Graffiti
Graffiti Cafe
2012-12-28
I've only been in this outlet twice as I usually frequent the one at Cuppage Plaza (Somerset Area) more. I really like the place. It's dim. Almost grimy, in fact. Graffiti all over the walls and tables. I feel that this is one of the best ways to showcase the works of local graffiti artists without getting into any form of legal trouble. After all, graffiti hasn't really been accepted not only in Singapore but all over the world. Simply put, it's illegal. Just imagine how much time and how many people see those artworks daily! The service in this outlet wasn't really as fast as the one at Cuppage Plaza. I noticed that the staff here were younger and less experienced while the ones at Cuppage Plaza were really more seasoned. Believe me, I eat there at least 5 times a month. Hence, it's easy to say that what they offer at Cuppage Plaza is simply superior to the one at Far East.I also observed that because the counter (where you order and pick up your food) was so high, shorter (in height) customers have trouble ordering and picking up their food. Well, it does not affect me, right? Why care? In the end, I just really want my bowl of Wanton Noodle! …Read More

Fruit Overload
Fruit Paradise - Tokyo Walker
2012-12-27
It was my first time at Fruit Paradise. Overall, I would say I'm quite impressed even though I only really had a slice of Mixed Fruits Tart.I couldn't be bothered to inspect what are the different fruits that make up this tart! Anything that looks that good should be downed immediately! What really impressed me was the freshness of the fruits. Gives me a reason to think that the makers of this particular tart only believes in using the freshest fruits available. I was eating the tart really quick so I got a shock when I hit the jackpot! Grapefruit. Man, that fruit is really sour. I thought it was really smart to include grapefruit in the tart. It was somewhat a very cheeky surprise. I really liked it there. I'm coming back this weekend!…Read More

Kimchi Beancurn Udon
Just Acia
2012-12-27
As much as I love to eat rice, I do enjoy its noodle counterpart. I really enjoyed the Kimchi Beancurd Udon! It was really enticing. I believe it is the cheapest full meal available in the restaurant. I don't really fancy kimchi or any dish infused with kimchi. But this particular noodle/soup was just too good. The noodles were cooked just nice. It wasn't soggy compared to the noodles I've had in the past from other Japanese/Korean stalls/restaurants. The amount of beancurd included was sufficient. The texture was great. It was smooth and very neutral. It wasn't soft like the beancurd I've had from other places that made me feel like I'm actually eating cream puff. I sure didn't touch the green beans, though!…Read More

PRAWNY PRAWNY NIGHT
PRAWNY PRAWNY NIGHT
Just Acia
2012-12-27
I had Christmas dinner here with my girlfriend. The restaurant and its wide variety of food to choose from isn't entirely foreign to me. But hey, there's always an opportunity to try the whole menu, right? So, that night I tried the ebi prawn with egg, cheese, and mayonnaise, and tomato sauce. On the side, there was kimchi and miso soup. The portion of the meal was just right. It didn't exactly filled my stomach but it also didn't not make me ask for more. There were three prawns in total, and god they were cooked so well. The amount of tomato sauce, cheese, mayonnaise were minimal. Certainly, didn't drown the rice.I really think, the catch of this restaurant isn't entirely due to the food but the free flow of drinks and ice cream! It was a shame, though, that I was to full to try all the flavours of ice cream.I'm not a big fan of kimchi so I didn't touch at all. The miso soup was nothing special really but it was good enough that I was able to down it. Overall, my experience was good one. I can see myself coming back. Tonight maybe? :)…Read More

McDonald's

I frequent this particular outlet at Scape building. And I must say of all the McDonald's outlet in the island, this is by far my favorite. First off, the youthful atmosphere in the restaurant is really strong. Largely due to the fact that it is located at Scape - Singapore's Youth Hub. Expect the noise, the loud laughter, and the constant chatter of testosterone fueled teenagers. Inevitable. My last visit here was 3 days before Christmas at around 6pm. As expected, it was crowded. Way too crowded, in fact. Fortunately, the restaurant's staff were fast and efficient in taking customers' orders, settling them, and finally passing them to us, hungry people! There must have been 5 more people with large orders before me. But I kid you not, it took no longer than 5 minutes for me to order, wait, and get my food. Them getting my 'Special Order' right was great, too. And when I asked for extra cup of ice, I wasn't let down. The whole vibe of the restaurant and its surrounding makes come back. Not to mention that it is also always clean and the staff won't let you down. They're all smiles all the time.If you love the noise, cheap food and loud but friendly environment , make sure you head down to McDonald's at Scape!…Read More

Sakura International Buffet Restaurant

I don't really favor going to buffets. Primarily because I can't eat that much. It's not at all worth what I pay for.So I usually claim my money's worth by grabbing only the best of the best. Usually done by attacking the pricey seafood. I actually can't remember eating anything else but strictly chicken satay, lamb and crabs that night. The crabs were huge and fresh! If I'm not mistaken that was the special of the night. Huge crabs! It's a shame that we had to sit outside and make use a small table. In a buffet setting I seriously think that it's ridiculous to have a such a small table for two person. Other than that I really can't complain about anything else. The staffs were attentive and friendly! Good food!…Read More

Long John Silver's
2012-12-24
My girlfriend and I were actually on the way to Cuppage Plaza to get Wanton Noodles that night. But LJS' ad captured our attention. 2 for $10? Hmmm, why not, right!?Cheap, fast, and will definitely fill our empty stomachs. After all that's what we're looking for!So I proceeded to order our food. I can't clearly remember the names of those meals. There were chips, fish, chicken and shrimp! All fried to perfection. Gold! How I love my junk food gold!Oh did I mention everyting was fresh and crispy? The 'HUSHIES' were awesome! O man, are they some kind of onion donuts!? Definitely a winner!…Read More

Steak and Combo
Pepper Lunch Express - Food Republic
2012-12-24
With the word 'express' in the restaurant's name, I really didn't expect much. To make it worse, there were only two people tending the stall and God, the queue was long. Well, I must admit those two people working that day totally blew my mind. They were fast, attentive and despite the crowd and the rush, the cashier/helper maintained her friendliness. I ordered the Pepper Steak Combo. I was really impressed. The portion of the meat they served me that day corresponds to what the picture depicts. Unlike other restaurants who show a nice and big slice of beef in the picture and then when you get your steak, TADA! Size of a McDonald's Hamburger patty. I like my steak thoroughly cooked and to my surprise the hot plate was able to do it with ease and quick! The corn and beansprouts cooked perfectly, too.Overall, everything was great. The workers, the food, and the environment. I'll definitely come back.*google images…Read More

Burger King

I had my dinner here after a long day of walking around this part of town. The restaurant was really small and crowded. Crates of hamburger buns were blocking the way. I also observed that the kitchen was very dirty. I think they were kitchen equipment/objects submerged in some form of cleaner. Very unhygienic, indeed! Anyway, I was very intrigued by the burger shots. Two tiny hamburger served at one go. My expectations at that time was high, looking back on my past experiences with other BK outlets. Hence, it came as a shock to me when I opened up my burgers. They were tiny. Dry. It was horrible. Almost inedible!Good thing there were fries and a serving of ice cream to accompany those tiny burgers. And yeah, the workers in there were friendly. But seriously food wise, a big thumbs down! …Read More

Ya Kitchen - Ya Fu Fried Rice
Miniwok Delights - Food Republic
2012-11-30
My girlfriend and I frequent this stall on the 5th level of 313@Somerset (Food Republic). I love fried rice! Hence, when my girlfriend showed me the menu my first instinct was to look for section that has all the fried rice. In total, if I'm not mistaken Ya Fu has about 4-5 different kinds of fried rice. I tried their main one, which is Ya Fu fried rice. A bowl costs $4.30 and I must say it's really worth it!Why? Number one, the amount of rice they cook for you is massive. I'm a big rice-eater! So I definitely appreciate that. Number two, it tastes great! Often, fried rice that I purchase from other places are either too salty or 'almost' plain. But in Ya Fu, the balance is really good. Number three, there's fried chicken bits in it! Oh man, I can't even explain in words how awesome this is. Fried rice and fried chicken? - Perfect combo for my taste buds! Number four, the service is really good. You are greeted with a big smile. And yeah? Did I mention, very polite and friendly attendant/cashier?Number five, the environment is awesome. Stall attendants enticing you to try their food. People walking around with their trays full of food. 'Drink-aunties' walking around with their trollies full of fruit juices. …Read More

Sotong Balls LAH!
Old Chang Kee
2012-11-30
It's almost dinner time. You're hungry and your stomach is making all making crazy sounds, almost singing to let you know "eh! it's time to eat! But the person you're gonna have dinner with is nowhere in sight. Uhhhh how now?Pay a visit to old chang kee! They have a wide selection of fried delights, light enough to at least keep your tummy from rumbling till your date arrives. Usually, I'd get sotong balls. Fried sotong balls!!!! The mixture used to create the balls is perfect. Not too fishy, hence it's safe to say your date won't faint the moment you open mouth telling her it's okay when she explains why she's late. Oh yes, don't forget the chili! …Read More

Kill the Hunger Pangs
KFC
2012-11-30
I visit this outlet on a regular basis. This is especially true when I go skateboarding on the weekends. Usually in between lunch and dinner I get terribly hungry. I usually look for something light and what's the best way to kill the hunger pangs!? Head to KFC. For less than four dollars, I get 4 shrimp stars, fries and a drink! It's light, cheap, and gets me going until dinner!…Read More

Food for the cold!
Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks
2012-11-30
It is raining and you're cold. You put on layers of tshirts, a jacket, and your wool (okay, that's a tad too much), but it still can't keep you warm, I suggest you head to the nearest Shihlin near you. Hands down, they've got the best Oyseter Mee Sua I've ever! To be honest, I hated Mee Sua until I had Shihlin's. Now, I'm in love with it. For three dollars and eighty cents, you get a bowl of heavenly oyster mee sua! Mixed in it is parsley, finely chopped chicken, chili and how can I forget! The three fresh oysters swimming on top! Ciao! I need to get my bowl now. …Read More

HOTDOGS FOR LIFE!
Ikea Hot Dog
2012-11-30
It's end of the month. You have a girlfriend. You wanna go out on a date with her. But bro, you're going broke. Oh so sad! HAHA.No worries! IKEA is there to save you. There's a mega store filled with things you like but can't buy. So what, right? At least, you can walk around in there holding hands with your loved one. Might not be the best thing but it works for me and my girlfriend! And the best part is there's a hotdog stand waiting for you guys right after that leg-numbing walk in the store. For just $2 you get a hotdog in a bun, a drink, and ice cream on cone! I don't see how anyone could hate on that. If one serving isn't enough just take your coin purse out, spill out a dollar or two and get a couple more hotdogs! Fill your stomachs with 'em IKEA hotdogs! …Read More
