As it’s very rare that we’re in the vicinity, we headed to The Coastal Settlement for dinner. You can choose to take bus 29 from Tampines Interchange (probably a 20-30mins bus journey), else if there’s more people, you might want to consider sharing a cab. We took a cab at around 8 plus at night, it costs $12 with surcharge. My friend reached at around 8.30pm and the person said that he must wait 1h for seats. My friend reached at around 8.30pm and the person said that he must wait 1h for seats. But he still managed to get outdoor seats about 15 mins later. It was nearly 9pm by the time we reached, the place was very far off from the more happening part of Changi and it’s quite isolated. I would say the most optimum time to come would be early evening, around 7pm. We were greeted by the lovely and well lighted walkway that made us feel that we were in another country. It has an ambience and atmosphere that felt really good! Anyway outside dining is not too bad, but maybe there’s the risk of getting bitten by mosquitoes plus there’s no lighting at all at our side, only 1 candle which was not of much help. We were told that our mains might take around 1 hour (or lesser) to be ready, and sides would be faster. We ordered one side, Portobello Fries ($15) which was fried mushrooms. Think french fries but inside are big, fat and juicy mushrooms. The first bite left a great impression on me. Unfortunately, it left quite a rich aftertaste in my mouth and I felt sick after eating 3 mouthfuls. After which, our 4 mains came together at one go after 15 - 20 mins after the side dish. The crowd seems to have dispersed a little at that time. Mushroom Fettucine ($21), another mushroom dish after our portobello fries. It was just so-so, mushrooms with fettucine. If you haven’t tried the portobello fries, this would be a good change. It has a similar taste with portobello mushrooms. Rosti Sausage ($16) was a good change from our truffle dishes and I would say this is one of the better dishes I’ve eaten in the whole night because it’s a really good change from all the other mushroom side and main. Half and Half pizza ($25) was recommended by the staff. The half and half combinations was beef and the other was non beef, for the non-beef eaters. The non-beef side consists of salad with bacon and ham but the ham was kind of salty. The beef side consists of mushrooms (again) with beef which tasted slightly sweet. So we had a sweet and salty combination. Cod n Chips ($26) is the normal kind of fish and chips, the fish used isn’t dory unlike most, they used cod fish. The fries were rectangular in shape! Rather thick but I didn’t really like the fries as well because we left them for too long and it became soggy. But the sauce that came with it was nice! As for the fried cod fish, I would have prefer dory fish. Verdict: A tad pricey, we paid $121 in total and we didn’t order any drinks. Food wasn’t spectacular but the ambience made up for it. Better to get an indoor seat or somewhere nearer to the indoor area. We were seated at the extreme end (near the playground) and there wasn’t much light. We love the swings that was placed outside as you don’t see it in Singapore often.
