My family and I visited Baystreet21 for dinner and ordered 4 set meals - chicken chop, ribeye steak + salmon, nasi bojari and some other asian dish (sorry don't remember the name). The food was really horrible - especially when we spent an average of more than $20 per person. The soup was obviously canned soup - while I feel so, I will still give them the benefit of doubt. For the appetizer, they gave us 4 half-slices of bread. For the appetizer, they gave us 4 half-slices of bread. The bread was cold and hard. It was obvious that the bread was left out in the open for very long and they didn't heat it up.
The main dishes were very disappointing. The chicken chop looked very dubious. The meat had a greyish tinge and smelled like chicken skin. I am not sure why but my guess is that the meat was not fresh.
The ribeye steak was so hard and tasteless, I couldn't bring myself to eat it. But I still tried it because it was so expensive. The salmon was really badly cooked. My first time eating salmon that is so overcooked that the entire piece of salmon shrivelled up. The sides were very pathetic looking as well (colour wise, all the vegetables looked like they weren't fresh).
Something weird I noted was that the food was very hot even on the inside (for quite long) although the plate was cold. I checked with a friend who works at another restaurant and he said that may be because the food was microwaved entirely. I cannot be sure about that but if I am paying so much for microwaved food, I might as well cook it myself.
No comments on the nasi bojari because it was still ok.
When we asked for our dessert to be served (was earlier told by the waiter that it would be taohuay), they served us a slice of watermelon instead. We questioned them and they said that they ran out of tauhuay and their desserts are "all first come first serve". In the end, the manager (don't know if he is because he was just wearing some plain t-shirt and pants) offered to change it to ice-cream for us. We accepted. Thought it would be at least a scoop of ice-cream in a bowl but... we were thrusted with this.
This small cup of cheap chocolate ice-cream that I can get for 50cents which I find quite insulting and not value for money. Overall, it was very bad service and very bad food. Visit at your own risk.
