I like the blackforest cake ($3) from Pine Garden cakes. It comes with 3 layers of moist chocolate cake with cream, and rum-soaked cherry bits in between. The cholcolate taste is not too rich and heavy. The cream is fresh and alcohol is well balanced (not overwhelming). This combination makes it taste distinguish from other blackforest cake. Commonly see the dessert - mango pomelo sago 楊枝甘露. But this one comes with additional scoop of icecream. So decided to try it. It is really good. It comes with a lot of mango chunks. The mango cream is sweet to the right extent and the pomelo and mango bits adds a tinch of sourness . The icecream is of very smooth texture and when eaten together with the mango chunks and cream, the combination is perfect - sweet and sour in harmony. At a price of around $5, I think it is quite value-for-money. I tried this island grilled cod today , topped with sweet sour and spicy volcano sauce. I thought the fish is a bit hard, unlike the cod which I usually tried. The fish is quite bland actually but a good sauce would be good. The sauce is a bit disappointing. Though it says "sweet sour and spicy volcano sauce." I would expect it to be quite spicy. Happen to chance upon this shop while shopping for items for our house.The place looks simple on the exterior, more like a coffee shop type. But the items are not cheap, more like restaurant prices. Anyway, we tried it.We ordered the prawn with beancurd and kangkang with rice. I like both of them very much. The prawns are big and fresh, and goes very well with the egg gravy and beancurd. The gravy is thick to the right extent, and not too saltish. Goes well with rice. The beancurd is soft and melts in the mouth.The kangkong is stir-fried and is quite spicy and a bit saltish. I would like to recommend the yam ring from Gim Tim. It is huge, only about $15.There are a lot of ingredients within – cashews, chicken, corns, capsicum, carrots, mushroom etc. All are in very generous servings. I like it a lot because the yam is soft and tasty, while crispy on the outside. The yam ring doesn't have an oily after taste or those bad oil taste. The chickens are fresh and juicy. The cashew nuts and greens added texture and taste to the overall dish so that it's not so boring just eating the yam.Staff service is fast and friendly. Tried the ala cart buffet lunch. Quite reasonable price (< $30/pax) for the wide range of food. I like the salad prawn, which combines sweetness and savory. It tastes refreshing with the fresh prawn, pineapples, cherries, fruit cocktail and mayo. Prawns look a bit transparent with crunchy feel.The chilli crab is only so so, expected it to be more spicy and less sweet. Also, the crab doesn’t seem very fresh. Like the japanese section of Buffet town best. Lots of variety of sushi. The sushi filling are all very fresh. Rice is not too soggy.  I like the sweet and savory combination of the egg sushi. The prawn sushi is well made whih which brings out the taste of the prawn. Presentation was also good and appealing.The peranakan section of the buffet. is also good. It has curry, chap chai etc. the curry chicken is delicious, though the curry sauce is not thick or rich enough. They could have added more potatoes to the curry too. We ordered the apple pie with a scoop of strawberry icecream. The apple serving in the pie is generous and the flaky crust just melts in the mouth. It it not too sweet and mushy. The apple pie is warm and nice and goes very well with the strawberry icecreamThe icecream's texture is fine, not too sweet and the milk taste is good. Peony Jade is always my choice for ala cart Chinese food buffet. The weekday buffet lunch is quite worth it. About $40++/pax, Buy 3 get 1 free for credit card promotion. The following dishes can only be ordered once – whole abalone, salmon sashimi, Hk dim sum, fish maw soup, deep-fried soon hock. Other dishes include seafood, appetizers, soups, poultry, noodles/rice, beancurd, vegetables and dessert. I like the selection of HK dim sum. For the siew mai, the juices burst from each dumpling as I sank my teeth in, and experienced the wonderful chewiness in each bite. For Har Kow, the prawn is fresh and does not have too much of seasoning. The spring roll is very crispy on the outside, though the vegetables could a bit hard.  I don’t really like the Fish maw soup though as it taste a bit weird in braised hot and sour soup, more sour than spicy. I ordered the crabmeat bouillon with golden mushroom instead, and I like it. The crabmeat and mushroom are generous and the soup is very tasty with all the ingredients, can taste the natural sweetness of the crabmeat and other ingredients. I like this place for its desserts more than its main courses. Besides the much sought-after durian desserts, I think the other cakes are also worth a mention.Besides looking attractive, the cakes also taste very delicious. I especially like the chocolate layer cakes. It is moist with two thick layers of dark chocolate icing/cream. Instead of being heavy, that just makes this cake more satisfying. Agree that the buffet lunch is value for money, at around $30+/pax. There are a wide range of food, and most of them are quite delicious. I like the fish hor fun. There is generous helping of fish. The fish meat is tender and not overcooked. It is not salty too.The gravy is not heavy handed on seasonings but some may find that this plate leans on the milder side compared to those in HDB zi char.Would like the recommend the pork ribs too...The meat is not too tough or gluey soft like some shops. The rich honey/sweet taste makes you crave for more.Staff service could be better...perhaps there are too many people and clearing of plates is a bit slow. Carousel has a huge selection of food. I like particularly the dessert range. The cakes are all very high quality and looks attractive. I particularly like the chocolate slice, the chocolate is very rich and creamy. Very solid chocolate and a bit moist, Heavenly. I particularly like the Wafu pizza from Watami. The pizza has chicken, shredded vegetables, mushrooms and drizzled with Japanese mayonnaise and teriyaki sauce. I find that the ingredients are well-combined for a great taste. Sweet and salty well combined. The helpings of chicken and mushroom could be made more generous though. The best part is its super thin crust which makes it very crispy and crunchy. $10.80 for a pizza.
