My aunt introduced me the white bee hoon roughly 5 years back. I instantly fell in love with it. However, I felt the standard dropped as time went by. I've frequented the place less and longed for the standard to return. Monday, I found myself back at this coffee shop stall, courtesy of Open Rice for a food tasting session. Perhaps, they'll do it better this time round as they know we're reviewing the food. True enough, it was as good as I remembered.White Bee HoonCooked in broth like the fried
Cooked in broth like the fried Hokkien noodle, the bee hoon absorbs its delightful and flavourful seafood taste. It's so good that you'll be slurping off the bee hoon with the broth in no time. This is the famous dish that draws crowds to this place. You probably can't find this anywhere else. Yummy! The only thing that'll spoil this is the stall owners themselves, lowering their standard, probably to cut cost. Let's hope they'll keep up the standard outside the review session.
Fried Chicken Wings
When we were served the chicken wings, the aroma was so nice and strong that I was resisting my urge to grab them before the pictures were taken by fellow reviewers. I pounced on it on the first chance with my hands, in the process, destroyed my image in front of the others. However, I was a little disappointed. The taste wasn't as good as the fragrance gave off. Cooked with finely stripped gingers that adds a little twist to the taste, it's just slightly above average due to its dryness.
Calamari (Fried Sotong)
It was crispy and nice on the outside. Can't really taste the sotong inside though. Overall, it's still very nice. Be sure to eat it while it's hot.
Kang Kong, Omelette with prawns
They're nicely done. One you will expect from a typical Zi Char stall.
Conclusion
I will continue to frequent this place if they keep up with the standard of the white Bee Hoon. If you are coming from Sembawang MRT, do consider taking the free shuttle service to Sembawang Shopping Centre. This place is just opposite. Avoid coming here during peak hours. The queue can be very long.
