The latest addition to the list of eating establishments at Wheelock Place, NamNam Noodle Bar brings a whole new dining experience to the mix. The latest addition to the list of eating establishments at Wheelock Place, NamNam Noodle Bar brings a whole new dining experience to the mix. The restaurant is as trendy as it gets for a Vietnamese eatery, with glitzy neon lighting and bar top seating to boot, but the menu of traditional Vietnamese staples and the antiquated dishware would just reel you back to the Vietnam of old.

Diners are offered 3 main categories of mains:
1. Banh Mi (pronounced Bun-mee) - Vietnamese take on Subway. Toasted baguettes stuffed chock full with different meats, complemented by an array of spices, herbs and sauces.

I ordered the Saigon Street Favourite Value Lunch Set, which was total value for money at $9.90 with a main order of a Pho Beef Steak Slices + fresh southern rolls + 1 classic iced coffee with condensed milk. Did I mentioned that the price already included GST and that no service charge applies?

My side dish of southern rolls was served first. The star of the dish was the fresh, succulent prawn, wrapped in Vietnamese rice paper together with sliced egg and fresh herbs. While I couldn't really discern the composition of the sauce the rolls were served with, the sweet, savoury mix really added to the flavour profile, complementing the roll perfectly.

The pho was served piping hot and was an absolute comfort within the air-conditioned confines of Wheelock during the rain. Albeit slightly tough, the beef steak slices went great with the rich broth and rice noodles. My only complaint would just be the excessive use of spring onions with the dish.

We finished the meal with traditional Vietnamese coffee, finely ground dark roast, mixed with sweetened condense milk.

Verdict: A quirky dining option where I am looking forward to trying my first 'Vietnamese Subway' on my next visit.
