I must say Fish & Co. pretty much maintains its standard as they all taste the same at any outlet. For the food recipe at least. At the Ion outlet, it's an ambience of passers-by come and go. Open concept, you get to people-watch others and people-watch you back with your fish n chips. Not much of a fantastic ambience. Located at the heart of Ion, it's definitely a convenient stop, thus the attraction of customers. So far my boyfriend and I have had dinner there once and I'd say it was an okay as a regular fish n chips meal except that the service was horrible.

This is not to say horrible in the context of staff slamming food into your face or spilling water all over your table deliberately. The staff carried nice character in nature but they were either clumsy, slow or uncertain about too many things. Two incidents I could recall was:

1. We asked for chili sauce, both the regular type and chilli dip(the ones served at chicken rice stalls). Upon request, the male staff politely nodded and returned with them placing them on our tables. As the former is in a solid-liquid state, it sat fine. However with the chilli dip being in a pure liquid state, it definitely needed more effort to have it placed securely on the table and somehow it slipped through the staff's butter fingers, spilling a quarter of the liquid over. He immediately apologized and at the same blushing a little, said sorry another couple of times with hand signals and walked off......... and not come back with a table cloth to correct an unintended mistake but instead, he just stood at the a corner of the restaurant waiting around, slightly glancing at us. The thought just came coming back to me, "So what's the meaning of this?". It was just the impression made but not much of an issue so we wiped it off with tissue ourselves.

2. My boyfriend and I ordered a New York Fish & Chips of regular portion and a Prawns Fettuccini with Chilli Cream under the Fingerlings section(small serving). Both orders came at the same time, which was great, I like restaurants that serve couple's orders together. The Prawns Fettuccini's portion came relatively normal and it occurred at the back of our minds whether it was really Fingerlings or not so we tried to get a staff's attention but not to blame as it was a busy evening, they were all busy. It was our first time having their pasta as well as getting something from the Fingerlings so we weren't certain how small is small. Being hungry, we had to just start eating it. Only to confirm it indeed wasn't a Fingerlings after all when the bill came. It was a mistake made by the waiter who took our orders who covered he wasn't the cause. Thankfully, I must praise that manager was understanding enough as we spoke and with customer service, told the staff to charge the tab as what we our orders were meant to be.

Going back to the food: On an unbiased point of view, the Prawns Fettuccini with Chilli Cream was uniquely creamy good, the cream did go well with the chilli and the pasta was cooked just nice. Chewy, not too mushy and not too hard. They were generous with the prawns too, texture was crunchy and sweet tasting. Living up to its name, Fish & Co. is really good with their seafood. The New York Fish & Chips was good as usual, like any of the other fish n chips too. I suppose the service varies at different outlets but I know I wouldn't want to go back to the Ion's one again.
