No doubt Liang Seah Street is a very popular place well known for the numerous dessert stores. Over the past few years, there are so many such stores springing up along the street of shop houses filled with various restaurants and eateries. Recently, more new dessert stores are joining in the war and diners have a hard time deciding on which store to patronize. Dessert First is a little cafe along the row of shophouses and the simple setting within the cafe gives it feel a very rustic feel, like dining by the roadside of Taiwan with the small tables and chairs. I love pumpkin and went for something healthier on the menu, the Homemade Pumpkin Skin Tang Yuan ($3.50). There are 4 glutinous rice balls and they are served in the floral osmanthus soup that is lightly sweet in taste. The decadence of the chocolate sauce in the rice ball is sure to get you addicted to it. It’s a very popular choice among the younger crowd to go for the chocolate ones as they enjoy the sensation of the warm chocolate in that springy bite size rice ball. I was still feeling hungry as I had Dessert First before dinner so I ordered their recommended delicious homemade waffles to satisfy my hunger pangs. I'm very sure this Waffle+Ice Cream+Durian Topping (Whole) ($8.50) is the most popular waffle over here as I seen many others having it too and no doubt it have won over countless stomachs including mine.
Even though the crowd was streaming in and filling up the cafe on a weekend dinner, I was impress by their quick service as orders were taken with a slip and payment done at the cashier before the desserts are served by their friendly staffs within minutes. Overall, they have an extensive menu with drinks, beancurd and all-time favourites like Mango Sago and Peanut Paste.
