One would not have been to Tim Ho Wan if they had not tried their Baked Bun with BBQ Pork ($4.50). While it was on par with the ones served at Plaza Singapura taste-wise, we were slightly disappointed with the amount of filling inside. There was less BBQ Pork packed in it, making the inside feel rather airy.

Steamed Egg Cake ($3.80) was one of my favourites during the past visit with its fluffiness and flavour. The one at Westgate lacked to satisfy me from previous expectations by substituting the perfect fluffiness with a bit of stickiness, let down with a lighter flavour. The colour of the cake at Westgate was also lighter than the one at Plaza Singapura, which probably could be the reason behind the discrepancy in flavour. I am not certain but it also seemed to have shrunk in size somehow?

During the previous visit at Plaza Singapura we found the Prawn Dumpling ($5.50) a rather nice dish but lacking the cut that differentiates it from other dim sum places. We thought the Westgate outlet executed the dish way better; the prawns were not only fresh, they were more tender and chewier. The skin was also more bouncier which makes it a joy in the mouth. Would have ordered a second serving if we had the space to.

Pork Dumpling with Shrimp ($5.00) was rather similar by being great but having no differentiating factor. Again we thought the Westgate outlet fared better. It felt less stiff and more tender due to having less pork to prawn.

One of the new dishes we had not have the chance to try was the Wasabi Salad Prawn Dumpling ($5.00). As a fried dish, it fared well with its crispy batter, with the freshness and tenderness of the prawns being a plus. The addition of roe on the dumplings also adds a dimension of texture by creating a chew. The Wasabi Mayo however came in miserable amounts that was hard to taste. Personally we also felt that they should have put a higher ratio of wasabi to mayonnaise to increase the intensity of the wasabi.

We missed the Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus Cake ($3.50) the previous time so we made it a point to order it at Westgate. It was definitely cooling and soothing, carrying a light refreshing flavour. Definitely a good way to end off the meal especially after a few servings of fried items.

We left the Westgate outlet slightly confused; we were quite glad that most of the items were better than the Plaza Singapura outlet, but it is the Four Heavenly Kings that did not seem to deliver the high standards that were set in the early days. Overall though we were still rather satisfied with the food, and looking forward to the next visit regardless of which outlet it would be.
