Yummy and Healthy ^^
Steamed Gourmet - Food Fare
2014-02-28
Nowadays the public has been getting more health-conscious with many public eat-out health initiatives going on. Kopitiam has been promoting the preferred choice for brown rice, brown vermicelli, less salt and less sugar.Tried the steamed gourmet as I am a fan of brown rice. I like the chewy solid texture of the rice. The dishes here are all steamed, appealing to those who like the light and healthier cooking style.Overall, though being priced steeper than the others, I really like the food here, mainly simply it is healthy and yet delicious!! ^^…Read More

Mediocre food
New York Grand Kitchen
2014-02-28
The restaurant is a new face in Suntec City, easily located near the Fountain of Wealth.A very spacious restaurant with ample seatings. Decided to give it a try despite being relatively deserted on a Sunday afternoon.Tried the signature Grilled Chicken and the Prawn and Mushroom hotplate. The grilled chicken was bland and dry while on the other hand, the hotplate was decent but was nothing fantastic. The items on the free flow salad bar were quite limited and mediocre. Surprisingly, the item I liked the most was its croissants, buttery and flaky enough. In general, food quality is really mediocre. But with its spacious setting, the place would be good for big group dining. …Read More

Not worth it.
Toss & Turn
2014-02-28
Tried the Beef Lasagna here as it definitely looked appealing with the tomato gravy added on to the Lasagna as compared to the usual dry ones outside. The tomato gravy was rich in its flavour but to my disappointment the lasagna was executed below expectations. The beef filling was very minimal while the Lasagna layer was a bit hard. With the price the Lasagna costed, I find it definitely not worth for its quality. Quite a flop, better to stick to the soup, salad or sandwiches. …Read More

Refreshingly Syiok ^^
Maccha House
2014-02-28
As the name of the restaurant suggests, its specialty is none other than Matcha ^^ Among all the places I have tried which serve Matcha beverages, I find that Maccha House has indeed the best rendition. I like that the Matcha taste is rich and strong while the drinks are not overly sweetened. Then only one can savour the bitter sweetness of Matcha I always have the Matcha Latte with Matcha ice cream. The soft serve vanilla Ice cream is not too sweet, adding on to a perfect completion of bitter sweetness. Just the very drink one needs for refreshing syiokness The dining area is very spacious and would be a very good option for group dining or just desserts while chit-chatting …Read More

New Mini Yam topping! Worth a try
KOI Café
2014-02-28
Koi has a new addition to its range of toppings, namely the mini yam. I have stopped taking pearls and usually only choose grass jelly or aloe Vera as topping. Wondering how yam would complement my Oolong milk tea instead of the usual grass jelly, I ordered it with mini yam.The yam pieces were indeed mini. It was quite good, so QQ and chewy. But, from its texture, I would think it is made with glutinous powder or some kind of starch rather than being just pure yam alone. So I gotta be wary of its calories 😣Anyway, I would think it is a better tasting option than pearls. It has the mild sweetness of Taro and the chewy QQ addictive texture. …Read More

Satisfied! Good and Reasonable
Canele Patisserie Chocolaterie
2014-02-28
Went to this place for a quick bite before a movie and it was relatively quick. As there wasn't much dining crowd, I didn't have to wait too long before the food was served.Located at the floor of Shaw Theatre, one would be able to watch all the trailers on the big projector screen.Ordered a Carbonara pasta and a Apple Chicken Walnut salad. I like the refreshing mix of apples and walnut together with some sautéed chicken slices. The pasta, on the other hand, was actually quite creamy so it felt kinda gelat halfway through. But there was a generous serving of crispy bacon along with the pasta, adding on an addictive crunch to it.Overall, I find the food quality here pretty much satisfying yet being reasonably-priced. But surprisingly it was relatively deserted on a Sunday evening …Read More

You be the Judge, Burger or Wings? :D
Burger VS Wings + Bar (BWB)
2014-02-28
Newly opened restaurant in Orchard Central, located high up at Level 11, it is only through reading HGW that I come to know of this place. Being a burger fan, I headed over since there is a 30% discount for HGW readers until end of Feb.At the entrance, the decorations and layout of the restaurant is sure as eye-catching and quirky. You will see a punching bag hung at the side of the main entrance. The interior was kinda solemn and sombre. It is designed with a concept of a fighting ring I suppose with the decorations of some fighting gloves, head gear and Thai fighting shorts. A unique concept I would say.Food variety, as the name of the restaurant suggests, is fairly limited to burgers and wings plus a few other options of pasta. Eager to try the burgers, I ordered the Pumpkin Rice Cracker with Beef patty ($16.90) and my friend had the Cajun Wings ($15.80). I was slightly disappointed to see that my burger was actually a 'rice burger', I did not read the food description properly before ordering. However, though not really getting a real burger, I was delightedly consoled by the food quality and taste. The beef patty was moist and flavourful, and the poached egg on top of it also made it not so dry, adding on a yummy eggy taste. Rice cracker below was also slightly crispy, especially the side parts of the rice. On the other hand, the wings was not too bad too, well-marinated and thus was full of flavour of the Cajun spice. But I think if there were to be some spiciness, it would be added oomp while the wings size was not big. I like wings to be huge and chunky haha There is a salad and tapas bar whereby one can have free flow salad, soup and dessert with an add-on of $4..90 during lunch hours. I think all the types of salad served were simply awesome. The tomato soup was good too but not sourish enough. My friend liked very much the thin crispy Papaderm with salsa topping which I find them addictive too.Overall, good food quality and interesting concept. Staff are all friendly and attentive. I would head back definitely to try on a real burger the next time haha …Read More

Worth a Try!!
Eggs & Berries
2014-02-27
On passing by the restaurant, my attention was drawn to the bright and colorful gay outlook of the whole place. Standing at the entrance of the entrance, my attention was then redirected to the appealing big menu signboard. Heard the first branch of Eggs and Berries at Changi City Point is not bad, now that it is strategically located all the way to the west nearby where I stayed, I was delighted to head off to the place for a visit. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Leg ($18.90) which consists of a broiled boneless chicken leg, fries and a poached egg. The meat was juicy and tender while the chicken skin was flavoured with Cajun spices. The poached egg was executed nicely just the way it should be. But I wondered how would the egg complement the dish. I ate the egg along with a pancake which I took from my friend's plate haha My friend had the Steak and Egg ($18.90). The whole plate was an appealing mix of steak, sunny side up, buttermilk pancakes, rosti, baked beans and mixed greens. Everything was near to perfection with the salivating aroma and flavorful gravy sauce.Eggs and berries serves good decent quality food. The environment with its bright gay vibrancy adds on to a pleasant overall dining experience …Read More

Over-rated DimSum
Tim Ho Wan
2014-02-27
Having tried the TimHoWan's original branch in HongKong, I left the place then feelin disappointed and utterly bewildered how it would justify so much raved reviews about it. Well to sound not so critical, the only thing I do applaud would be the BBQ buns.Back in SG, the hype continues and now there are already four branches if I am not mistaken. Finally I decided to give the signature BBQ Char Siew baked buns ($4.50 for 3pcs) a try.I bought them as take away but ate them immediately after that when it was still piping hot. The baked crust was crispy and with my first munch, it was delighting to feel its contents oozing out. However, my delight was short lived. The whole bun tasted way too sweet. For myself personally I think it should be savory with perhaps just mild sweetness. Yet it was still commendable to see visible chunks of Char Siew in the juicy filling. But the sweetness was too much for my liking.Generally i don't see the hype over this DimSum restaurant. But surely with its decent food quality, strategic location and accessibility, it is still an option to consider for a DimSum meal.…Read More

Try YongTofu & noodles wit its minced pork gravy!
FuLin Fried Yong Tofu - Food Republic
2014-02-27
The stall serves YongTauFoo with a special brown gravy with minced pork. The gravy has a slight sweetness in it and it goes well with the noodles and the YongTauFoo.A set comes with noodles in the gravy and six pieces, costs $5.30. The YongTauFu are all fresh and good though nothing much fantastic . But I like the noodles in the gravy with minced pork which adds on a palatable taste to the whole dish …Read More

Less than satisfactory
Griddy Gourmet Waffles
2014-02-26
Was looking for a burger and came across this place and thought of giving it a try. It has a slightly different concept from the usual sandwich bun as the bread bun is replaced with a thin waffle.Tried the Griddy Ocean Catch ($8.10). It came with some waffle fries as side. The thin waffle has a mild fragrance but was rather soft and not crispy. The fish fillet was ordinary, just like the normal fried frozen fish fillet one gets from supermarket. Waffles fries tasted like bland deep friend potatoes. Overall, the sandwich was really unimpressive while for its worth, the pricing might have been slightly steep in my opinion. Not going back for a second shot.…Read More

Not the usual Pepper-spammed Bak Kut Teh :D
Leon Kee Claypot Pork Rib Soup
2014-02-26
As our taste buds are most probably accustomed to the common version of peppery Bak Kut Teh, some might not welcome the change of the taste of the soup this stall offers. The soup has an aromatic pleasing herbal taste which appeals very much to me. Sadly, you can't ask for free refill like other usual Bak Kut Teh place. A Claypot of Pork Rib soup for one person costs $4. The soup was full of flavour while the pork ribs meat was tender to chew. Ordered a side dish of Mushroom Kailan ($3) which complemented the meal nicely If you don't mind trying the herbal soup taste, this is a change from the usual Bak Kut Teh. Food quality is good and fresh and reasonably-priced.…Read More

Thumbs up to the Pasta ^^
Yomenya Goemon
2014-02-26
Looking at the display of the wide array of appealing pasta, pizza and side dishes is indeed tempting enough to justify a visit to this pasta place After a dining experience to the place, I feel that it has justified a re-visit to the restaurant in the future.Went on a weekday for lunch and there is a promotion of weekday lunch set $14.90 which consists of any choice of pasta, salad and a small soup. For the salad, there is a salad counter to mix and match own salad. Though the choices are fairly limited, they are all fresh and good. One can choose from the usual lettuce, carrots, cherry tomatoes to fruits such as pineapple and lychee. For a brinjal lover like myself, I was delighted to see there were sautéed brinjal as well. For toppings there are bacon bits and white sesame as well as flavorful dressings.Feeling already satiated after a bowl of fresh salad, I was really very satisfied with the pasta I ordered. I had the shrimp and mushroom with Onsen Egg pasta in tomato sauce. The noodles was cooked al-dente and the tomato cream sauce was full of flavour. The addition of an Onsen Egg on top added extra oomph and moist to it The portion was too big for me and I was full to the brim already halfway eating.I was very satisfied with the food quality here and the lunch deal was a good one. I would definitely head back here for the pasta and salad too! ^^ However I have noticed that most of the other branches actually don't have the salad counter, so the salad was actually served from the kitchen and what you will get is just some lettuces, tomatoes and carrot shreds …Read More

The best Chai Tea Latte
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
2014-02-26
Talking about Tea Latte, I am always on the look out for good Chai Tea Latte. I have tried the Chai Tea Latte from Starbucks, Tea Dot, Chaiholics, Coffee Bean and Spinelli. My verdict is Coffee Bean has so far the best Chai Tea Latte so far!The Chai taste is strong yet of course not overpowering. I am most disappointed with the Starbucks rendition as the Chai taste was too mild and if one were to ask for richer taste it would be then too sweet as its Chai powder is already pre-mixed with sugar.Have a cuppa of Chai, aromatic and flavourful, best taken when it is piping hot. Its flavorful spice coupled with warm skimmed milk leaves a nice warm aftertaste. Enjoy a wonderful Chai-time with a slice of cake, biscotti or cookies to go along!! ^^ (on a side note, the Matcha Tea Latte is another good option for a mildly sweet soothing hot drink )…Read More

Mediocre Hong Kong Cuisine food
Canton Paradise
2014-02-25
Canton Paradise offers Hong Kong cuisine, ranging from DimSum, Wanton noodles, Congee to meat and vegetable dishes. Among all the usual common dishes in the menu, it is the Crispy BBQ Pork Buns which is actually the main reason why I like to frequent this place Headed to the branch at Jcube, the restaurant dining setting is very pleasant with comfortable cushion seats and spacious doing space.Ordered the Crispy BBQ Pork Buns ($4.80 for 3pcs), Seafood Hor Fun ($12.80), Fish Belly Congee and Taro with Chicken and Prawn Puff ($4.80 for 3pcs). The crispy buns were, in my opinion, comparable as those in Tim Ho Wan with its flaky crust and generous portion of Char Siew filling. The Taro puffs, on the other hand, were a total flop. When it was served, it was not hot but rather cold. It just failed to deliver the usual satisfaction which comes when one bites into a steaming hot puff. The filling was not flavourful with barely discernible amount of chicken and prawn meat inside. The Congee had a silky smooth texture but I think Crystal Jade has a better rendition of congee. The congee here tasted a tad too bland. The HorFun looked really appealing with its yellowish egg in the gravy. The noodles was slurpy smooth but gravy was not enough that some parts of the dish were dry. Some hits and misses but on the whole, food quality is average. Other dishes, except most of the DimSum items, are worth a try. But don't expect too much despite its slightly steep pricing. …Read More
