We needed a place to rest our feet after pattering around Orchard area for the earlier part of the evening. Cedele @ Wheelock came to our mind, despite the many options surrounding us - as we were looking for a cafe with relatively decent cakes and hopefully, a quieter location whereby we could blather in ease.Upon arrival, we were greeted & seated relatively quickly by the window. The cafe ambience was cosy, as usual. But there's an unfortunate stench of stale fried food overhanging the cafe
Upon arrival, we were greeted & seated relatively quickly by the window. The cafe ambience was cosy, as usual. But there's an unfortunate stench of stale fried food overhanging the cafe, thus making the visit less welcoming.
Between us, we ordered a BLT Avocado Supreme Sandwich $11.80, a slice of Carrot Walnut Cake $6, a Classic Brownie Fudge Sundae $7.90. Drinks: Cappuccino $5.50, Egyptian Mint Tea $5.50, Wolfberry Longan Tea $5.50.
Carrot Walnut was served with a candle (lighter provided too.. ) upon request, as it was Otter's birthday.
Desserts aside, the drinks were pretty decent. I enjoyed the Egyptian peppermint tea for its refreshing taste. However, by the 2nd pot of hot water added, the fragrance had greatly disappeared.. resulting in just a pot of very diluted peppermint water. Wolfberry Longan Tea was an interesting bland of flavours. You could smell the sweetness of red dates / longans when the tea was poured. Fortunately, it didn't taste as sweet as it smelt. Thus you could slowly but surely finished a whole pot of this comforting hot drink all by yourself. (However, I preferred the relatively similar, but sweeter / more "potent" Chinese version of longan-red dates tea.)
Still, Mr Jojo aside, the rest of the staff were all very friendly and helpful. 2 thumbs up to them!
We could only hope that Mr Jojo is not on duty during our next visit to Cedele @ Wheelock...
