all.

we started with a chardonay & some canapes. the tuna was best! dinner started with some focaccia. #1 first course was hokkaido scallop carpaccio. scallop was fresh, sweet, very good slightly gummy bite texture & nice artsy presentation.
#2 for me, the poached & pan-fried octopus was the best dish for the evening. octopus was very tender almost like a sous vide or low temperature braise preparation but just only poached according to the chef. for me it was very as good indeed – as good as that at monterosso miky in italy, & almost as good as that at alle darsene at lake como, the best i had. again presentation was elegant…was it more of the same? after the dinner though, one friend said his octopus was tough. odd! not sure why?

#3 3rd course was veal ravioli, veal reduction. it was a good pasta, great ravioli texture, maybe a bit beefy, not really my favourite.

the restaurant replaced it with a cheese pasta for a friend who doesn’t take beef. she said it was very good, and perhaps that would actually be a better choice than the veal ravioli.

#4 next black angus tenderloin tagliata, served with pan-fried foie gras. the dish sounded good. unfortunately for me & my friends, it was donwright poor! the foie gras was not creamy enough & did not come with some citrus matching palate.

& i don’t understand the beef. it is hard to damage a good beef, and this was black angus tenderloin. beef was hard, not tasty, not flavourful. tenderloin not much marbling but should at least be tender & sweet.

sorry to say, but i think my own tagliata di manzo is many times better than this, taste & texture wise, cannot match the presentation of course. did not have photo of the cod which the restaurant replaced for a friend who does not take beef. she said it was very good.

the chef came to talk to us.

dessert was ok, but not my favourite. overall, my wife & i had derived much lower satisfaction than we expected from reading the menu. S$88++ was ok with the canapes & wine. for the food, octopus & scallop were my best dishes, veal ravioli neutral, tagliata poor & dessert indifferent. i don’t know how much the wine dinner we had recently at da luca cost, but the food was superior to this, and i thought the wine this evening was also mediocre.

Early bird dinner special for 2 course at S$58++ and 3 course at S$68++. The last order for this special at 7.15 pm.

Italian crusty warm bread was served as starter for the evening with Zafferano’s very own blend of top quality Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Zafferano opens late into the night upto 3 am on weekends. Their resident DJ is on hand to transform the dinning experience into a late night lounge while watching and enjoying the glittering Marina Bay Sands skyline.

Literally we felt like we are on top of the world.

Great customer service, awesome ambience and delectable food.

Debuting Executive Chef Fabio Cucchelli last month, who brings with him more than two decades of culinary experience across Europe, along with a spanking new menu of traditional Italian signatures, contemporary Italian restaurant- Zafferano (Italian for Saffron) is set to impress with its emphasis on natural flavours as it pays tribute to the authentic origins of produce that come from both North and South Italy.

The first Insalata Zafferano $18 was a colorful affair brimming with nutritional and vitamin-rich fresh produce. Tossing up romaine hearts, Roma tomatoes, brioche croutons and finished with squirts of shallot cheese dressing, this was a charming piece of artwork which whetted our appetites effortlessly.

Pastas are always a highlight at any Italian establishment and Chef Fabio did not disappoint with his vegetarian option of Mezzelune con ricotta e spinaci $18 that had an elegant touch. These pasta crescents were snugly packed with a blend of ricotta cheese, spinach and sage butter and when eaten hot, it was perfecto!

The highlight of my evening was this Astice alla busara $86- a stunning Boston Lobster gratinated with crème fresche that created a dimension of body and richness to the sweet meat. And even though we were all stuffed after everything we ate, the raisin pilaf rice was simply irresistible with that homemade chili tomato sauce.

Fast becoming my Italian staple, this Risotto al nero di seppia $24 is no stranger with its characteristic jet-black appearance. No prizes for guessing but yes it is squid ink! Accentuated by the red wine reduction, I thoroughly enjoyed the saltiness and briny nature of the ristotto broth. Throw in a clash of red with baby calamari and chopped tomatoes, this was a clear winner.

The Cremoso al formaggio fresco $10 tops the charts with its pretty presentation and great attention to detail. Surprisingly light, the cheese crème with toffee filled our tummies with contentment and satisfaction without weighing us down.

If you love Nutella, then order this Nocciole di canelli $19 which is essentially Canneli hazelnuts done four ways- crumble, ice-cream, caramel and sauce. Definitely not an overload for the fanatics.

Story short, while the initial lure of Zafferano is its panoramic view of the Marina waterfront and welcoming alfresco terrace which offers wonderful respite after a long day of work alongside a cocktail or two, it is the food that ultimately charms us right till the end.
