Weekday brunch treats!
Swensen's
2013-07-29
I love Swensen's weekday lunch treat! Basically for every main course you have ordered, you are entitled to a free side/drink/dessert. Haha how awesome can that be! It's damn worth it!! I went together with a friend and we decided to get a free side and a free dessert for our 2 main courses. For our main courses, I ordered crayfish pasta while my friend ordered curry chicken baked rice. As for the side, we ordered spice n chic and for our dessert, we ordered banana split!!! Firstly, for the crayfish pasta, the spaghetti with tomato sauce tasted average while the crayfish meat was quite fresh! The amount of meat in the crayfish was also quite generous. As for the curry chicken baked rice, it was not super nice as compared to my all time favourite curry zazzle baked rice in Pizza Hut. I do not recommend this as the curry sauce they used wasn't very tasty. As for the spice n chic, we love it as tender thigh meats were seasoned with spices and fried! It was crispy and burst with spices flavour! Shiok! And lastly, my favourite would have to be the banana split! It's my favourite ice cream here! I like that there was 3 different flavored ice cream (chocolate, vanilla & strawberry) topped with peanut chips, whipped cream, one slice of banana and chocolate syrup! Yum yum! I really like the combination of this dessert! Plus, their ice cream are so chewy and yummy! Definitely a must-try in Swensen's Overall, it was an average experience dining here and I guessed I would only come back here again for their desserts and sides but not their main courses!…Read More

HK food!!
Central Hong Kong Café
2013-07-29
Saw this restaurant at B1 of Star Vista and found that the design of this restaurant was very cool and old school! hahaha so me and my friend decided to dine here We weren't very hungry that day and so we decided to just order a main course and a few sides to share. For our main course, we ordered chicken chop cheese baked rice which was quite nice! The chicken chop was tender and well marinated and the cheese baked rice was fragrant!! Only sad thing was that the serving was really small hahah i think it wouldn't be enough to fill a normal person's stomach! Anw we also ordered a sandwich with luncheon meat and egg which was very nice but once again i felt that the serving was very small. Lastly, we also ordered a set of swiss wings to share. It was basically soy sauce braised chicken wings i think? hahaha but i think the sauce they used to marinate their wings was home-made one cause it tasted abit special and different from the typical soy sauce. Anw the wings was well marinated and was quite tasty!! Worth a try We also ordered their hot milk tea and look at the cup they used!! So old school looking Overall, I think the food here was quite nice but i really think they should increase their serving of food since their prices weren't really cheap for that amount of food they served (it's like other typical HK cafe). …Read More

Eggs Benedict!! :)
Hatched
2013-07-27
Have always wanted to try the poached egg served in hatched and finally I had the chance when i had a gathering with 2 of my friends!I really really like the layout and design of the restaurant! So cosy and warm! Hahaha anyway the three of us ordered 3 of their poached eggs dishes, Sir Benedict, Smoked Royale and Burly Bendedict Oh! And we can actually choose either 1 or 2 poached eggs for our dishes and all the 3 of us opted for 2 poached eggs (hehe typical greedy us). I had the Sir Benedict where my muffins were topped up with smoked ham, bacon streaks and of course poached egg. Frankly speaking, i find that their poached eggs tasted normal. Not super nice but not too bad either. haha so my stand for their poached eggs would have to be on the fence. However, i like the muffins, smoked ham and mashed potato They were all very tasty! haha. I also tried the sauteed potatos from my friend's Burly Benedict and it is very nice!! And for our dessert, we ordered french toast fingers to share! hahaha and it tasted average to me. Overall, I enjoyed dining here even though poached eggs aren't my type of food but i guess it's okay to try out new food once in awhile. In addition, I really like the ambience here Will definitely come here again to try out their other courses which looked good on the menu. Price wise, their prices aren't on the cheap side (Eggs Benedict served with 2 poached eggs cost $19!!) But i guess it's okay to indulge once in awhile …Read More

Chicken wings!! Slurps!
Ikea Cafe
2013-07-27
OH YAY! I'm finally back for my lovely chicken wings <3<3 hahah i really love Ikea's chicken wings!! Highly recommend this to everyone who goes to Ikea cafe to dine! I like the marination used for their wings and the batter they used to fry the wings such that it become so crispy The skin of the chicken wing is so crispy and fragrant that I can never have enough of their wings each time I come here to dine. Another plus point is that the meat of the wings also have the taste of the marination and it's so juicy and tender unlike some other fried chicken wings where the meat inside the fried skin has no taste Hahaha anyway enough of the wings, I also ordered their salmon with potato! The serving is generous and the salmon goes very well with their homemade sauce. I also like that the salmon was fresh and it seems very healthy (i think they boiled the salmon?) As for dessert, I ordered their chocolate mousse which is awesome!! It tasted like chocolate ice cream to me but it's quite sweet and I felt sinful and guilty after finishing one cup of it. Haha for people who are scared of getting fat, you might want to just share this with your friends or something! Price wise, it's very affordable! I think the salmon cost $6-$7plus and the chicken wings are like 1 for $1+ Anyway one important thing to note is that the cafe will be super crowded during lunch hours so I advise people who hate to wait, to go either before or after lunch hours This will definitely improve your dining experience as you won't get stressed by people who are looking for seats and rush your meal hastily …Read More

Nasi lemakkkk!!
TOAST BOX
2013-07-27
Decided to try the food (not the bread) that was served at Toast Box!! I ordered their nasi lemak while my friend ordered their mee rebus! We also ordered a Bandung with pearl to share.hahaha their nasi lemak was really not bad (was quite skeptical about it when ordering) but i have to say that the price is much more expensive than those nasi lemak from ananas cafe and hawker centres. Anw their nasi lemak comes with fried chicken wing and an egg and i think it cost around $4 plus?!! Taste wise, the rice was quite fragrant (full of coconut milk taste which i like) and the chicken wing is quite crispy too! Their sambal chilli also tasted not too bad, sweet and spicy at the same time (comparable to those from ananas cafe) The standard was definitely better than what I have expected.I also tried my friend's mee rubus which was quite tasty also! Again, the price of the mee rubus was also higher than those found in the hawker centres. The servings of these 2 dishes were moderate, just nice to fill our stomachs. All in all, I think this meal tasted not too bad but I guessed we can find these food with the same/better standard at cheaper prices (hawker centres) I think we might not come here again unless the weather is too hot to eat at the hawker centres or we just want to eat in comfort! …Read More

Korean fried chicken!!!
BBQ Chicken
2013-07-27
This is one of the restaurants that I have always wanted to try as it seems very unique. I didn't actually knew that it was a Korean restaurant, until I saw their menu! Another indication was that their TV was constantly playing Korean MVs Which I like a lot as it made my dining experience more enjoyable. Anyway I think their signature dish was probably their fried chicken as they emphasized that they used pure olive oil to fry all their chicken and all their chickens are 100% fresh. Not sure if it was true but I decided to give them the benefit of doubt since their fried chicken wings (they called it BB wings) did taste fresh indeed. It was also crispy and juicy! I like their marination for the wings as it made them very tasty. We also ordered a cheese fondue pizza and a mushroom soup to share. The cheese fondue pizza was average and nothing too special about it. The mushroom soup was normal and I think the serving was too small!!! Overall, the meal was quite filling for 2 of us and we did enjoyed dining here while watching the MVs The restaurant was also quite spacious and not very crowded so we had quite a peaceful dinner here Price wise, the pizza costs $14 while the chicken wings cost $9. Their prices are quite standard like all other typical restaurants. Think i might come here again for their fried chicken and maybe try some other new things on the menu which looked kinda yummy. …Read More

Tom yum seafood ramen!
Ajisen Ramen
2013-07-26
I remember ajisen ramen was the first ever ramen restaurant I have visited and their Tom yum seafood ramen was my first bowl of ramen (as recommended by my friend). up till today, I still visit ajisen ramen and Tom yum seafood ramen is my one and only choice whenever I'm here (except for once where I ordered cha shu ramen and I don't like!!). hahaha I really like how the soup base taste, sour and spicy at the same time! I also like that they add generous amount of seafood like prawns, squids and crab sticks to the ramen. But I have to admit sometimes their standards do drop (soup base not up to standard or the seafood they used wasn't that fresh). However, I think I will still continue to visit ajisen ramen for their Tom yum seafood ramen (I don't think other ramen restaurant sell this). I will always go for their ramen set as it is much worth it (can choose one side dish and a drink of either lemon/green tea). The side dish I will always choose is white fish!! It's crispy on the outside but the fish meat was juicy and tender on the inside!! It is really nice and I highly recommend this My friend on the other hand ordered their tonkutsu ramen (his one and only choice too) which is not too bad too!! The soup base has very strong meat flavor of pork ribs which makes the soup very sweet and fragrant. He ordered gyoza for his side dish which is not nice at all! Do not order this if you were to dine at Ajisen! Anyway, the meal was quite worth it as each set cost only $15-$16 plus each! …Read More

Nasi briyani!
Jalan Kayu Prata Café
2013-07-26
Decided to dine here for lunch as me and my friend like Indian cuisine!! Yum yum!!! I decided to order nasi Briyani with curry chicken while my friend ordered maggi goreng! Hahah. we also ordered milo godzilla and nes cafe godzilla out of curiosity!!! my Briyani came first and i ate a few bites before I rmb to take a photo Anw their Briyani was good!! I like their rice a lot as it doesn't have an overwhelming spices flavor (like some other Indian restaurant), their spices flavor was just right for me I like!! Their curry chicken was also not too bad! Spicy and shiok!!! Only sad thing was that they give me chicken breast meat which I don't really fancy! Anw my friend's maggi goreng took quite long to come! I think they have forgotten abt our order and they only went to cook it after we asked for it! slightly disappointed about it but thankfully the maggi goreng was nice!!! Haha I like the taste! I also like the drinks that we have ordered!! I realized godzilla means that they will add ice cream to the drinks which means we had milo and coffee float (how awesome can it be ) However, I have to say that their servings were quite small! We didn't feel exactly full after the meal!!! their prices were standard like other Indian food cafes. Their Briyani cost $6 plus and the maggi goreng was $3 plus and the drinks were $3 plus each? Overall, I like their food and I think I will definitely come here again next time …Read More

Hot pot dinner!!
STREET 50 Restaurant and Bar
2013-07-26
Was entitled to complimentary hot pot dinner for 2 pax during our staycation at bay hotel! I have to say that their service crew was very friendly and efficient (haha probably we were the only ones there). but anw they did a really good job at greeting us, serving us and refilling our soup base and drinks The ambience of the restaurant was also good. the hot pot dinner came with individual pots, meaning 2 pax will get a small hot pot each. As for the soup base, we can choose between tom yum and chicken broth and we chose one of each to share. In terms of taste, the tom yum soup tasted better than the chicken broth cause it was more flavorful and the chicken broth was too bland. However, the tom yum soup they served was not like the typical thai tom yum we have but rather, it tasted more like assam to me! Didn't really like any of the soup bases but since this meal was complimentary, I guess there is nothing much I can complain about. Anyway the ingredients for our hot pot was fixed (it comes in a set: one bowl of rice/bee hoon/dong hoon, one small plate of chicken and pork, one small plate of prawns and cockles, one small plate of fish, fishball and sotong ball and one huge plate of vegetables and some yong tau foo ingredients). The serving seems small to us but we didn't managed to finish everything as not all the ingredients were to our likings. The ingredients were not exactly fresh especially the pork and cockles (the rest were still okay). The vegetables and ytf ingredients were also okay but we were not very keen as we didn't really fancy the soup bases. Overall, I think I still managed to leave the restaurant with 3 quarter filled stomach but don't think I will visit this place for hot pot dinner again (I prefer other restaurants) p.s. i think the hot pot for 2 pax costs $32++. …Read More

abalone noodleeeee~
Noodle8
2013-07-24
Was at rws with my friend during dinner time on a friday and every restaurants were so crowded!! Saw this noodle restaurant at one corner of rws and since there was no crowd, we decided to dine here (was quite skeptical about their food). Anyway the food that appealed to us most on the menu was this Braised Abalone Noodle Soup ($18+)! The photo on the menu looked so tempting! haha anw we both ordered the noodle and this was how it really looked like. Not too bad right?? I think the noodle tasted not too bad and the soup base was quite nice too (even though i suspected that they added a lot of MSG to enhance the flavour of the soup)! I like that they added some pork rib meat and mushroom to make the noodle taste nicer. haha the highlight of the noodle was the abalone and it was huge! But the taste was okay only lah (what to expect since the noodle only costs $18+)! hahah on top of that, we also ordered a prawn omelette and satay platter to share! Both were unimpressive (Especially don't order the satay as it wasn't worth the price! You can easily find better satays at a cheaper price!) On a whole, the dining experience here was not too bad since the place wasn't very crowded and the food was better than we both expected!! The price was also quite affordable!…Read More

Ssikkek BBQ
2013-07-24
I visited ssikkek bbq at Bras Besah Complex for lunch with my friend and it was only $15+ for each pax and after GST and service charge it was only $16.50 per pax! So cheap for a buffet spread of meats and side dishes. for their meat choices, they have beef, pork collar, bacon strips, chicken meat and pork which i think quite worth for the price. Their meats were really well marinated especially their chicken meat, beef and pork! for some one like me who rarely likes to eat beef, i would have to say they did an awesome job in marinating the beef! (usually i hate the beef smell). Haha! The meats were so tasty! My friend and I had 2 plates full of meat in total! I also like their side dishes like korean pancakes, spicy rice cakes and kimchi!! they all taste very yummy! Anyway there are also free flow drinks and fruits too! Another thing is that their service crew was very friendly and polite. I think they are Koreans. They will check and help us adjust the temperature of our hot plate to make sure our meats won't get overcooked. They were also very efficient in helping us to clear used plates so that we can go for the next round of serving! They also make sure the overall cleanliness of the food tables to make sure people can dine safely and in a hygienic environment! The best thing is that they will spray febreze on every customer after their meal during payment at the counter.Yay to no more bbq smell after meal! All in all, I will definitely come here for bbq soon as their service and quality of food are soooo good!! In addition, me and my friend went during lunch time on a Thursday but no waiting time was required and the place is very spacious! They play Korean music videos too (Good for K pop lovers).…Read More

Pasta and risotto, not!
Platypus Kitchen
2013-07-24
My friend and I decided to try out this rather new restaurant in Bugis Junction since we both never tried it before. they have lunch set offers which are inclusive of a main course, soup of the day and a drink and so we decided to try that. for main course, my friend ordered carbonara while I ordered wild mushroom risotto. Soup of the day was mushroom soup.I ordered peppermint mojito tea for my drink while my friend ordered peach tea. First of all the mushroom risotto tasted not too bad initially but as I continued eating I find the taste too overwhelming and over-filling. Worst of all, my peppermint mojito tea was awful too! It really affected my eating experience. The only thing I managed to finish was the mushroom soup My friend said her carbonara was okay only too! Not sure if it's because I have ordered the wrong food from the menu but I doubt I will come here again for their food! …Read More

Mediterranean food!!
Fig & Olive
2013-07-22
I decided to have dinner here with 2 of my other friends for gathering as the queue wasn't very long! We all ordered a main course each to share among each other and our 3 choices were classic bbq chicken pasta, magribi chicken olive rice and black pepper chicken with potato. Out of the 3, i like the classic bbq chicken pasta the best! The bbq sauce was nice and the chicken meat goes so well with the sauce! The chicken meat was also quite tender. The pasta was also well cooked and I personally like tomato sauce with pasta!! The olive rice from the magribi chicken was also nice! Quite fragrant while the magribi chicken was okay only! Maybe it was because I'm not a fan of herb sauce. Lastly, the black pepper chicken and potato was also okay only, didn't really fancy them.Overall, I think that the food was average only and i think the only good thing was that it wasn't very crowded as compared to the rest of the restaurants. Don't think I will visit this restaurant again unless I have no choice. …Read More

Peri-peri chicken!
Nando's
2013-07-22
This is my first time at Nando's! I really like the ambience and design of the restaurant! Hahah it's very unique and nice. Anyway me and my 2 other friends ordered a full platter to share! It comes with a whole chicken and either 2 large sides or 4 regular sides. Since the 3 of us were first time here, we decided to take 4 regular sides to try out! the 4 sides we chose were the Mediterranean rice, garlic breads, fries and coleslaw. As for the chicken, we can also choose the level of spicinesss we want (haha they called it the peri-ometer! how cute!) and we chose the second level which is mild The first level is non-spicy where the chicken will be marinated using lemon and herbs while the third and forth level are hot and extra hot respectively! i think this is very good as not all people can take spicy food very well and so we can actually customised our level of spiciness according to our preference For our chicken, I felt that mild was really nothing as i couldn't really taste the spiciness in the chicken! Haha to me it tastes like non spicy one! So average people like me (average in taking spicy food) might want to consider the next hot level to get the kick! haha. on the side note, the chicken was really well marinated and i like how it taste! I also think that the chicken they used was really tender as normally i do not like the chicken breast meat part but surprisingly, the chicken breast meat here was quite soft and fragrant unlike some places which serve very dry chicken breast meat! Anyway their side dishes were good too! The Mediterranean rice was quite special and the garlic breads were not too bad I went during lunch hour and it was not very crowded! the restaurant is quite spacious too! Overall we spent around $50 for this meal which I felt quite worthwhile as we were quite full after finishing the meal …Read More

Oozing custard buns
Victor's Kitchen
2013-07-22
Say hello to the cute little custard buns from Victor's Kitchen! There is something special about the custard buns here. Personally, I felt that as compared to the ones i ate from other places, the custard buns here doesn't have a very strong taste of the salted egg yolk but rather they have a more buttery taste to it. It's quite unique as it has more of a sweeter taster rather than the typical salty taste in other custard buns. I would definitely recommend this to people who like butter taste and also people who don't like the taste of salted eggs. Hahha what's more, the fillings of the custard buns here will ooze out the moment you bite into them!Super shiok when you eat them! Do give it a try when you are at Sunshine Plaza! My friend and I also ordered other dishes like century egg porridge, steamed carrot cake, chee cheong fun with char siew and my favourite chicken feets. The porridge was good while the chicken feet and chee cheong fun was so-so only! Hahaha apparently their steamed carrot cake was also one of their signature dishes but I personally think it was okay only! maybe because I prefer the normal fried carrot cake! Overall the food was not bad and affordable but i think i will only come for the custard buns next time! Anyway the queue is quite long during lunch hour time and we waited for like 20mins before we get a small table! The place is quite small and squeezy as they tried to squeeze in as many tables as possible to accommodate more ppl so I find it a bit hard to eat properly! Haha so do try to reach there before lunch time so that you can get better seats p.s. There is this angsty uncle working there and he can get a bit impatient when ordering and serving due to the crowd!! …Read More
