For our gathering of around 8 people, we tried going earlier (first one arrived at 6.30 pm) since fish & co. does not accept reservations after 6 pm. Well, luckily we had the table early because the place was filled up by 7 pm. Since we were here for a birthday celebration, we thought of signing up for their privilege card ($50) as on their promotional flyer, you can get $80 fish points available immediately to offset the bill which seemed like a great deal. Plus, there's an offer for the birthd
Staff was short on that day (guess we should have seen it coming, there's a sign outside the restaurant indicating immediate vacancies for staff) and it was really hard to get any attention from the wait staff (who seemed quite flustered and new at their job). When we requested for a candle to be put onto our cake slices, we were a bit flabbergasted that they did not light the candle...we had to spend quite a while trying to get the staff's attention again.....
Well, to give her the benefit of the doubt, she thought we wanted the manager and her to sing the birthday song and she will light the candle then. Anyway, we declined her kind offer and we sang our birthday song ourselves discreetly (we are kinda too old for over-the-top birthday songs)
Ok, enough griping over the service and let's focus on the food.
The classic fish and chips is still the best. Standard has remained all through these years. Can't really go wrong with their signature dish. - Classic fish and chips
However, standard for the seafood platter seemed to have dropped. The prawns and mussels were quite fresh and good but the rice beneath was too hard. It was made more palatable only if we ate it with the butter sauce that came with the mussels. The grilled calamari did not taste as nice as I recalled...the fish was also just ordinary, nothing special. - Seafood platter for 2
The chocolate layer mousse cake looked good but was not actually nice at all. Kind of a let-down for a chocolate cake. Think the caramel taste in it overpowers the chocolate. - Chocolate layer mousse
The hot fudge chocolate cake fared better. The cake was moist, which went well with the hot fudge and vanilla ice cream. - Hot fudge chocolate cake
Well, I will not say that I will not come back again, but next time I'll just stick with their classic fish & chips.
