Affordable, authentic udon is readily available here at Tsuru-koshi in Takashimaya B2. Each bowl of udon will set you back by about $10. Pictured on top is the Astu Tantan udon, like a Japanese dry udon version of tan tan mian. (How do they do those nice semi boiled runny eggs?)
