I spent 3 years living in the Ghim Moh area, and this is where I would always take visitors to try the famous Singapore chili crab. It's more of an authentic Singapore vibe than going to Newton, and the prices are pretty reasonable. I spent 3 years living in the Ghim Moh area, and this is where I would always take visitors to try the famous Singapore chili crab. It's more of an authentic Singapore vibe than going to Newton, and the prices are pretty reasonable. Plus the restaurant is always busy, so it must be good, right?

Anyway, Master Crab is your average cze char place - noisy, plastic tables and chairs, completely indifferent service. That said, the crab is always satisfying and the chili sauce has a rich, satisfying flavor. You can even see them in their tanks. The walls are also lined with the shells of eaten crabs and some have messages on them.

The other dishes I've tried were just average though...

That said, if you stick to a chili crab, some fried rice, and a veggie dish like kailan with garlic it's a pretty good meal for around $50.

Just don't have high expectations of the setting or the service. The waitress will bring you the menu, take your order, and bring the food. If you want another drink or to get the bill you're going to have to wave to get their attention.
