Average Food and Service
Central Hong Kong Café
2013-05-14
Average food and service, do not go during peak periods - the queue system is terrible because the waitresses do not care and guests can just walk in and sit down at the outside portion without queuing when there is a queue outside.Inside is very stuffy and the tables are TOO CLOSE to each other!!! We ordered:1) Seafood Baked Rice - When I asked for cheese powder, the waitress was not sure if there is.. walked here and there .. and finally I had to ask another waitress only to be told there is NO cheese powder. Overall, rice was not tasty.2) Wanton Noodles (Dry) - Supposed to be Hong Kong-style Wantan noodles, but was not. The noodles stuck together, rather tasteless, and there was too little sauce. Wanton stuck to the bowl and also stuck together in a clump. We helped ourselves to the green-cut chilli because the staff was too busy to care about us. We also saw other people helping themselves rather than wait for them to serve them... :(…Read More

MAD - Overall, Overpriced for the Quality of Food
MAD - Modern Asian Diner
2013-05-14
This fusion restaurant uses ipads as menus, and you just have to key in your orders. Convenient.1) Fried rice with XO Sauce - absolutely no taste so much so that we had to use soya sauce.2) Char Siew Bao - skin was soft but sticks to your teeth, but overall, taste and quality just normal. .. too little pork and not tasty. 3) Fried prawn fritters with cheese - a bit too salty.. cannot taste the cheese at all.Overall, this is an overpriced restaurant for the type of food served.…Read More

Big portions, need to introduce new dishes in menu
TungLok Signatures
2013-04-14
We had dinner there last Friday, and ordered:1) Fried cod fillet with salt egg yolk and organic vegetables -- batter we felt was too thick and overpowered the taste of the cod fish.. we felt it would be nicer if the batter was thinner and reduced.. 2) Poached vegetables with Pumpkin stock - generous portion, but vegetables was ok. 3) Bamboo Clam - Normal, but the sauce was nice. We are regular patrons of Tung Lok restaurants since some time back, and thought they should come up with some new dishes in their menu to surprise their customers.... after a while, we ran out of dishes to order.. . quite bored of the same dishes.. …Read More

Tim Ho Wan - not really worth it
Tim Ho Wan
2013-04-14
We went on the opening day, and waited for close to 3 hours! Crazy.. but we had nothing much to do so we waited while we shopped. If you are pushing for time, don't bother to wait, just go Crystal Jade.. . why do I say that? Read on.. In all, we tried: Char Siew Bao, steamed pork ribs, carrot cake, pork liver cheong fun, shrimp cheong fun, crab meat spring rolls, mushroom chicken and sausage chicken rice and dessert Guai hua gao (Osmanthus cake). Only the Char Siew Bao and carrot cake were worth the wait, the others you can forget it.. not worth it at all. . :Char Siew Bao - Soft pastry with juicy, BBQ pork that melts in your mouth. Have not tasted such nice Char Siew Bao before really. Carrot cakes - melts in your mouth, definitely worth a try Pork liver cheong fun -- weird taste combination .. can't taste that it's pork liverShrimp cheong fun -- flour skinning was too, too thick Crab meat spring rolls - can't tasted the crab meat inside, although overall it was ok, hot and nice.Mushroom and sausage chicken rice - this was the worst of the lot, we wait like one hour from the time we sat down, and the result was so disappointing. The rice has no taste, the mushroom and sausages does not taste like mushrooms / sausages. Pork ribs - so, so only. have tasted better ones in Singapore.Dessert Osmanthus cake - didn't disappoint, didn't excite. Won't be going back again unless there is no choice. …Read More

Canton Paradise - Totally Disappointing!
Canton Paradise at The Star Vista
2013-01-10
1) We waited longer than expected because they gave a seat to a couple who was behind us in the number queue - when asked, they said it was a 'mistake'. Anyway, we observed that they gave bigger groups rather than two pax seats first, which is very unfair. Not like Crystal Jade which goes exactly by the number system, whether you are two pax or a group. 2) "Handmade Meatball Congee" - absolutely tasteless with 5 pathetically small meatballs that looked and tasted anything other than "handmade". 3) Double Boiled Chicken Soup - came after we finished our porridge, and after we asked three different waitresses three times why it had not arrived yet. When it finally did, were we disappointed. What was shown in the menu and what was given us was totally different. The menu showed a big piece of fat juicy chicken in a big bowl, but what we got was the kind of boiled soup that was dished out by those hawker stalls, with a few pathetic pieces of dry chicken and two pieces of ginger. Soup itself wasn't fantastic either. In all, totally disappointed with Canton Paradise. Such food should not have come from a restaurant which is the sister restaurant of the more premium Seafood Paradise. …Read More
