The shop is tiny, there are limited seats available in the shop and there is always a queue trailing from the entrance, clogging up the corridor of Far East plaza, but all these factors pale in contrast when one tastes the quality of food served in the shop.I had been to Japan and tried the sashimi there before, and after that trip I had always lamented about the quality disparity between that of the local Japanese cuisine and those found in Japan itself. I had been to Japan and tried the sashimi there before, and after that trip I had always lamented about the quality disparity between that of the local Japanese cuisine and those found in Japan itself. Hence, before I visited the restaurant, I was quite skeptical about how good the food would get.
I had a codfish set while my boyfriend ordered a sashimi assortment set. We were given this little dish as appetizers before the main course was served. I couldn't really make out what exactly is in the appetizer, but it was really tasty when served hot.
The codfish set I had was really good. The skin was a little charred, but after peeling off the skin, the codfish flesh just melted in my mouth. The salmon sashimi in my boyfriend's set was tasty as well.
One tiny aspect that I think they can improve on is the thickness of the maguro (tuna) sashimi. When we visited that day, the sashimi was near 2cm thick. Since maguro sashimi is a little tougher than other kinds of sashimi, I'd usually prefer the thickness to be around half of that, somewhere comparable to the thickness of the tongue. In this way, the maguro won't be too tough to chew on.
Service at this restaurant is minimal. When we were sipping on our drinks and chatting, we were advised to settle our bills and leave as soon as possible as there was a queue waiting outside. Nevertheless, the quality of the food still left us wanting for more.
