Sliced Beef Noodle Soup & Fried Rice with Seafood
So Pho (JEM)
2013-06-28
Saw this new outlet at JEM so decided to try it as the queue was the shortest too. We were promptly shown a table and order was taken. So, decided to take some photos to show the environment of the restaurant as the decorations are quite nice.Food came very quickly despite the restaurant being packed. Great service! Sliced Beef, Brisket & Beef Balls Noodle Soup. $9.80++The first time I ate Vietnamese Beef Noodles was 10 years ago, in San Jose, the owner himself is a Vietnamese who immigrate to San Jose and opened a shop there. Till today, I remembered the taste of it & I dare to say, this sliced beef noodle soup at So Pho has almost the exact same memorable taste!! Noodle comes with fresh mint leaves, cilantro leaves, basil leaves, bean sprouts, a slice of lime and sliced chilli. Kudos to staffs who took the time to pluck both ends of the beansprouts - end results: clean-looking beansprouts! The mint leaves & lime gives the dish a refreshing taste, the half-cooked beansprouts gives the dish a crunch & the sliced chilli gives the dish just a tinge of spiciness. It is just superbly delicious & wonderful. Needless to say, I finished every single morsel & drop of soup. I will definitely be back to eat more of it!! :bowl:Moreover, given that the price is about $10 per bowl, quality & quantity of this dish is definitely value for money!! …Read More

Poached Cheesy Dory
The Manhattan FISH MARKET
2013-06-22
My colleague & I went to The Star Vista for lunch as we were working nearby. Was thinking what to eat and we saw that Manhattan Fish Market is having a promotion on their limited-time-only menu. Poached Cheesy Dory ($15.95++)The description on the menu sounds super delicious! "Creamy cheese oozing from the poached dory fillet, drizzled with spicy cream sauce, accompanied by wholesome broccoli and carrots." I was overwhelmed by the fact that this dish has dory fish & cheese! that I didn't realized that it has spicy sauce drizzled over it. I can't take anything spicy. Nevertheless, after scraping the spicy sauce away, the combination was delicious. Will definitely be back to have it again WITHOUT the spicy sauce.Cala Cala ($5.50++)Customers who ordered from their limited-time-only menu gets to choose any mocktail with a top-up of $4. Once again, the description blew me away "Refreshing combination of calamansi and lemonade for a citrus fizzy sensation.". Calamansi & lemonade are two of my favourites! . However, BEWARE! The sourness of this drink is not to be trifle with!Overall, a very nice lunch! Till next time! …Read More

Salmon & Ikura Cream Udon,
MOF @ My Izakaya
2013-06-22
My family & I always order salmon sashimi whenever we go to any Japanese restaurant. Was quite disappointed that they have decided to be stricter on the 3 kinds of sashimi. It has to be 3 DIFFERENT kinds now as we used to be able to place order for salmon sashimi only.Nevertheless, as my dad is the kind that has to have his salmon sashimi, we still ordered.Salmon Sashimi.2 servings in 1 bowl. They are nicely chilled thick slices. Only thing is that we need to always remember to ask for more wasabi and saucer.MOF has quite a number of promotions being rolled out throughout the year. This seasonal promotion is one of them. I believe it might end roughly around August as that is when Autumn is coming.Salmon & Ikura Cream Udon with Char Siew Rice. ($14.80++)From the seasonal promotion, I ordered the salmon & ikura cream udon. I love the combination of udon, cream soup and roe. The roe bursting in my mouth is just simply delightful & the thickness of the udon is just right for the consistency of the cream soup. I just can't get enough of this dish. Hopefully, the will put in on their regular menu! With the udon, comes with char siew rice. It is quite a ordinary rice don with meat and spring onion on it. Unagi Salad. We placed order for another salad but after very long it didn't come, in the end, it was out of stock. We were quite disappointed as we were looking forward to try it. The manager, Albert, was very nice. He offered to replace it with any salad on the menu and even charged us at the price of the salad that we initially ordered. Well done to manager Albert!! Personally, I don't really fancy the taste of unagi. Maybe it is the idea of eating eel.. The image of the 2 sinister-looking eels in The Little Mermaid popped into mind.. Eww.. The chef didn't prepare it well enough as there were bones that looks like fins in the salad.Overall, it was quite a pleasant dining experience & we will definitely be back. …Read More

Mango Pomelo Sago
Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert
2013-06-18
After dinner, we went for dessert. The new outlet at JEM was having a promotion on their best-selling.The space was relatively small & tables were next to one another with little space for movement. People walking pass nearly bumped into us a few times. One of my favourite dessert: Mango Pomelo Sago (promotion price of $2+)There were only about 4 cubes of mangoes and bits of pomelo. Sago were relatively more probably cause it is cheaper. :/ The consistency of it was very weak with little mango puree.I felt that they were not generous enough with the ingredients considering this is one of their best-seller desserts. There is no service charge as customers has to place order at the counter.Overall, it was still quite alright as I love mango pomelo sago. However, I just felt that they could have done more.…Read More

Cha Shu Tonkotsu Ramen & Butariki Ishinabe
RamenPlay
2013-06-18
This is the first time my husband & I went to Ramenplay for dinner at their newest outlet. The area was quite spacious and there were quite a number of tables available but customers were not sit promptly. Probably cause there wasn't enough staffs & it won't be nice to bite off more than they can chew when they can't attend to customers' requests. While queueing, I took a picture of the store frontWe were shown to our seats & orders were placed. While waiting, we took more photos of the surrounding & menu.Food came rather quickily given that there were only about 3 chefs in the open-concept kitchen.Cha Shu Tonkotsu Ramen ($12.80++)The cha shu isn't very fatty. I don't have to separate the fats from the meat! The soup is light & flavourful just like how tonkotsu broth should be. I specially love how this place provides self-grinded sesame to add into the soup. Needless to say, I finished every single drop of the soup & scrapped the bottom of any bits left out. This might just be my next favourite place for ramen! Butariki Ishinabe ($13.80++)As it is prepared in a hot stone bowl, my husband's order took slightly longer to come which is usual of hot stone food. There is a special sauce that the staffs drizzled over the rice before serving, pan-fried and barbequed pork, spring onion, and seaweed and the best thing is that there is not only 1 but TWO raw eggs!! Such generosity! He broke the egg & stirred them into the rice making every grain coated with egg. Yummilicious!! Overall, a very satisfying dinner. Will be back to try their ladyfinger with cod roe side dish as it looks so interesting. …Read More

Special cha cha ramen
Daikokuya Ramen Dining
2013-06-14
Went back to try the special cha cha ramen at promotion price of $7.50++.Although, queue was evidently long, service was considered fast. They even employed part-time to help out with the event so as to shorten serving time! Just 2 comments, egg yolk was a little shaken up and not as gooey as how I liked it & the soup was filled with fats!! Maybe the chef was too busy with tons of orders coming in that he didn't have time to remove all of them.Nevertheless, taste-wise, it was out of the world! Be sure to go down to their outlet to try their ramen. You won't be disappointed. …Read More

Cha Shu Shoyu Ramen & Daikokuya Tsukemen
Chicken cutlet & fried salmon
Just Acia
2013-05-27
This is my uncountable time eating at Just Acia. I just loved the prices, the food, the environment (free seating) & especially free flow ice-cream and drinks. All sets comes with free flow drinks & ice-cream. There are the usual soft drinks, tea, coffee, more unusual are root beer, green tea sachets, hot chocolate, peach tea, lime juice & home-made milk tea.The veriety of ice-cream changes slightly day to day. But most of the time, there are chocolate, raspberry, strawberry, coffee & vanilla. Sometimes, you can see mint, cookies & cream as well as coconut ice cream.Chicken Cutlet set Very tender & juicy insides. You can see the juice on the meat. There are 2 strips of chicken instead of one! Fried Salmon setI feel that it is overly fried and the fish loses most of it's rich omega-3 oil. Overall, I would still enjoy dining at this outlet as the staffs are very friendly & they won't bother you too much.…Read More

Cha Shu Shoyu Ramen & Daikokuya Tsukemen
Daikokuya Ramen Dining
2013-05-27
My husband & I chanced upon this ramen outlet at Paragon while queuing for another restaurant nearby. The price for each bowl of ramen was reasonable & it looks very appetizing. Hence, we decided to give up waiting & went in.We were seated very promptly & our noodles were served within 10mins after orders were placed. Amazing service on a Sunday!!I liked the way they described each type of ramen at the top of their menu; giving us an idea of what is the soup base and the ingredients included in the particular ramen. Cha Shu Shoyu Ramen. $15.80I was abit hesitant as this is the first time I'm trying a shoyu soup base. It turns out it is not as salty as I expect. However, personally, I still prefer the chicken or pork bone broth. The noodles were springy and yummy! Usually, I'll give my husband half of the noodles but this is the first time that I don't mind adding more noodles! That shows how yummy it is!! Daikokuya Tsukemen. $13.50My husband ordered the dry ramen which comes with a bowl of soup to dip in. Interesting~If you want to drink the soup, ask for clear broth to be poured in. Beware of the saltiness of the soup. I tried the soup after it was mixed with the clear broth and still finds it too salty for me. Currently, they are having a 2 days promotion on 1 & 2 June. The special sha shu ramen is available at 50% off!!…Read More

Steamed Gourmet - Food Junction
2013-05-20
My family & I were deciding what to have for dinner when we saw the poster of this store. Decided to try it as it is new & it just opened on that day! Everything at the store is cooked by steaming which greatly cuts down on fat intake & retaining most of the food nutrient. Healthy eating at it's best! =DWe ordered 2 dishes & 1 bowl of brown rice.Fish paste in tofu. The entire dish is smooth & portion is quite generous. Chicken with black fungus, wolfberry and Chinese asparagus.Among the lot, this is my favourite! Super awesome taste! The excess sauce, containing the essence of chicken was poured into e soup as it is too good to waste even a single drop. There was a choice between xiao bai cai & cai xin. We chose the latter. Vegetable was delicious! As vegetables was cooked on the spot when ordered, results: no overcooked yellowish vegetables. Excellent!!They are also currently having an opening promotion: 20% off till 26 May 2013. I will be back to try all their other dishes.…Read More

yummlicious chicken pot pie
Kenny Rogers Roasters
2013-05-18
My friend is in love with Kenny Rogers so we went for dinner there. There was a slight queue on Friday night as the outlet was short-handed. Staffs were friendly and were trying their best to attend to all customers asap. Kudos to them! =)Hot-just-out-of-the-oven corn muffin for each person was served super quickly after orders were placed. It gives us something to fill our hungry stomach while waiting for our mains.I always go for the chicken pot pie whenever I go to Kenny Rogers. As always, it never fails to arose my palate! =Dchicken pot pie.It comes in a bread bowl which remains extra crispy all through the meal which was fantastic!! There are chunks of chicken, potatoes & carrot in the rich creamy soup.Together with the chicken pot pie, it comes with 2 sides which you can choose from an array of hot & cold choices. Mine were mac & cheese and potato salad. The mac & cheese is flavourful and quantity of cheese is very generous which is a bonus! The potato salad has big chunks of red-skin potato in cream sauce. Super tasty as well!I will definitely be back to hopefully try other recommended dishes like their roasted chicken.…Read More

yi fu mian & nai bai in superior stock
Boon Lay Raja Restaurant
2013-05-18
Went for dinner here a few times & I rather like the setting as the servers generally leave us alone unless we require any services. This is very pleasant as I don't like people hovering over me while I eat. They don't charge service charge too. This time, I went for dinner with my boyfriend. We ordered 2 dishes: yi fu mian. $8The portion (small) is sufficient to fill 4 bowls. I love yi fu mian and will always order if the restaurant has it.Taste was awesome! =D But just felt that the chef could use fresh garlic instead as the fried ones are very hard and tends to get stuck in my molars. (might just be me though). =/nai bai in superior stock. $12The portion (small) is really quite small for a vegetable-person like me. I also felt that this dish was alittle pricey for the portion.I like it that they cook this dish with wolfberries which adds to the aesthetic appeal. =)However, it wasn't superior stock at all, was just in e vegetable-flavored with abit of chicken stock, garlic was rubbery tasting. yuck! Would have preferred fresh garlic as well.…Read More

hightly recommended!!
Yoshimaru Ramen Bar
2013-04-23
Was recommended by my friend to go and try so had quite high expectation as she was raving about it.We were sitting outside was wasn't too warm as they have a standing 'air-con' just behind our table. So it was quite cooling. Overall, ambience was nice, not too noisy.Went with some of my colleagues and ordered the traditional Hakta Ramen ($11). Before ramen was served, we were given a small bowl of white sesame to grind. I think it is quite a good way of 'buying' some time for ramen to be cooked, especially if it is peak hours. Service was super fast! Ramen was served within 10 mins of ordering. I poured the grind sesame seeds in which enhanced the flavour of the soup and the smell actually makes you hungry due to the sesame oil. The combination of pork bone soup, char siew, spring onions, black fungus and the to-die-for egg was simply wonderful!! Needless to say, I emptied the entire bowl. If I can lick the bowl clean, I would! Will definitely recommend it!!Currently, the shop is having a student promo of 10% off. However, it is not applicable to set meals.…Read More

Excellent food & service
Dian Xiao Er
2013-02-09
Went for early reunion dinner with my family of 6. Despite the long queue, we were quickly seated. Excellent service! As I don't like it when picture and the actual food differs by alot, I like how their menu highlights their chef recommendation dishes by listing the ingredients used and also describing the benefits of the dish. One of our favourite dish - Roasted Duck with Ten Wonder Herbs Loved the combined taste of the duck and the herbs. It is not too herb-y and has a taste of sweet in the dish. I always pour the sauce on the rice. YUMMY!! Next up - Braised Assorted Mushroom with BroccoliA very healthy dish with lots of broccoli, carrots and mushroom. The sauce is also very rich but it also means it is probably full of salt. Soup of the day - Double-boiled lotus root soupThis has always been their soup of the day. Sometimes I wonder if the chefs are tired of coming up with new soups. :/The soup is quite tasty. With generous portion of the lotus root, pork with soft bone, peanuts and bits of scallop.Another of my favourite dish - Chinese Spinach with Superior Stock A dish endorsed by the National Health Board. Need I say more? The stock is super yummy and not salty at all. Which means it can be drunk on its own like soup.Hongkong Styled Steamed Fish SlicesA very simple dish. Slices of fish are thick! Roast Lamb Meat Grassland StyleComes in a sizzling pan! Tasted like mogolian meat. Very tender and doesn't have the strong lamb taste. Very tasty!Lastly, Baked Fresh Prawn JiangNan Style.Gangnam style? LOL.. Although this is a chef recommendation dish, I personally won't recommend this dish. They useking prawn which was quite impressive. But, maybe due to its size and the way it is cooked, the meat was quite dry and tough. Not very healthy as it was cooked in butter and wine.Overall, a lovely reunion dinner meal. I was very full after eating so many dishes so didn't have space to try their Osmanthus Jelly Dessert which looks very appealing on the menu.…Read More

Went for supper at the hawker centre. It was still super busy & we had to wait for a table for 2! Ordered the bee hoon as we didn't want a too heavy supper. We had ngoh hiang, spring roll and fish kind of ngoh hiang.Bee hoon ($0.70): Nice & springy. Not too oily. Loved the spring roll ($1) as it it filled with loads of vege. There is even long beans in it.. It was very crispy & the skin wasn't too thick.ngoh hiang is handmade by the store so had quite high expectation of it. But, it was not superbly fantastic & cost a hefty $2!fish kind of ngoh hiang ($1): I didn't try it but boyfriend love it! So, it should be petty decent. We didn't try the chilli that comes with it as we don't take spicy food. But, there are bits of peanuts in it so it should taste quite nice as we see people going back to get more chilli.Overall, I feel that this meal is too expensive. $4.70 for a simple economical bee hoon store.Might try it in the morning & review.…Read More

The Manhattan FISH MARKET

Went for dinner with my boyfriend. Had the Triple Treats promotion. We ordered the small grill set & Scallops Mussels Skewers (SMS) set for $14++. It comes with a glass of coke/sprite/iced lemon tea & a cup of mushroom soup.Small GrillThere were prawn, squid, fish, a helping of fries and the usual vegetable of carrots and broccoli atop a large portion of 'fried rice'Prawn: Very fresh! love the dressing on it.Squid: Unfortunately, the squid tasted a little burnt and rubbery. Fish: juicy! when you cut it, you can see the juice coming out..Fries: normal. nothing to rave about. tends to go soggy very quickily. Rice: there were bits of carrots in the rice! more servings of vegetables! yay!Scallops Mussels Skewers (SMS)As the title, scallops, mussels, fish skewer, a helping of fries and the usual vegetable of carrots and broccoli atop a large portion of 'fried rice'Scallops & Mussels: quite fresh. they doesn't have the fishy taste unlike some clams.Fish skewers: brushed on with chipotile sauce which is quite spicy for us. Between the two mains, I prefer the Triple Treats.Iced lemon teaI don't like drink with gas so ordered the lemon tea. A refreshing drink after oily food. Has a slice of lemon and doesn't taste like canned ones.Cream of mushroomOne word: FANTASTIC! Full of bits of mushroom! I would be a even happier girl if it comes in a bigger portion. We even got to have a bird's eye view of the skating rink! Although it is quite faint, the music from the rink are nicer.. :/Service staff were friendly and nice. They always have a smile on their faces. Overall, it was a superb meal. Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu.…Read More
