Sum Kee is located in a one-storey building of its own within the Yeo's building compound. Hence the restaurant name you see outside the building states it as Sum Kee restaurant & beer garden. The place is popular with families and it's best that you call to book a table beforehand, as it gets full during weekends. There is both indoor air-conditioned and alfresco dining available. It's also good that they have their own parking compound for at least 20 cars - and the best part, parking's free!

The menu is available at their website, http://www.sumkee.com.sg for you to check out.

There's a special daily menu featuring items not on their regular menu. It usually offers new dishes that the chef has come out with for customers to try out.

- Mary's curry lamb

The Mary's curry lamb looked interesting so we ordered one to try. I wonder if they got the inspiration for the name from the nursery rhyme "Mary had a little lamb"? LOL. Interesting name aside, the dish itself was really good. I loved the thick, spicy curry which was fragrant and tasty. It went well with the tender pieces of mutton within. There were pieces of potato and bean curd skin added to the dish too. Couldn't resist drizzling the curry all over my rice...yummy

- Coffee pork ribs

The coffee pork ribs were quite tender as well, and perfumed with hints of coffee within the savoury sauce. A recommended dish as well.

- Ultraman chicken

Ah, another creative-sounding moniker for the ultraman chicken dish. The name is probably derived from the chinese name of ultraman (salted-egg superman for a direct translation). The fried chicken pieces are draped with a sauce made from salted egg, which smells and tastes really good. A definite must-try if you are a fan of salted egg! It's one of their signature dishes.

- Bai Ling Ku with spinach

A generous amount of sliced bai ling ku mushrooms are placed over a bed of poached spinach immersed in a nice stock-based gravy. The taste is almost as good as the ones you get served in restaurants for Chinese wedding dinners.

- Bean sprouts with salted fish

Do not look down on the humble dish of bean sprouts with salted fish. The version here is one of the best I've had so far. The bean sprouts are fresh, thick and juicy and cooked just well enough with plenty of salted fish added in for good measure.

- Golden nugget Tofu

The golden nugget tofu dish is quite good too. The tofu is silky soft and the gravy topping it together with the bits of minced pork gives a nice, homely taste.

- The receipt

Together with a pot of tea, the bill came up to $82 for our group of six, which is rather affordable (no service charge and gst).
