I have previously gone all the way to Malacca just to eat their chicken rice balls, so when I heard that it is also available in Singapore, I had to give it a try.While in Malacca, I was told that people first eat rice balls instead of rice served in bowls, due to convenience and to keep the rice warm. While in Malacca, I was told that people first eat rice balls instead of rice served in bowls, due to convenience and to keep the rice warm. Malaysians make their rice balls very sticky and compact, and I love it because I feel it has some effect in concentrating more flavours together in a smaller bite. The size of their rice balls are also approximately that of a fish ball, with its surfaces smooth.
So now let's look at Singapore's version of Chicken Rice Balls:
Chicken Rice BallsTastes good. However I find the size of the rice balls too big, and the rice is not compact enough. It is sticking out in all directions (surface not smooth like that of a fishball), and when I picked it up, the rice ball came lose. I ended up "dismantling" and eating rice ball like a normal bowl of chicken rice, which defects the experience and purchase of eating rice ball.
ChickenTastes good. The meat is rather juicy and tender.
Although this stall serves relatively good chicken rice, my experience here was just like eating the normal kind of chicken rice rather than going for their selling point of the chicken rice ball.
