Ever since my grandmother stopped cooking reunion dinners at home, we have been going to zi char eateries for our annual reunion dinners. This year, we decided to try out 2 Chefs Eating Place since we've heard some pretty good comments about the food there. It had also won the Makansutra 2009 award. We opted for the 10-course reunion dinner package. As expected, the first dish to arrive at a traditional reunion dinner was the Yu Sheng. I'm not a big fan of Yu Sheng as I don't really like the sli
As expected, the first dish to arrive at a traditional reunion dinner was the Yu Sheng. I'm not a big fan of Yu Sheng as I don't really like the slight sour taste that it has. However, this one was surprisingly ok. Portion was alright, just nice for about 10 people. As usual, reunion dinners also have shark's fin soup and ours was no different. This dish tasted normal, like other shark's fin soup. Not memorable. This is their signature dish, Butter Ribs. This is the most popular dish at this eatery. The ribs were sprinkled with what looked like cheese flakes but turned out to be milk powder instead. Curry leaves were also added as toppings. I found this dish so-so and not deserving of the fantastic comments it had received on the net. The meat was tough and I am not sure what the milk powder did to enhance the taste of the ribs. Perhaps the chef's standards have dropped after opening another branch. Next, we had the Spinach with Shiitake Mushrooms and Tofu. Nothing much to rave about here-- Just steamed spinach cooked in oyster gravy and some egg tofu.
