Sukhothai Kitchen Authentic Thai Food
Sukhothai Kitchen Authentic Thai Cuisine
2013-10-22
Sukhothai Kitchen (formally known as Arroythai Kitchen) is located at Blk 408 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10. If you are the appetizer kinda person, you must let this dish stimulate your taste buds! The mango is very sour but extremely addictive with bites of onions in between.Do people describe prawn cakes as chewy meaty pieces? Probably not. Dipped in their thai fish & chilli sauces, this goes well ‘naked’ or with rice. It would be even better if the prawn taste can be more distinctive. Loads of garlic in this non-oily deep fried pork bites! I’m a garlic lover who loves the fragrant but not overwhelming garlic smell in this crispy meat dish. Cinemas should start selling this so I can replace it over popcorn.Thai food is never complete with some kick-ass Tom Yum soup! It’s amazing how a harmless clear soup can be so spicy! While you hiss from the spiciness, the sour aftertaste may just make you go back for more.Another must-have dish whenever people eat thai food! I usually avoid basil leaves at all cost but I find this dish palatable even though I ate it without rice. It wasn’t overly salty nor oily.I don’t know what sauce they put in there but that glass noodles soak it all up. All the flavors in the pot just went right into the noodles that is cooked exactly to my liking. In fact, the noodles might have just stolen the limelight of the prawns. The simmering is definitely worth the effort. Baked? Literally. When the steaming fish in its fish metal plate arrived at my table, I whiffed lime/lemon. That actually whetted up a little more space in my stomach. With minced garlic & chilli in tangy sauce, the sea bass is surely one of my favourite!READ FULL REVIEW: http://blog.myfatpocket.com/herine/sukhothai-kitchen-arroythai-kitchen-authentic-thai-food/…Read More

The outer part of the tuna is cooked, with a layer of pepper & herbs and leaving the insides raw like Sashimi. Extremely fresh & salivating.Mushrooms grinded, simmered & drizzled generously with truffle oil. I love this mushroom soup & wouldn’t stop feeding myself spoon after spoon! This curry pizza is so spicy but I worshipped it! It’s like a fusion of western pizza & Indian prata with Malay Nasi Briyani. Oh my… what has my description turned into? It’s a must try! This is something new! I am not someone who will order lasagna usually but this? Quite different. The seafood is very fresh & juicy. I will definitely try it again! When this was served, I was thinking: “Wow, this is huge. Probably the meat will be tough.”…. But no! It was simply marvelous! Even the fats tasted good. So tender & so well marinated, I can imagine why many people love to have this with some nice alcohol. With a single scoop of Haagen-Daz Macadamia Nut Ice Cream and hot apple in the crumble, this is a delight to the tongue!Read full review at: http://myfatpocket.com/herine/2013/05/02/grandstand-food-tasting-with-openrice-casallena-tapas-wine-bar-bistro/…Read More

Mookata Thai BBQ Steamboat
MooJaa
2013-05-02
Less than 5mins walk from Outram MRT, Moojaa is a great find!“Moo Ka Ta” literally means “pork skillet” in Thai. It’s created so that both BBQ and hot pot/steamboat can be enjoyed at the same time.*The refill of vegetables and all Ala Carte items is applicable for the Buffet Option only.A variety of meat & vegetables: Boneless chicken, prawns, pork balls, squids, scallops, crabmeats, abalone slices, golden mushroom, tang hoon (vermicelli), xiao bai cai & kang kong.Instead of coating the BBQ pan with oil/butter, a piece of pork lard was placed at the top center so that the oil will flow down to the sides to bbq other meat. The fragrance of bbq meat and the sweetness of the soup is heavenly! The meat are all very well marinated that even a non-pork lover like me found myself reaching for more pork belly.Lunch: Monday to Friday (11am – 2pm)Dinner: Monday to Sunday (5pm – 11pm)Read my full review here: http://myfatpocket.com/herine/2013/04/14/moojaa-mookata-thai-bbq-steamboat/…Read More

KungFu Paradise Presents All-Day Breakfast Bonanza
Kungfu Paradise
2013-04-05
KungFu Paradise recently launched a new “All-Day Breakfast Bonanza” promotion!7 different kinds of breakfast to choose from.I always tend to order this combo: fried eggs, cheese sausage, turkey bacon and toasted white bread. The safest set & definitely fulfilling. The sides comprised of sautéed button mushrooms, cherry tomatoes with pesto sauce and rocket salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Is using only rocket greens for the entire salad a right choice? Not many people can appreciate the bitter taste and it can be a lil too overwhelming.Check out other dishes' mouth-watering photos & full review here: http://myfatpocket.com/herine/2013/04/05/kungfu-paradise-presents-all-day-breakfast-bonanza-promotion/…Read More

So crispy and it wasn’t oily at all! If you are a calamari lover, you should order this when you are there. Oh yes, and they ain't shrunken like some other cafes serve.Love this indulgence of prawns, calamari, mussels and fish! If you know pasta, Marinara is made up of rich tomato and wine sauce. I told the friendly waiter that I like something spicy, so he suggested to send in a special order for me. Pasta Marinara with the sauce of Arrabiata (spicy sauce of garlic, tomatoes, wine and red chilli).I’m in love with this combination! The seafood was very fresh and the pasta was cooked perfectly. My friend ordered this with black pepper sauce. I love the sides – baby carrots, mash potato & long beans! The beef was done medium rare. She usually only eat her steaks near to well done as she is afraid of seeing and tasting blood. However, after trying this steak, she was surprised that she likes it too! They are open from 10.30am – 12.30am daily.Read the full post here: http://myfatpocket.com/herine/2013/03/26/iwannagetstuffed/…Read More

I Changed My Mind About Vietnam Food
Pho Stop
2013-03-15
I was at Pho Stop for a DIY summer roll making session.Definitely my first time "hands-on" & I was surprised that it tasted good with their special dip sauce! This fish cakes has turmeric powder in them and it really taste very fragrant & salty (the kind of salty that I like). Initially I thought it was curry powder and I am very very taken aback by this dish. I never know fish cakes can taste even more awesome than they already are!MUST TRY! Eat them when they are piping hot!Fried to a nice crispy texture but it isn’t too oily. I supposed the meat (or whatever content) inside has been marinated well before, hence the taste is released when you bite down into it. Dip it in their sauce and it is another kind of taste! Even though I am not a fried spring roll person, I like this dish.A healthy dish! I am already quite pleased with the amount of greens I see. The portion of grilled pork chop is also worthy for a meaty-diet person to try!A sauce in a small bowl is set aside for you to add in according to your preference. I added all of it after tasting a mouthful of the noodles mixed with half of the portion of sauce.Thick mee hoon (or bee hoon) is used for this dish. You can find thin shreds of cucumber and carrots inside. It somehow resembles achar and even though this is a main dish, it has the effects of a refreshing appetizer too!And of course, the taste has a blissful combination with the pork chop. I love it!The coffee aroma is strong and each mouthful of the ice cream perks me up just like my daily coffee dose!I tried the other flavors & I still like the coffee one. A traditional dripped coffee is the way to end a wonderful meal. I must remember to ask for much lesser condense milk the next time! I love my coffee a little bitter.rEAD MY FULL REVIEW AT: http://myfatpocket.com/herine/2013/03/14/pho-stop-i-changed-my-mind-about-vietnam-food/…Read More

Clear Tom Yum Soups are always so deceiving – They look so mild & harmless, but get you panting from the spiciness. The soup is served in a traditional charcoal steamboat, so classic! Tom Yum Goong tastes a lil sour, which is really appetizing!I love spicy food, I love soups & I love how hot & cheap this simply is. Same presentation as the Tom Yum Goong, but quite opposite in taste. In my opinion, it is as spicy as the above, but the “creaminess” (coconut) seemed to sooth the tongue a bit.Despite not being a fan of any creamy food or soups, I found myself reaching for a second serving. So crispy & perfectly done. It tastes like fried chicken bones – yes it’s as crunchy as that. This is the dish most people keep reaching out for. Definitely something I will order again the next time I visit.Pad Thai is one of the dishes that I MUST eat whenever I visit Thailand! This resembles stir-fried kway-teow, only that the noodles used in this is more springy. Are you a big eater? If no, I would suggest that you share this plate of Pineapple Fried Rice. The prawns are big & fresh. Cashew nuts & pork floss added a pleasuring taste to this! Check out the donald duck alike presentation! *hehe*The sticky rice is more sticky than any other I’ve tried in Thailand (only ate twice I think). I like!First time trying sticky rice with durian! Don’t judge by its appearance! Not a pretty sight, but it’s even better than the mango one!…Read More

Great Zi-char food
Two Chefs Eating Place
2013-01-31
Many zi-char places sell almost the same dishes. Nothing you wouldn't not expect. What makes them stand out will definitely be unique dishes. :)I have always prefer hot over cold food (except sashimi and soba), however I was amazed how good these can taste! The cockles weren’t overcooked nor undercooked.Lotsa garlic, spring onion & red chilli, with their soy sauce – THUMBS UP!Don’t belittle the normal appearance of this prawn balls with pork floss dish. It looked average but the taste buds had an experience that was nothing less than “brilliant”! This 3-eggs dish is a popular hit with most people.Love a combination of soup-gravy, eggs & vegetables? This goes well with or without rice as it wasn’t too salty as compared to some I tried elsewhere.Milk powder?? I swear I’ve never tried anything like this before. Pretty interesting, but I had phobia of milk powder.I do like the fried ribs alot. The milk powder was too sweet for me. I tried to shake the powder off before eating. Not a dish I would re-order for myself.Beancurd (Tofu) with golden mushroom and some minced meat in the rich brown gravy. This is the kind of dish I like to have with my rice. Not too salty, yet flavorful. …Read More

It's a lovely place in the neighbourhood! Not that easy to spot since it's situated at the corner of the HDB flat, but the good thing is... it's at the opposite end of the coffeeshops. I had expected MANY small pieces of mushroom, so when it was served, we were a lil disappointed thinking that the portion wasn’t what we expected, but after a bite, we were surprised! There – a layer of ham in between the Portobello mushroom and cheese, complete with refreshing salad at the side. This potato skin thingy is so worth it with beef & cheese! If you order this alone, you probably don’t have to order any more main dish! When the plate was set down, Bestie & her bf were all drooling at it. Cos it really smell delicious! The fish was very tender, fries nicely done & greens to go. *LOVE*Grilled chicken chop with seasonal vegetables, mushroom sauce & baked potato with cheese. Oh so yum! Here's my blogpost on this:http://myfatpocket.com/herine/2012/10/04/food-digs-i-wanna-get-stuffed/…Read More

Chinese food
PUTIEN
2013-01-29
A very chinese restaurant that I personally wouldn't have frequent if not because of the good reviews I've heard. This is the white Pu Tien Lu Mian that my best friend highly recommended. Seriously I have no idea that this kind of white lor mee can actually taste so nice! The gravy was sticky and it, together with all the ingredients sweetness sticked to the noodles. The fragrance of the seafood in that are just nicely brought out.(my friend himself had 3-4 bowls)I rate: 8/10On the left: Cabbage with tofu soup. It’s served in a black pot in the back of the photo. Enough to serve 3-4 pax. I totally love this soup & even had a 2nd helping. Even though I do not usually fancy soups with milk/cream added, this soup served at Pu Tien definitely changed my view.I rate: 8.5/10On the right: our appetizer, intestines. Well, i dunno how to make it sound nicer. But we were wondering what makes the 肠 (intestines) so Q & full. It’s actually stuffed with some kind of meat which we couldn’t figure out what was it.I rate: 7.5/10Fried Yam Duck with their own sweet sauce.I personally didn’t like yam stuff, but this is really well done.I dipped it in their own chilli sauce & it’s delicious!I rate: 7/10…Read More

The shop is very small, not ideal when there were 7 of us. Located at 2nd floor.Beef burger, juicy and tender. Nothing much to pick about. This pasta resembles mee-pok. Tasted more like an asian dish than western. Not too bad if it really is prawn mee-pok dry.Soft Shell crab pasta, or rather mee-kia. The pasta were slightly over-cooked and the soft shell crab could have been more crispy. Average taste, nothing fantastic.Breakfast set. Obviously, they don't specialize in breakfast food as the bacon was too hard to even bite off and the rest on the plate is similar to what I can make. Maybe I am a pretty good cook! (LOL)Dad loved this lamb shank. It didn't have the odor most mutton/lamb shanks have and I love how the meat is so soft and placed over mashed potato, garnished with some carrots and greens.…Read More

Salt grill & Sky bar
2013-01-28
The view at level 55 & 56 of ION is magnificent. At Salt Grill & Sky bar, not only your mouth feeds... your eyes too.Kingfish sashimi which tasted really tangy. I finished every slice of it though it got too oily & overwhelming after a few slices.Love this Truffle oil and parmesan french fries! A tad dry but still addictive! The Broccolini with confit eschallot was too big a stalk that I found myself having a hard time to cut it without making too much noise. Eventually I gave up cos I didn't want other guests to stare at me.A dainty portion. The skin of this grilled spatchcock puts me off a little as the skin is on the fair side. The taste was lovely but still, I didn't finished it as I had a hard time getting the meat off the bone.Have no idea what is this dessert called, but it just ain't to my liking at all. It's moussy, tasted like extremely sweet green tea powder plus other things that I can't figure out what it is. The only edible thing is the egg roll biscuit on top. …Read More

Good place to settle my steamboat/soup craving, but not recommended if you are a slow eater or plan to have a mini gathering/catchup with friends as they limit eating time to 100 minutes.Great variety of vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, meatballs & garnish.Few types of soup base to choose from.Udon goes well with kimchi soup!I prefer beef over chicken! There is pork too."Invent" your own dipping sauce. Raw egg recommended so that the beef will have a smooth texture to it!Love the cheese meat ball but be careful not to bite into it too fast as it can be scalding and spill out.Decorate your own ice cream after a fulfilling dinner.…Read More

Relatively new mall just beside Expo MRT, hence the shop is new & clean. They have an interesting variety of sushi that we may not see around much.Crispy Tuna sushi is so crunchy outside and full of tuna goodness & topped with ebiko!!Ham, egg & cucumber wrapped with cheese! This sure will be kids' favourite!Golden Catch is a MUST TRY!A combination of dory fish, potato, tartar sauce and lettuce. OMG so yummy please! The crispy shreds you see are potato & it’s surprisingly delicious.Yakiniku (beef) & Fried Fish handrolls! I don’t know how the fish one tasted like; my Yakiniku handroll is fine. Nothing very spectacular (My taste buds has high standards though not fussy) but not too bad and I may just order the next time I go there.Yellow Submarine = crab stick, shrimp roe, mayonnaise and spring onion.Since when crab stick taste so good?! Love the name they gave this sushi!Ham & Cheese! Interesting but I couldn’t put the whole sushi into my mouth! The taste is fine, nothing spectacular or unusual that you can't imagine with these ingredients.Grilled salmon with their house special sauce. Each slice of the salmon is so fat & delicious!
