Breakthrough Café is located directly opposite the Subordinate Courts. Quite an ironic location, considering that its service crew are mostly (if not all) ex-offenders. In spite of their background (and tattooed arms), this is a place where you will be received with one of the best service ever , in Singapore - RARE!!! (for a non-high end café). From point of receipt at its entrance, to ushering you to your seats, to recommending favourites and taking orders, to quick serving your food, to pr
The internal décor (and even the tables) displays Christian messages all around. Probably this is what keeps the crew going at peak performance, with visual reminders. My all-time favourite food is the Curry Chicken with Rice. It was served in claypot, sufficiently thick and not too spicy. There are 4 pieces of chicken - drumlets & wings, along with 3 big pieces of potatoes - generous!. The chicken was soft and detaches from the bones easily. I like the potatoes very much - a little raw with a crunchy texture, instead of overly boiled with sandy texture. By the way, I've experienced twice where this dish was sold out during lunch! Now you can infer its popularity!
So, Breakthrough Café is like a café founded for charitable purpose and if you think it's going to cost above-average prices (with hidden cost going into the Yellow Ribbon Project maybe), the Curry Chicken cost me $6 only. All in all, with fruit juice (and I'm not sure if there's a service charge), I paid about $10. Totally worth it!
With the crew providing top-notch, non-intruding warmth service, the place is A/C and serves good food at low prices, is Breakthrough Café a gem or what? Haha! If any further improvement can be done, they might wish to consider having a daily special menu to convert their existing customers to "daily customers". I'd be one when they do so!
