Review on Streats Hong Kong Café @ City Square Mal
Streats (City Square Mall)
2012-10-19
Review on Streats Hong Kong Café @ City Square MallWas pleased to know that this hong kong cafe is halal. Went out with my mother and had a fruitful time with her.The seating area is colourful & comfy. And you can see the exterior of the mall through the full windows.ServiceThis is a wait and you will be served kind of restaurant. Most of the waitresses are non-local. However, you will be given a notepad and a pencil to place your order. So no mis-communication there. The order came in a reasonable time. Suggested daysIt's usually not packed so I guess anytime of the day. Besides, there are a lot of seating area.Prices $$Its price is slightly pricey but since it's a restaurant, I guess it's okay. The siew mai and wanton are pretty good. The pows I had was normal. RatingI would give this 3/5. I won't go here often - probably for a special occasion.…Read More

Review on Oven Marvel
Oven Marvel

Review on Oven MarvelThis small shop offers the BEST muffin & softest curry puffs in SG! (in my opinion anyways)It's soft, melts in your mouth and will leave you speechless!ServiceThey are always friendly and sometimes they give you tips such as how long can these pastries last - especially if you bought like tons of boxes. Most of the consumers are working adults and they will buy in bulk (ta pao for colleagues I assumed) and also the design students from nearby schools like NAFA & La Salle. Because of that, most of the items are sold out. As a result, you will need to wait 15-30 mins for the next batch. However, you if wish to dine in or wait till the next batch comes out, you may sit at the available seating area outside their shop. There's one inside too but usually someone will be sitting there to cut their ingredients.Suggested daysAny other day than those with the number '8' in them (eg. 8, 18, 28). 'Caz these are the days that they are closed. Also, try to avoid peak hour - unless you don't mind waiting.Prices $$Muffins from $1.70Curry Puff $2.40Chicken Pie $3.20I know its rather steep for normal pastries like these but personally, its worth it. You gotta eat it while its hot 'caz its freshly baked and awesome! If you wish to keep it till you reach home, I suggest you heat it up abit but I doubt it taste the same as when it is fresh from the oven. RatingI would give this 4/5. If it a go once, and you will know what I'm talking about.Other varietiesChocolate chip muffinOrange peel muffinBanana walnut muffin…Read More

Fruit Paradise

Review on Fruit Paradise Café @ Raffles City Had this once with my friend and it was fruitful. No pun intended.ServiceIt wasn't crowded when we came in. The waitress served us straightaway and sent us to our table. However, she was persistent in getting our orders - even though we told her we will call her when we're ready. Minus points for that.Prices $$Per slice is about $6.90++. However, they do sell by whole too. Slightly pricey for my liking. But it does taste good (:More information here: http://www.ajisen.com.sg/fruitparadise/Promotion page here: http://www.ajisen.com.sg/fruitparadise/promotions.pdfRatingI would give this 3/5. Syam Corners Muslim Food
2012-10-18
Review on Syam Corners Muslim FoodHad this for years when I was attending NAFA. Even though it has been years since I graduated, I keep on coming to this shop 'caz it's just good for me! I would visit at least once every 2-3 months. Its quite a distance from my workplace but I make a point to come and visit here ServiceThere will be crowd from 10 o'clock onwards. So, prepare to queue. It's self-service so you just place your order while queuing - like any other hawker centres. The flow of customers goes by very fast so that's a bonus point for them. However, seating area are quite limited. Prices $$Since the shop is in town area, prices are slightly pricier. I bought rice + sambal fish + bagedil (round fried potato ball) +ikan bilis + sunnyside up egg = $6.10RatingI would give this 3.5/5. Oh. If you seat in the shop instead of outside, your shirt will stink. FYI.Other varietiesMee Siam, Lontong, Nasi Lemak, Mackerel Otah, etc.…Read More

Review on Barcelos @ Square 2
Barcelos
2012-10-18
Review on Barcelos @ Square 2Brought my boyfriend here for his advance birthday lunch. Good for people who loves chicken!Bought the groupon voucher and I say, it's damn worth it! :)However, I got lost getting to this place. When you exit to Novena Square, look out for Han's Cafe. Barcelos is in another building. Look out for Han's cafe, exit the building and you'll be in Square 2.ServiceGreeted when entering the premises.Just mentioned how many pax you have and they'll bring you to your table.Service was prompt and waitresses was attentive and friendly.Opening Hours10am – 9pm (Daily)Prices $$You can find the prices of the menu here (http://www.barcelos.com.sg/our-menu.php)But personally, I find it okay for a restaurant.I ordered chicken wrap, Twin Mixed Skewers & ala carte chicken soup & sauteed potato with mushrooms. The chicken wrap was good - similar to kebab. Enjoyed it very much. As for the skewers, the beef was a tad tough so I had to chew more to make it soft but the rest are fine. When the chicken soup was served, I was shocked to see how HUGE the size of the bowl is. That's an extra bonus for Barcelos! And not forgetting the sauteed potato with mushrooms. That, is a MUST MUST ORDER! Surprisingly good! However, its very oily and you'll probably be put off if you're keeping your weight in-check when you see the sea of oil below the bowl.RatingI would give this 4/5. Had a great dining experience despite the bad lighting - if you wish to take pictures. Spotlight was really bad. Either that, or it wasn't photogenic day for me Other varietiesI had supa peri for my chicken and it was awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwesome!Do prepare your choice of spicyness (Tangy Lemon - Lemon flavoured with herbs; Mild Peri - The first step on to the heat; Veri Peri - The heat just got hotter!; Supa Peri - Handle with care!!!) & your sides for your meal :)…Read More

Review on Q Essential (Bubble Tea)
Q Essential
2012-10-17
Apart from KOI and Gong Cha, this shop sells the same Taiwan Bubble Tea. I have been loyal to this brand until KOI & Gong Cha came along. What makes me stick to this shop is their loyalty card. You'll get a free drink once you've finishgetting all the chops.ServiceMost of the baristas are from China so for those non-chinese speakers, you'll have to mime out the things or just have your chinese friends with you or ask them to write it on a piece of paper but probably half of them can speak simple english. Today, however, I was served by an english speaking barista. He was prompted and friendly (the ahbeng-ish kind of way). They do deliver as well but only to a nearby area. While waiting for your drinks to be ready, be entertained by the choice of music played. :)Prices $$Drinks are from $1.30 - $6.20.I got myself a cup of regular milk tea that cost $2.30 & strawberry smoothie that cost $4.50.They do ask for your preference in sugar level, with or without pearl and size of your drink. RatingI'm cool with this place as it is convenient to come here so I give it 4/5.Currently, they only have one outlet. The one in bedok is close. They did mentioned they were going to open one in hougang area but I'm not sure if it's open yet.Other varietiesCheck out the pictures.…Read More

My boyfriend recommended this shop. He kept on pestering me to go 'caz he said it's worth it. So since we had free time, I went to check this stall out.ServiceHad an early dinner around 6pm. There wasn't much people here on a monday. This stall is the only halal stall among the rest in the food court. The lady serving us is an indonesian herself. Nothing much to comment. Everything else was normal.Prices $$As you can see from the pictures below, the prices are from $4.50 onwards. There are value set meals as well. It's quite affordable if you were to ask me. RatingThe sambal is awwwwwwwwwwwwwwesome! Spicy! Almost the same as Ayam Penyet Ria. So for those who craves for that, come by here! at a reasonable price Other varietiesNasi 'crazy' goreng (need to add a few $$ if you want super spicy), mee bakso, gado-gado, ikan bakar, ayam penyet, mee goreng, soto ambengan, soto betawi, etc.…Read More

Review on Le Potato
Le Potato
2012-10-17
Le Potato is a newly opened cafe joint in Bedok Point. It is located at the 3rd floor behind MOS burger. The space is quite squeezy. For muslims patrons, I got news from the spokesperson that their meat are from a halal supplier. They do not use any pork or lard or alcohol in their food. When I went there to eat, there was a muslim girl who was behind the counter, cooking. FYI.ServiceWent in for an early dinner on a saturday. There wasn't much of people and I'm guessing the reason is because it is in heartland area. Service was okay. Could have been more livelier but I guess they were tired. There were only 2 sales person there. However, currently, they are looking for people. Do check out their facebook (https://www.facebook.com/lepotatobedokpoint?fref=ts) for more information.Prices $$As you can see from the pictures, prices for chips or fries + 1 sauce = $2.90Add $1 to make it a combo i.e. a cup of drink.Prices for mashed potato is $2.50 & baked potato is $3.90RatingIt is nearby my area and I see myself patronising this place often It's simple yet yummeh! However, do take note that if you order addition sauce (add $0.50), fries will still be the same.I had to waste a good 1 tablespoon of sauce each. I feel so sad. :(I'm giving it 3.5/5.Other varietiesChips, fries, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes.…Read More

Review on All Good Things
All Good Things
2012-10-14
I've been wanting to look for cafes with good ambience, different from the normal kopitiam and hawker centres and just cosy enough for me. So I came across All Good Things one fine day and decided to give it a go.ServiceCame in about tea-time - 3pm-ish. Was greeted by the barista/waiter/sales person. Seats are limited though. Only can fit up to 6 pax inside and a couple of tables & chairs outside. They were very prompt and very eager to serve you - which can be a bit annoying if you don't like people on your tail. But for me, they are just fine. :)Prices $$Had Hummingbird cake (bread with banana & chunks of pineapple) at $6.50 per slice. Most cakes are of that price. I also had rose petal tea (S$4.00) & hot chocolate (S$5.00). You can find the prices of drinks under the picture. The rose petal tea really goes well with the hummingbird cake :)RatingDespite the prices being pricey (but then again, I can't complain - just look at the location!), I really enjoyed the food, tea and ambience. I give it 4/5. I'll probably come back here again in a few months time.Other varietiesMuffins, flourless chocolate cake, coffee walnut cake, frangipani apple tart, earl grey bread, etc.…Read More

Review on Burger King @ SimeiI was really craving for breakfast @ BK & from bedok, simei is the next nearest outlet.I could have gone to ECP but without means of personal car, it is quite out of the way.ServiceI went here on a friday morning @ around 915.There wasn't much crowd (thank god!) and I was serve instantly.Service was okay. I guess since it's not peak period, other crew probably went on a break or have yet to come for morning shift. Suggested daysI don't often come to BK in the morning so I guess best to just stick to non-peak period.Prices $$The meal that I ordered was $7.45 but I didn't want to have hot tea so I traded mine with Sjora Mango Peach drink that cost another 60 cents. Quite pricey for a breakfast meal huh? RatingThe illustration on the menu and what you get aren't exactly alike. My hotdog shranked & the omelette, well, mediocre.Croissant was slightly buttered and the tomato, well, tomato!Other varietiesYou can see more on their website at www.burgerking.com.sg or take a look at my pictures. G.S.Oli Thosei & Food Stall
2012-06-08
Review on Thosei @ G.S.Oli Thosei & Food StallI personally like the Appam & the Thosei here! ServiceDuring the weekends, you will see queues stretched from this stall. They have 3 queues - take-aways & eating here. (right & left respectively) & on the extreme left would be the prata queue - so do take note! I would say they are service is fast. The longest waiting time would be about 10mins (for eating here).Suggested daysAgain, Geylang Serai is always packed on weekends & weekdays lunch hour. Other than that, it's fine :)Prices $$During the weekends, they serve Masala Thosei with chicken @ $2.80You won't get this during the weekdays.Appam is at $2 per set (2 appams and a scoop of red sugar)RatingI do enjoy the food here. So I'm giving it 3.8/5.But if you're thinking of going here in the early morning (around 7) for a prata, I suggest you get a smaller change. They don't even have a change for $10! Review on Kacang Pool MustafaA Malay porridge-like dish of Middle-Eastern origin made with broad beans or kidney beans.ServiceThe man serving is the chef. It's usually a one-man show but during the weekends, he'll get a helper.Suggested daysGeylang Serai is forever packed during the weekends. The same goes for lunch hour during weekdays but its not as bad as the weekend. I would suggest to go early in the morning. It should be ready by 7am. :)Prices $$$2.50 for Single Egg & Bread$2.80 for Double Egg & Bread(I think there's additional charge for take-aways)RatingI would say this taste good than another stall selling Kacang Pool at the other aisle.I would give it a 3.3/5.You can pick your own condiments too! & they use healthier oil & salt! Review on Tong Seng Coffee Shop
Noodle Stall - Tongseng Coffee Shop
2012-06-08
Review on Noodles @ Tong Seng Coffee ShopServiceThe waiters and waiteresses will be prowling at the edge of their shop - staring right into your eyes and assuming you will be eating there by shouting the number of pax - "5 ah? makan?" Once you're seated, menu will be placed on your table and you are given 1 minute to decide (which can be QUITE annoying especially when you're indecisive). The workers here are very fast & furious. Your food & drinks will be served within 3 minutes and you have to pay straight away - so prepare your change. It's best if you pay your own cause when you pay for your friends, they will reluctant to give a change for 5 pax!Suggested daysIt's often packed with tertiary students, young adults and families on a weekend. But in the weekdays, the crowd will be mostly working adults during peak hours like lunch & dinner. If you are uncomfortable to share your table with some strangers, I guess you don't come here during peak hours.Prices $$A bowl of noodles starts form $3.Drinks are about $1.20 each.Side dishes like siew mai starts from $3.RatingI would give this 2.5/5. Despite it being "unhygienic", its reasonable and filling. Review on Mee Goreng Mamak (Fried Yellow Noodle - Indian Style) @ Fazil Muslim Food StallServiceThis is a self-service eatery. Waiting time is average around 5-10mins.It can be longer during peak hours especially lunch hour - where the office people come and eat here. You can also add some additional items such as fried fishball/otah/hotdog/etc. to your mee goreng - at an additional cost of course!Suggested daysI often visit this place for lunch time and it is usually packed during lunch hours. After 2, the crowd starts to die down. An advice from my indian friend: Order your mee goreng when the wok is still hot! Prices $$1 plate of mee goreng is $3. & that's a good price. Nowadays, its hard to get a plate for $2.50 so if you ever get a plate for $3, be thankful Usually, an extra item like sunny-side up is 50 cents. I ordered my mee goreng with a mixture of yellow noodle & bee hoon noodle. You can request for that as well and at the same good price of $3! Yellow noodle can make you feel qualmish easily. RatingI would give this a 3.8/5.I really like spicy food & their spicyness is OOMPHABLE. Review on Chicken Rice @ U Taste Restaurant TampinesYou don't have to starve yourself when you're broke. This eatery will bring happy tears to your eyes!ServiceThis is a self-service eatery. So, it's best to chope a place to sit first because it might get packed during peak hours. There are quite a variety to choose from but I will be talking about the chicken rice stall. There are 3 to choose from: Steam, roasted & cutlet.*Do say out your order loud and clear. If not, you will get your order wrong - especially if you're buying bulk order during peak period. The uncle is okay and is pretty fast in serving. You can also add some additional items such as fried fishball/otah/hotdog/etc. to your meal.Suggested daysI guess any day is okay. Its just that you need to know which timing to avoid. Since it's in the heartland area, students/working adults/families will be patronizing this eatery as it is cheap and filling. Its best to just tapao (take-away).Prices $$1 plate of chicken rice is $2.For the chicken cutlet, you can choose either lemon or mayonaisse sauce or neither (your choice)Others are reasonable as well. Can get a meal under $4. (including drinks)RatingI would give this 3.2/5. The cons about this place is that during peak hour, the cleaners won't be able to clean most of the table and if you did not chope a seat, you might be reluctant to sit at the dirty table.
