Hai Di Lao Hot Pot – IMM Jurong 海底捞火锅
Haidilao Hot Pot
2015-06-02
Excellence customer service starts before the patrons enter the restaurants, Hai Di Lao Hot Pot knows well the physiology of the customers by providing drinks, tidbits and manicure in some of the outlets as a way to show its customer care to those waiting in the queue. In the restaurant, you were served with hot napkin to clean the hands before and after the meal, serving you bowl of deletable soup from the broth, waitress helps you peeling the shell from the prawns, consistently checking and topping up the broth, a plate of sweet while waiting for your bill ….. You are much pampered here.We ordered two different broth, the favorite Chicken and the more unique Tomatoes broth. The chicken broth was simmered with black chicken than the usual white chicken, black chicken by nature is less oily and less “heaty” compared to the white birds. More importantly, black chicken perceives premium value instantly makes them a difference from the rest of the hot pot restaurants. The tomatoes broth was prepared to ensure the perfect balance of sweetness and sourness from the fruits. It has to be tasted natural and not the artificial, Hai Di Lao seems to touch on the right note.Hai Di Lao is not meant to be cheap and expectation go hand in hand. The hot pot items we ordered includes the green veggies, mushroom, sliced black pork, meatball, fish paste, dumplings and home made noodle, all the items never failed us, Hao Di Lao emphasis on food quality in every dish showcased the professionalism of the restaurant and the determination to uphold the reputation with a difference.More than twenty types of dipping sauces are available to go with the orders, it is unlikely you can’t find one that you love. Honestly, we enjoyed not just the food but the great service here. Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review and address.…Read More

9 Goubuli @ Singapore Marina Bay Sands 狗不理包子
9Goubuli
2015-04-05
Goubuli baozi (狗不理包子) literally means “the dog not give it a damn” in English, a name hardly can one makes the connection with a reputable food popular in Tianjin China and now a well known buns prevalent in many parts of the mainland China. The original restaurant was opened in 1858 in TianJin China, the man behind the shop started the business with his tantalizing buns that even the Empress was deeply impressed, the business was so overwhelming to the point the boss had to ignore whoever approached him in order to make more buns, the arrogance and boastful attitude annoyed the public and everyone started associating him in a relegate manner describing him with a conceited pet. After more than a century, Goubuli has found it ways into Singapore, setting up first restaurant and introducing the famous buns here at Singapore Marina Bay Sands. We managed to try all the three types of buns with different fillings. Meat ($2.60), the Wagyu beef ($3.50), vegetable ($1.90) fillings, the beef and vegetables filling were the most delectable and flavourful amongst the three varieties, the bun skin was soft and fluffy; however, we wish the fillings can be more compact to fully enjoy the goodness of the buns.9 Guobuli may be specialised in the baozi but somehow we prefer the cooked dishes more than the buns in our opinion. The succulent Dan Dan Noodles, Fried Diced Chicken in Chili to the Braised Fish Maw in Superior Soup are enthralling and awesome. We like the dishes for it well balanced in the seasoning, not too heavy in sweetness or saltiness (ok..a little numbness) and truly a comfort food that most of us find it alluring. Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More

Onya Sayang – The Peranakan’s Flavour
O'nya Sayang
2015-02-09
Onya Sayang (a mother’s love) is another franchising business from the Dulukala Peranakan restaurant, already popular for its authentic, home cooked Peranakan cuisines. We visited twice the restaurant within a short span of two weeks, first time to do a food review and second trip was with my parent-in-law to verify the authenticity of this Peranakan delicacy.Located in the Paya Lebar Square which is just a stone throw from the Paya Lebar MRT, this is another new shopping mall opened its door in 2015.Our verdict, we are pleasantly surprised the hearty and homely flavour from Onya Sanyang, quoted my parent-in-law comments; it is definitely one of the better peranakan food in town.We highly recommend the Babi Ponteh, Ayam Buah Keluak, Beef Redang and the Gula Melaka Sago Ice Cream. Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More

Symmetry Cafe – Balance in all aspects
Symmetry Cafe
2015-02-08
Things in symmetrical symbolized equilibrium and harmony, it has to be felt good. That’s what we are looking for when stepping into this cafe. Classic French cuisine is served in this cosy cafe located at Jalan Kubor. Rustic furniture and touch of eclectic decoration inlay amongst the red brick to create a chic contemporary ambience with emphasis on European’s wildness. The choice of outdoor sittings provide an alternative for those prefer the natural airThe price seems high when looking through the menu and the expectations naturally goes hand on hand.We ordered Crispy Baby Squid $17, Symmetry Eggs Benedict $22, Truffle Potato Fries $15, Truffle Mushroom Carbonara $23, Symmetry Eggs Sur Le Plat $24 and Waffles $16.Must try the Symmetry Eggs Benedict, Symmetry Eggs Sur Le Plat, Truffle Mushroom Carbonara and Truffle Potato Fries. Our verdict, Symmetrical comes with balancing of everything to achieve harmony and equilibrium. At Symmetry, the price is not easily to stomach for many and not easily balanced with the budgets, fortunately, it made up with the quality of the food. Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More

Keng Heng Teochew (Whampoa) Lor Mee - So good!
Keng Heng (Whampoa) Teow Chew Lor Mee
2015-02-07
Keng Heng Teochew (Whampoa) Lor Mee is managed by an old couple, the stall was featured by Mediacorp “Our Makan Places: Lost & Found” recently and that triggered our tastebuds to explore the Teochew Lor Mee.We ordered the $3 serving. If you are not a friend of Chilli, you may like to request no Chilli or less chilli, the homemade Sambal Balachan chili has the power to tickle your tongue. The toppings came with slices of braised pork, fried fish skin, fried dumpling skin, Wu Xiang and fish cake. Noodle was a mixture of yellow noodle and white bee hoon. The gravy was light in color if not the added black vinegar, slightly less gooey if compared to many other lor mee. First mouthful was an immediate affirmative response from its excellent taste; the gravy was smooth and extremely tantalizing with its perfect seasoning and stunning flavour. The noodles were fully absorbed the essence of the gravy, together with sambal chili, cut chili, black vinegar, diced garlic and chopped spring onion that further accentuated the flavour and making it one of the most coveted lor mee in Singapore. Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More

Fresh and delicious Maxican food!
Baja Fresh
2015-02-04
Baja Fresh is a US based Mexican grill food chain and has been serving Mexican grill food for decades. We are thankful we got the chance to experience both the Baja Fresh home-delivery and on-site tasting treat.Spicy Chicken Americano Tacos ($5.95 onwards)Tacos is a traditional Mexican food, made of a corn or wheat tortilla filled with various proteins, vegetables and cheese, usually go with guacamole, salsa. Another interesting wrap but eat without wrapping the tortilla.Pork Quesadillas ($12.95 onwards)A quesadilla is a flour tortilla or a corn tortilla filled with cheese and/or vegetables. Don’t let its plain look deceive you; this is easily one of the tastiest dishes we’ve had in a while. The grilled flour tortilla was held together with Monterey Jack Cheese and slow cooked American style pulled Pork Carnitas. The pork was exceptionally tender and seasoned it formed the perfect blend with the cheese – each bite was fireworks in the mouth! It’s served with sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo but we guarantee the sauces are just an extra bonus and really not needed.Tostada Salad ($12.95 onwards)One thing we love about Baja Fresh is that they really live up to their name in terms of the freshness of the foods and it really shows through the salad. The greens were fresh, and paired with beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, salsa and some prawns! The crispy tortilla shell gave the whole dish an extra kick too, perfect for those looking for a light and guilt-free meal! While Quesadilla was well loved by all, the Tostada Salad, Burritos and the Tacos were equally enticing! Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More

Tian Shui Hainan Chicken Rice 天水海南鸡饭
Tian Shui Ji Fan
2015-01-02
Tian Shui Hainan Chicken Rice is just right next to the famous Wei Yi Laksa and Prawn Mee, another popular hawker stalls in the Tanglin Halt Market and Food Centre. Tian Shui Hainan Chicken Rice selling both the steamed white chicken and roasted chicken. We decided to evaluate both of them. When we compared the chicken rice from Tian Shui Hainan Chicken Rice to other good chicken rice that we have evaluated, the difference seems to be fairly distinct; the rice here was missing the fragrance from the chicken stock and the flavour from the seasoning. The plate of rice though was grainy but overall taste was rather one dimensional and lacked of the enthusiasm expected from good chicken rice. May be the chicken rice here was less oily and hence made it a healthier choice for those with more health conscious. While the rice may not be too appealing to the taste buds, both the steamed white chicken and roasted chicken somehow compensated the shortfall with its tender and juicy meat. Instead of the traditional soy sauce, Tian Shui Hainan Chicken Rice replaced it with the gooey sauce to douse over the chicken to give a different taste, something unique to Tian Shui Hainan Chicken Rice. The chili was pretty good as the dip as well. Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More

Old Street Bak Kut Teh @ Westgate
Old Street Bak Kut Teh. You Tiao. Soya Milk
2014-12-28
A new player and joined the Bak Kut Teh bandwagon in 2010, Old street Bak Kut Teh has tried to differentiate from others, besides the peppery herb soupy version, it has created dark sauce dried version as well.We opted for the set menu which consists of Peppery herbal pork ribs soup Bak Kut Teh, You Tiao, bean curd and rice. We also ordered two side dishes Braised bean curd strips and Dark sauce dry version Bak Kut Teh.Our verdict, there was no oolong Chinese tea to go along with the fat-laden Bak Kut Teh, however, it was still much a fulfilling meal of the day. Go for the set menu for best economic deal of $11 and $15, the difference is the choice of normal Bak Kut Teh or Premium Loin Ribs. However, it may be a bit pricey.Recommended dishesork Ribs Soup Bak Kut TheYou Tiao (dough stick)Braised Beancurd strips (tau kee)Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More

Herbal Oasis @ Duxton 一盅汤 – Healthy and Sumptuous
Herbal Oasis
2014-12-28
Managed by a Renhai clinic, Herbal Oasis claims to offer healthy and sumptuous meals for people to enjoy in a peaceful and comfortable environment. Located at the 2nd level of a RenHai Clinic仁海堂, the Zen inspired design instantly gives you a sense of calmness and serenity when you step into the restaurant. The menu consists of flavoured rice made of different ingredients, herbal soups, tea made from TCM herbs and healthy desserts that benefit the overall well-being. Their recipes are developed by qualified TCM physicians working with experienced chefs. Each item on the menu has a herbal touch to it, even the freshly baked homemade pastries! The rice was nicely cooked and perfectly done boosted by the natural flavour from the olive, yam and walnut. Keep in mind we are talking about healthy eating and don’t expect heavy seasoning for a bowl of oily, salty or artificially sweet rice. It was a bowl of fragrance rice impregnated with all the natural goodness that we all love. Must try their Yam rice, super yummy! The soup were not oily or too salty, the Qi Tonic Chicken Soup actually has the chicken skin completely removed to keep the bad cholesterol to the minimum. For Snow Pear with Fig Soup, the Pork ribs were lean and small just enough to infuse the sweetness and flavour into the soup, we are talking about healthy eating and so please don’t expect big chuck of fatty meat to be served. Overall, the soup quality has not been compromised and it is once again proven healthy cooking is achievable through natural means and not required the artificial seasoning. Must try their Qi Tonic Chicken Soup. The dishes stick to Herbal Oasis healthy cooking philosophy, besides the herbs for various health benefits, the two dishes Fish with Danggui & Mushrooms and Sweet Peas with Chinese Yam and Abalone Mushrooms that we tried were not salty or oily, it was light and capitalized the natural sweetness and flavour from the ingredients to give the dish the succulent taste. We can fully appreciate the goodness of these hearty dishes. The teas are specially blended to provide specific health benefits. We can fully appreciate the fragrance from the floral and herbs. The Muffins were soft and moist, we like it for the not too sweet taste and the nice aroma from the black sesame and sweetness of the red dates. Perfect to go with the tea. Must try the red dates muffin. Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More

SELA restaurant Seah Street - creative food!
Restaurant SELA
2014-12-03
Sela in Hebrew meaning rock, radiated from the “rocky” interior design. Opened for business just few mouths and we are invited to evaluate the menu specially created and prepared by the head of chef Mohammad Shahrom, who is specialized in gourmet European cuisine. SELA is a modern European restaurant trying to establish the footage with its creative food menu. Flipping through the menu, you will probably realized there isn’t too many choices, it is really the idea by the restaurant of keeping the menu simple and just focus on quality. Our verdict, using fresh and quality ingredients with a good culinary skills are the biggest attraction by SELA, if you enjoy European delicacies, the fine food at SELA should be able to entice your palette.Recommend dishes and dessert :Salmon Skewers, Grape Relish $13.00Miso Squid, Sweet Peas, Salmon roes $10.00Baked Miso Chilean Seabass, Edamame & Sweet Peas $27.00Gula Melaka Creme CaramelPlease refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review. …Read More

Lao Zhong Zhong Fine Spice Ngoh Hiang - the Best!
Lao Zhong Zhong Fine Spice Stall
2014-11-23
Lao Zhong Zhong “Fine” (Should be “Five” we thought?) spices Wu Xiang is the famous Ngoh Hiang stall that started near the previous Old Thong Chai Chinese medical hall at South Bridge Road. Over the years, it has shifted several times and now finally settled down in one of the coffeeshops at Macpherson.Talking about good Ngoh Hiang or Wu Xiang in Singapore, Lao Zhong Zhong is a clear winner in the Ngoh Hiang category. Why is that so? Of course, there are good Ngoh Hiang stalls around and you can find one or two good types of Wu Xiang out of the many exotic variations available at the stall, however, most of the balance assortments are usually atrocious and in the end only left you with more disgruntlement. What truly make Lao Zhong Zhong stands out amongst the rest are their quality, taste and price. It is the key elements that help to formulate the winning formula for Lao Zhong Zhong. Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More

Flavour Flings cafe @ Hougang – simple café
Flavour Flings
2014-11-08
Flavour Flings run by a lovely and friendly Muslim couple, while the café itself is not halal certified (yet), all ingredients used are halal. Although this is the first time running a cafe, they are definitely not new to the café scene as they are also café hoppers themselves. The new café is located in the Hougang heartland area among other eateries.Must try The Awesome One ($11.00)This is the chef’s specialty, the pancakes were soft and fluffy with a homemade feel. Served with salted caramel, we were expecting it to be very sweet but surprisingly it wasn’t! The pancakes blended very well with the bananas, kind of awesome! Our verdict, seeing the owner going around table to table gathering feedback, and from the few main dishes we had evaluated, we could sense their sincerity – and it’s heartwarming that Flavour Flings cafe is putting in such an effort to ensure the tastiness and quality of the food. The only comment we have is the pricing which could be a little on the high side for a café that is situated in the heartlands. On that note – we believe some fine tuning is all it takes and they should ready to take off! Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More

TAO Seafood Asia
2014-11-08
Red and white are the main theme colour, bright and classic furniture provides a very comfortable dining environment with private VIP rooms catered for private events. Tao Seafood Restaurant is geared towards more a fine dining with some trace of Thai cuisine combination of Teochew and Singapore origins dishes. The name “TAO” is derived from the name “Lao Tao”, a synonyms of foodies in the ancient Chinese, it is a name reflects well on their business on appreciation of great food, we are one of the “Lao Tao” that invited to review the new menu that scheduled to be launched soon. Our verdict, TAO Seafood restaurant may not a big restaurant but they are at least 15 chefs whipping out the dishes, we were surprised with the number of chefs involved but according to Adrian, this is to ensure the consistency of the quality since each chef only responsible for one to two dishes. Too many cooks may spoil the soup may have it logic. We recommend the following dishes:Crisp Fish Skin with Salted egg sauce $10TAO Signature Soup with Premium Fish Maw and Crabmeat $68Steamed lived Marble Goby (Soon Hock) with Preserved Radish – seasonal priceStir Fried Fish Maw with Prawns $44White pepper crab $6 per 100gPot Roasted Crab with Glass Noodles $45Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review.…Read More
