I happened to chance upon Butterscotch on Instagram and decided to check it out with Wendy because we had been craving for churros for the longest time. Butterscotch is located at Bukit Merah Central which is out of the way for us. We were adamant on wanting to satisfy our cravings and so we made a trip here to try out their other desserts at the same time.We were there on Wednesday at around 6.30pm and were one of the first few patrons for the evening. We were there on Wednesday at around 6.30pm and were one of the first few patrons for the evening. It is a very small and cozy cafe with no pretentious aura. Good news for Muslims out there, it is a halal cafe! We had the Brioche French Toast ($14). 3 mini slices of french toast were placed neatly on a wooden board, topped with turkey bacon, half a caramelized banana with maple syrup at the bottom. Portion was a tad small for its price. The caramelized bananas were very soft and I wished that the bread was fluffier. It tasted decent enough but I will not order this again. Churros $11
Price was on the high side for this too. Surprisingly, we found it hard to finish it comfortably as churros are sugary by nature and eating too much of it makes us feel uncomfortable. The churros had a harder texture than the usual ones that I had eaten. They were loaded with cinnamon fillings and the cinnamon taste was very distinct. The (milk) chocolate dip was quite little and it was already sweet on its own. The taste of the chocolate was covered by the sweetness of the churros and we could not put more as we had to save the chocolate sauce for the other churros that were not eaten yet. It would be great if dark chocolate dip is used so that the overall sweetness would be reduced a little by the bitterness of the dark chocolate. Truffle fries $9
The truffle fries were too salty and the truffles were not (completely) evenly spread. The taste was good where the truffle taste was distinct.
They have more desserts than mains on their menu and there was only 1 type of cake available at their cake counter on that day. I reckon they specialize in desserts instead of mains so if you are looking for a place in the quiet neighbourhood to chill and enjoy your desserts, check out Butterscotch.
