Deep fried prawn dumpling
Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant
2012-09-26
I went to Nanxiang for some Dim Sum. The deep fried prawn dumpling was one of the chef's recommendation selection in the restaurant. It costs $4.50 for 3 pieces. The prawn dumpling's crust is very thin and crispy. Its not too oily and has a nice flour taste. The prawn used is very fresh and meaty. It was very crunchy, sweet and juicy. Additionally, the prawn dumplings are relatively big in size which somewhat justifies the price along with its taste. I personally really liked the deep fried prawn dumplings. They are probably the best I've had in Singapore so far. Strongly recommended! …Read More

Peking duck
Grilled fish fillet with white sauce
Saizeriya
2012-09-26
I decided to have dinner at Saizeriya. I had the grilled fish fillet with white sauce. The grilled fish is very well cooked. It was soft and moist. It goes well with the white sauce, which was not too thick. I finished the entire thing without getting sick of the sauce. It comes along with the sweet corn and some fried potatoes. The fried potatoes are not oily and in fact a little dry. It costs only $7.90 inclusive of GST and service charge. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the standard for the price. …Read More

Okonomoniyaki Gyoza
Bishamon
2012-09-26
Bishamon offers several interesting gyozas. I decided to try the Okonomiyaki gyoza. It costs $6.80 for 6 pieces and $11.00 for 10 pieces. The pan-fried dumplings are topped off with the toppings of a typical okonomiyaki. It has the brown sweet sauce, which was moderately sweet. Also, there was the bonito flakes and spring onion. Overall, the combination was pretty average. The sweet sauce does overpower the taste of the gyoza. However, it did taste good so I wouldn't mind having it again. …Read More

Fried chicken curry rice
Butterscotch cookies
Famous Amos
2012-09-14
Walked past famous amos and couldn't resist the smell of the cookies. I decided to try the butter scotch cookies for the first time. As usual, the famous amos cookies had the nice baked smell and very crispy. The butter scotch cookies are actually way less sweeter than the chocolate flavoured cookies. I especially liked the mixture of the taste of chocolate chips and a slight butter taste. I would totally recommend these bite sized cookies to people on the go. They are tasty and convenient. I bought 200gm so it cost me $9.20. …Read More

Curry chicken chop
Central Hong Kong Café
2012-09-14
This restaurant is opened not long ago, replacing the Jia Xiang Mee in Jurong Point. The menu mainly lists the food items with minimal visual aids. Didn't know what to expect when I ordered for the curry chicken chop. Unexpectedly, its just a bowl of rice with a bowl of curry. The curry is pretty diluted and tastes similar to local curry. The potatoes used were pretty powdery, the ones that I dislike. However, the chicken was coated with a certain kind of flour which I like before fried. To many it may be salty but I really like the taste of the chicken. Also, it went well with the curry. It was filling but definitely not too satisfying. It has very little meat and personally I really didn't like the curry taste along with my rice. It costs $7 for this excluding the taxes. Also, do take note that they charge for their plain water (30 or 50 cents, can't remember accurately)…Read More

Seafood yaki soba
Yaki Yaki Bo Teppanyaki
2012-09-12
I went to yakiyakibo for dinner and ordered for the seafood yaki soba. This is my favourite food item in the restaurant. It is Japanese style fried noodles. The yellow noodles are very springy and no stinky "yellow noodles smell". There is a sweet sauce used for the dish which sticks to the noodles. Its not too sweet and is a perfect complement. The seafood used is very fresh. Overall, it is very delicious and filling. I have had it several times and have been recommending it to people. Costs only $11.90. …Read More

Grand Sampler
ASTONS Specialities
2012-09-12
I was at Bugis+ and decided to have the Grand Sampler at Astons for lunch. It costs $13.90. It comes with four kinds of sausages. Some uses chicken meat, others uses pork. The sauce that comes alone is same/similar to the sauce they use for their mashed potatoes. The sausages were very good, with a really crispy outer skin. In fact when I took a bite out of one of the sausages, there was a "POP!" sound in my mouth that surprised my friends. The insides are very juicy. Overall, these sausages are very well cooked with great taste. I personally prefer to eat it plain without the sauce. I would totally have it again. …Read More

Fishball noodles
Fishball Noodle - Banquet
2012-09-12
This stall is opened recently and I decided to have the fishball noodles for lunch. Their service is very fast and good. It was ready within a minute. Really appreciate fast service like this. The fishball noodles is really good. The noodles don't have the stinky noodles smell and its very springy. The soup isn't too oily and has a just-nice taste. The fishballs are fresh and sweet. Costs only $3.50. Overall I liked it and has already had the fishball noodles at this stall thrice. Probably the best fishball noodles in Jurong Point as of right now. …Read More

Peking duck
Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant
2012-09-12
Went to Nanxiang for lunch. Ordered for half a roasted peking duck. The peking duck is served in 2 different plates. One of is is the duck skin, wrapped in egg crepe. It comes with a special sauce which is very strong tasting and sweet. My family like it but I didn't so its probably up to personal preference. The other plate served the duck meat, which is covered in Kobe BBQ sauce. Its moist and sweet. We tried having both the skin and the meat together in one mouthful and it is delicious that way. It costs only $35. Wouldn't mind going back for the peking duck again. …Read More

Deep fried prawn dumpling
Fried chicken curry rice
Bishamon
2012-09-12
Was at Great World City and decided to dine at Bishamon for lunch. Ordered for the fried chicken curry rice which costs $12.50. It comes with a side salad too. The rice isn't Japanese rice but at least its pretty moist. The curry is Japanese curry but its not as thick as the Japanese curry served at other Japanese restaurants. However, it was sweet and tasty. Although the fried chicken does look dry, it was actually very moist on the inside. It goes well with the curry. In addition, they gave a generous serving of chicken. Overall it was very filling and pretty acceptable. Wouldn't mind going back again. …Read More

Okonomoniyaki Gyoza
Italian flavour cheese chicken steak
Saizeriya
2012-09-12
Decided to have dinner at Saizeriya. The restaurant has surprisingly low priced dishes for a restaurant. The lowest main dish is only $3.90, NETT! I decided to order for the italian flavour cheese chicken steak which costs only $6.90 (nett). The chicken is topped off with cheese and sauce. There is tomato stuffing between the skin and the meat of the chicken. The chicken can be pretty dry at certain parts but the ketchup inside did help me handle the dryness. Overall, the chicken is pretty average and they could have used more sauce. The corn itself is very sweet and not oily. The potato wedges taste just like normal fries but way less oily. It was filling and really cheap. A perfect place to dine for those who want a low cost meal. …Read More

Carbonara pasta
AKB48 Cafe
2012-09-12
Went to AKB48 cafe for lunch. Ordered for the carbonara pasta since the picture on the menu looked really appetising. The actual thing is just like the picture, with a half cooked egg on top of the pasta. However, the pasta was disappointing. There was no egg taste at all when mixed with the pasta. It was like a typical carbonara pasta, slightly creamy. It does come with a generous serving of meat. Overall its relatively average and the only selling point is probably the half cooked egg. Considering that is costed me around $13+, it was definitely not worth it. Diners are probably going to pay more for the experience of dining in the idol cafe rather than the food. …Read More

Student meal - Oyakodon
Danish fish and chips
Fish & Co.
2012-08-28
Decided to celebrate after exams at fish & co. Tried the Danish fish and chips for the first time. The fillet is stuffed with stringy mozzarella and spices. Its then topped off with fish & co's lemon butter sauce. As usual, the fillet is not too oily and moist. The stuffing never disappoints, with generous amount of cheese in the fillet. As a cheese lover, I loved the combination of the fish and the cheese. However, as compared to other fish and chips offered, this is tasty but not as unique as other fish and chips. I won't mind having it again but if I'm looking for a more unique fish and chips this isn't the one. …Read More

Swiss Fish & Chips
Dinner buffet
Kuishin Bo - Shokutsu 10
2012-08-28
Decided to try the dinner buffet at Kuishinbo. It starts at 5:30PM and there was a queue starting from 5:00PM. Kuishinbo has a relatively wide variety of food for the buffet. There are sushi, teppanyaki, soba, oden, paper nabe pots, seafood such as crabs and scallops, gingseng porridge, desserts, and the list goes on. Unfortunately, even though its known that Kuishinbo has lobsters, they not only serve a limited amount of it, it is only served at approximately 7:00PM+. Unfortunately by then I was already full and running out of patience. Overall, the food is pretty much very average. Fresh, but no "OMG SO DELICIOUS" moment. I personally liked the snow crabs even though they weren't that tasty (I mean crabs are probably the only way for you to get back you money in their buffet). After the buffet, I wasn't quite satisfied with the dining experience and definitely do not see myself going back for the dinner buffet anymore. Its too expensive for a range of average and relatively cheap food for its price. It costs around $38.90 for one adult dinner buffet if you leave before 7:00PM. You'll be able to save $5 if you leave earlier. …Read More

Teriyaki Chicken Pasta
Swensen's
2012-08-27
Decided to have lunch at Swensen's. I had the student meal, which is only $9.80 for a food item (excluding main course and several pastas) and free flow of soft drink. Ordered for the Teriyaki Chicken Pasta and coke light. The Teriyaki Chicken Pasta is spaghetti with grilled chicken in teriyaki sauce, with the side of the veg-of-the-day. I requested for the veg to be removed and they offered to replace it with fries. (A service I believe many will appreciate)The chicken is tender and moist. However, the teriyaki sauce completely ruined the dish to the extent that I probably only had 20% of it. The teriyaki sauce tasted like black pepper sauce and is very bitter. Only thing that was of acceptable standard was the fries. Definitely will not recommend this food item to anyone but Swensens has good service and food variety so its still a good place to dine in as long as I don't encounter any more of such bitter food. …Read More
