This restaurant was featured in the Sunday Times not too long ago. So, since it was Mothers' Day, we decided to try out the Teochew Cuisine served in this restaurant. We arrived at the restaurant at about 7.30pm and it was packed and some groups of people were waiting outside. We waited for about 20 minutes before we got our table on the second floor of the restaurant which is air-conditioned. (: The whole restaurant was quite noisy and there are no private dining rooms. The head waitress was super busy but she did not ignore us, tending to our requests and helping us get our table asap. We ordered ala-carte dishes which included their braised duck, steamed promfet, crab porridge, egg tofu and two other vegetable dishes.
The braised duck was the first dish served, something like an appetizer. The duck was slice into thin slices and the sauce over it was flavourful. This is one of their specialities. Another specialty would be their steamed fish which was cooked with assam and preserved vegetable. The soup base for the fish was tasty and not too salty. I enjoyed the crab porridge the most! The crab was real fresh, with the meat still firm and the shell was very easy to be removed. There was quite a substantial amount of porridge together with a lot of other ingredients beside crab, like crab roe and some meat.
The prices of the various dishes are reasonable, considering the portion and the taste of the food. They have set menus too for different number of people.
It was a yummy and filling Mothers' Day dinner.
