Cheap but good Egg Benedict
Canele Patisserie Chocolaterie
2013-11-10
I skipped breakfast last Saturday because I woke up late and had to rush to work. Luckily i finished work earlier and decided to treat myself a brunch before heading home. Had a really good cheesecake and triple chocolate cake from Canelé on my birthday last month. I went to check out their all day breakfast menu. Was surprised to see their egg benedict for only $10 so i ordered it right away. Oh boy, it was so good! The eggs were perfectly poached, yolk was runny, even the greens on the side was really fresh and the baked tomato with cheese was oozing with fresh tomato juice goodness. Their egg benedict is the cheapest yet tastiest i had so far. 👍👍👍*Review from mobile…Read More

Unique Dining Experience
BlooiE's Roadhouse Bar & Grill
2013-11-05
If you are looking for a unique dining experience away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, BlooiE's Roadhouse at West Coast is the place to be. Tucked right in the heart of Science Park II, you are guaranteed to be awed by the view of lush greenery whilst enjoying good food.BlooiE's Roadhouse Bar & Grill is the first North American roadhouse in Singapore. It is the brainchild of Sarge Sargeant, a Canadian Harley Davidson aficionado.I learned from his model-like wife who graciously hosted us during the OpenRice food tasting session that the name BlooiE was actually adapted from their first dog who is now in dog heaven. That's the story behind their logo.Being the first of its kind in Singapore, BlooiE's has gained loyal customers by word of mouth. They are known for their homemade, delicious and generous-sized portion meals.Warning: Please read further with full stomach. Don't say I never warn you, ok?APPETIZERS:1) BlooiE's Roadhouse Quesadillas ($16.90)The big-sized quesadillas came with 3 choices of dips, depending on what suits the taste buds of the diner. It served its purpose to whet our appetite.2) BBQ Chicken Wings ($13.90)I am not as crazy as my girl about chicken dishes but whenever I eat chicken, I always choose wings and other bony parts. This one did not disappoint my taste buds.MAINS:1) BlooiE's Bacon Mushroom Cheese Burger ($16.90)Oh. Am. Gee! This top seller burger doesn't just look so good in photo, it is actually good in real life. Take my word for it, it's a must try when you visit BlooiE's especially when you are a bacon, mushroom and cheese lover like me.2) Blackened Dory ($18.90)This dish is a healthier choice for health conscious patrons. Dip that perfectly grilled blackend dory in the garlic sauce, squeeze that piece of lemon and prepare your taste buds to be tickled. You can opt to dip the mashed potato and juicy vegetables in a separate mushroom sauce provided. I did just that and I was in mushroom heaven! I'm a mushroom lover, remember? 3) Pepperoni Pizza ($22.90)This is similar to the brick wood oven baked pizza I raved about when we were at Harris Resort? The thin crust cracks when you bite, you could tell that it is fresh from the oven. The pepperoni and cheese are like icing to a perfect cake. Pardon my luck of better words but you get the drift.4) NZ StripLoin Steak ($29.80)If you are steak perfectionist, you are welcome to skip this. It lacks the juicy factor of the other steaks I have tried before.5) BBQ Beer Butt Chicken ($38.80)Pardon the name butt this is something to rave about. It definitely belongs to the DDMT (Die, Die Must Try) category. It is actually the highlight of BlooiE's Roadhouse. As strange as it may sound, the whole chicken is marinated overnight with a special concoction of spices and seasoning, and just before the chicken is roasted, a beer can is inserted up in the chicken butt, set upright and grilled to perfection. It tasted perfect to my liking. Please note that this signature dish must be ordered 1 day in advance. You also have to inform them what time you are arriving because final preparation and grilling requires about one hour.I love how BlooiE's is surrounded with wood works including furnitures, displays and crockery. It added plus points to the unique dining experience factor.DESSERT:Molten Chocolate Cake ($6.80)There's no better way to end the food tasting session than devouring on this chocolate cake with vanilla icecream and a slice of peach. It may not be comparable to Chilli's molten lava cake but this miniature version wasn't bad at all. They used 70% cocoa so can you actually savour the chocolate taste without the taste of too much sugar.Needless to say we all went home with happy tummies. Can't you tell from our smiles and tongue-licking emoticon? Thank you so much Fiona (the very tall lady, I told you she is like a model right?) of BlooiE's and Calvin of OpenRice for graciously hosting us. We will surely never forget our unique dining experience!Dying to try BlooiE's signature BBQ Beer Butt Chicken and Bacon Mushroom Cheeseburger?Like BlooiE's Roadhouse Bar & Grill and visit www.blooies.com for latest promotions.Happy eating!*Complete photos and review at http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/11/unique-dining-experience-at-blooies.html…Read More

Affordable Gourmet Food
Platypus Kitchen
2013-10-18
The place exudes simple elegance. Before we dive into a gastronomic indulgence, here's a bit of history about the restaurant. The Platypus Kitchen StoryBefore you conclude that this place will surely burn your pocket, read the restaurant's tag line!Nicholas Lin or Nick, the very young and good looking chef (singles, you are free to swoon) and owner of Platypus restaurants and Blue Magnolia patisserie in Singapore, is determined to make your dining experience at Platypus Kitchen pleasant and affordable (Nick said they will do their best to offer their signature dishes $20 and below).Nick revealed to us many times how he dislikes misrepresentation. Hence, if there's another tag line suitable for Platypus Kitchen, it would be "What you see is what you get."Time to see it for yourselves! Do remember to eat before you continue reading the entire post! Don't blame me for feeling hangry later, ok? Yes, HANGRY. Short for angry and hungry. LOLLet's start with the appetizers.Crab Cakes ($12.90, soon to be $9.90)Three potato fritters stuffed with crab claw meat, deep fried and served with lemon. Truffle Fries ($6.90)Thick cut French fries seasoned with white truffle oil tossed in truffle salsa and topped with shaved truffles. This is really good! Risotto BallsMozarella-stuffed balls of risotto, breaded in panko then deep fried and served over rich pumpkin puree. DDMT! (Die Die Must Try)This is how our table look like with the appetizers and drinks. We were served with Platypus Kitchen's mixologist inspired drink creations. Their Momo-Lychee Ale (set price $6.90) (lower right corner on the above photo) is refreshingly good. It is a larger beer flavoured with fresh peach and lychee nectar then garnished with mint and fresh lychees. I personally prefer their Smith's Ale though (lower left corner on the photo above). It is larger beer infused with green apples and lemon, then garnished with apples, lemon and passion fruit. The taste of the green apple somehow overpowers the beer taste so it's perfect for a non-beer drinker like me. Hangry already? Haha! Wait for the main course...Tadaaaaaaaaa!!!Saffron and Caviar Risotto ($19.90)Saffron infused risotto with char-grilled prawns and scallops then fished with sustainable caviar and fine herbs. Care for a spoonful of this awesome dish? This is OH-SO-GOOOOOOD and reasonably priced too. DDMT (Die die must try)!Squid-Ink Scallops Ragout ($16.50)Squid-Ink Tagliolini served with seared bay scallops in a light garlic-dashi sauce. Nicholas said it will not stain your teeth. If you are a fan of squid-ink dishes, you must try this. Nick said it won't stain your teeth. Truffle CarbonaraEgg Tagliatelle with double-smoked bacon and mushrooms in a truffle egg-yolk sauce. This dish spells heaven to me. 'Nuff said.Pressed Pork Belly ($19.90)Supple crispy skin pork belly served with braised apples, garden vegetables and a honey and clove apple glaze. This dish is very sweet and hearty. I made a mental note to order this for my girl next time, she will surely love it. And I saved one of the bests for last! Presenting...Spicy "Diablo" Crab and PrawnEgg Tagliolini with prawns and crab claw tossed in a spicy egg sauce. Another heavenly creation by the genius chef.I am not so much into spicy food but this dish left quite an impression to my taste buds. Yes, it was THAT good and not too spicy. Another DDMT!Dying from hunger already? Wait, we have not tried the desserts!Iced Sea Salt Caramel ($8.90)Sea salt and caramel butter cream, chocolate peanut butter brittle, ganache and popping candy. Yes, POPPING candy!!! We were all joking around that we should record a video to show you how the popping candy pops in our mouth. In the end, we just indulge ourselves with this sweet treat.NOTE:I had a taste of everything down to the dessert. The servings were NOT entirely mine, we all shared for food tasting indulgence. For full review and more photos, please visit http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/04/platypus-kitchen-at-bugis-junction-food.html…Read More

Delectable Desserts!
nydc
2013-10-18
I have to agree, nydc is one of the perfect places to celebrate life. You don't have to wait for a special occasion to celebrate, life is meant to be celebrated everyday. I love nydc's interior at their Tampines branch but I love their Bugis outlet even more. The brick walls, the nostalgic photos framed, the faux fire place and the pig in a motorcycle made my dining experience cozy.Did I just say cozy? The photo above is L-O-V-E. Very homey, it makes you want to snuggle with your love one. I would love to indulge with nydc's dessert specialties there with the hubby.Goldmine Cheesecake ($7.20/slice, $68/whole)It's Ally's New York cheesecake with chocolate chunks, slathered with irresistible chocolate fudge topping. It came with solid Oreo cookie base. I am a cheesecake person but I have not tried chocolate cheesecake before. My verdict? The cheese and choc combination blended really well. Just perfect! Boo Boo ($6.80/slice, $62/whole)nydc's friends' chocolate cake with piped swirls of light whipped cream. For me, this is the B-O-M-B! I think the heart-shaped cake that we had last Valentine's is very similar if not the same to this. According to nydc, diners come back for this time and again. What's there not to go crazy about a chocolate cake baked into perfection? It is very moist, it literally melts in your mouth. A must try, highly recommended!3-some Mudpie ($11.80/slice) It's ménage à trois (threesome) of guilt-free kind. Get ready to get wild and gooey whilst sandwich between 3 layers of chocolate chip cookie dough, strawberry and strawberry cheesecake icecreams and graham crackers. Soooooooo yummmy!!! Strawberry and chocolate combination is fail-proof.Jedi Mudster ($11.80/slice)The force is tempting us with this enticing mudpie. It is made of double chocolate chip and Macadamia nut icecream on an Oreo base with homemade cookie chunks, complete with chocolate fudge and whipped cream. This is the crowd's favourite. There's no need to explain further why. http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/04/new-york-dessert-cafe-bugis-junction.html…Read More

Kids Fun Day at the Treehouse Cafe
Treehouse Cafe
2013-10-18
Treehouse Cafe is a perfect place for the whole family to bond over food, fun and great company. It is a place where parents and grandparents can dine peacefully while watching their kids/grandchildren have the time of their lives at the designated play areas. The unique cafe boasts child-friendly facilities and a variety of European and Asian dishes that caters to three generations of diners.Kid will get to enjoy the indoor treehouse and play area. The spacious area provides educational, art and craft as well as toys to encourage creativity and promotes bonding. That's my girl busy entertaining a fellow mommy blogger's little boy by teaching him how to cook in the play kitchen. My girl later told me what the boy's favourite foods are. They had so much fun preparing toy food, playing and chatting after we devoured on the following scrumptious food served to us by the awesome Treehouse Cafe crew.Caesar SaladSizzling Prawns with Garlic, Chili & Olive Oil Pork Meatball in Spicy Tomato Sauce Beef LasagnaWe also had Hawaiian 10” Pizza , Curry Chicken, Braised Lamb Shank, Gourmet Steak Burger, Sauteed Spicy Mushrooms with Chili & Garlic, Rosemary Chicken, Tiramisu, Chocolate Lava Cake and Movenpick Icecream (photos all full review can be viewed here ---> http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/06/treehouse-cafe-at-grandstand.htmlTreehouse Cafe lives up to its tag line: GREAT FOOD, GREAT FUN!We loved the child-friendly facilities most, including a nice and clean diaper changing room for mommies with babies/toddlers like me. …Read More

Good food, Great service!
Poulet - VivoCity
2013-10-17
My colleagues and blogger friends have been raving about Poulet and I am so glad we get to eat there last Saturday. We arrived just in time for lunch and the place is close to full house. Have we arrived later, we might have to wait for a while to get a table. That's how good the business is for Poulet. They do deserve all the raves about their food and service. You get great value for your bucks plus you are guaranteed an unforgettable gastronomic experience. Here's what we ordered:Country Side Mushroom Soup - this cream of wild mushroom and Idaho potato made the mushroom lover me wild and happy! Salad de Paris - chopped garden salad, dried cranberry, tomato, avocado, black olive and roasted pine nut served with French dressing. The hubby liked it so much that he asked me to come up with my own version of Salad de Paris at home. :)Poulet Roti - Oh am geeee! This is sooooo good! The chicken apparently was brined for a full day in a traditional recipe then placed in the rotiserrie for a slow roast until the skin tans to a golden brown. The homemade mushroom Chardonay sauce complimented the perfectly roasted chicken! This is a definitely a MUST TRY!Iberico Pork Belly - braised spanish Iberico pork belly served with mashed potato, leek confit and double mustard. The marriage of the mashed po, leek and mustard taste created an unforgettable savoury taste to this dish! Four thumbs up from my girl and the hubby! Another MUST TRY in my book!Tiramisu in a mason jar - this is all i can say; It deserves all the raves from my colleague who recommended it to me. I am so happy I get to take home the mason jar too for $5!We are definitely coming back to eat at Poulet soon! Thinking of bringing my university friends in their Bugis branch for my birthday treat. :)http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/10/yummylicious-lunch-at-poulet.html…Read More

Try their cheesecake!
Rocky Master
2013-10-08
We had a satisfying second round of breakfast at Rocky Masters, Orchard last Monday morning while waiting for the embassy to open at 9am. I had American breakfast which came with  juicy sausages, not so crispy but good enough bacon, hash brown, a piece of ham, mushroom, tomato, cucumber, scrambled egg and perfectly toasted bread. I was given a choice of coffee or tea for drinks but i opted for a hot choco which turned out to be soooo chocolatey yet not too sweet, just perfect for my liking. Nothing spectacular about the American breakfast but i wasn't disappointing nonetheless. There's plenty of room for improvement with regards to plating/food presentation and perhaps they can add just a little bit more of the mushroom and bacon. Big eaters won't be satisfied with their regular portion, i suppose. The hubby who had heavy breakfast at home earlier ordered strawberry cheesecake and apple juice. The cheesecake was sooo good, i am already thinking of going back there to have another slice. It would have been a perfect way to kickstart the week if only the server greeted and entertained is with a smile on his face.…Read More

Dinner date at Pique Nique
Pique Nique
2013-10-02
Finally, hubby and i had a chance to dine at Pique Nique in Takashimaya. Been eyeing this cosy looking place for a long time but it seemed the big brouhaha about it has died down. It was almost empty when we were there and i noticed some of the seat faux leather covers been ripped and have not been replaced. Hubby devoured on their All Day Big Breakfast Burger and the carnivorous in him loved it!I had roasted chicken and mushroom and mac cheese. Was disappointed initially when it was served to me in such a small vintage pan. I though i was cheated with my money but boy i was so wrong! When i started digging, i realized the pan was deep and there was a generous portion of roasted chicken. By the time i finish it, i was stuffed with cheese, mushroom and roasted chicken goodness! What we regret ordering is the dessert recommended to us by the waiter - sticky dates pudding. It was way too sweet even for people like us with sweet tooth. Read my full review at http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/07/mon-date-at-pique-nique-takashimaya.html…Read More

Japanese Food for Dinner
Ichiban Boshi
2013-10-01
My girl requested to have Japanese food for dinner and since we are already at ViVo City, we brought her at Ichiban Boshi. Just like Sakae Sushi, Ichiban Boshi also serves sushi in kaiten (conveyor belt). My sushi lover girl picked two plates of sushi from the kaiten and she ordered Honetsuki Torimomo Mushi from the menu. In layman's term, it's a stewed drumstick with potato salad. For the record, she finished it all by herself considering she also had two plates of sushi (she only shared 1 each for me and the hubby). The drumstick must be really good, my girl rarely finishes her food when we eat out.Hubby and i had Kaisen Salad, Hotate Cheese Yaki and Soft Shell Crab Tempura. The kaisen salad is a must try! Hotate Cheese Yaki on the other hand is only recommended for cheese lovers. Read my full review at <a href="http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/08/delectable-japanese-treats-at-ichiban.html?m=1">http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/08/delectable-japanese-treats-at-ichiban.html</a>…Read More

Fri-date at Dome
Dôme
2013-10-01
I brought my mom and my daughter to eat at Dome Cafe in Plaza Singapura a few months back. My order: Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli - homemade basil pesto, roasted aubergine, baby asparagus in tomato sauce topped with pine nuts. I find the ravioli filling a bit too dry. I think i am not going to order this again shoul i eat at Dome again. Having said that, my daughter tasted it and gave it a thumbs up. Oh, to each her own indeed! My mom's order: Beef Tenderloin - served with sautéed  savory cabbage, bacon and grilled  mishroom, topped with pomery mustard sauce. She liked it but she swapped food with me as i mistakenly told the server medium rare. My mum prefers it well done. My daughter's order: Fresh Cut Lamb Rack - served with aubergine and tomato confit, topped with red wine mint sauce. My girl totally loved it. We shared raspberries swiss cake for dessert. It is refreshingly good!My mom and my daughter's order were from the New Zealand Farm Creation which were offered during our visit.I think i will choose from the baked rice menu in my next visit and I also would love to try their chocolate lava next time. Read my full review at <a href="http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/05/dome-cafe-plaza-singapura.html?m=1">http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/05/dome-cafe-plaza-singapura.html</a>…Read More

Soup Brunch on a Rainy Day
The Soup Spoon Union
2013-10-01
One rainy Saturday, i decided to eat at The Soup Spoon in Dhoby Ghaut. I intended to just have a soup to warm me up on a cold morning but the crew recommended that I order a set meal which includes a choice of sandwich or salad and a choice of drinks. I ordered regular velvety mushroom stroganoff soup, caesar salad and iced lemon tea. The soup came with a piece of bread. The soup was made from fresh mushrooms, it was silky and slightly bitter. Perfectly eaten with the bread. I highly recommend it to mushroom lovers like me. The caesar salad was fresh and saladelicious, if there is such a word. Haha. I commend the calorie count provided in the soup menu. It is beneficial for calorie conscious diners.  Read my full review at www.sweetmemoirs.com/fooddiary.…Read More

Random Sushi Date
Sakae Sushi
2013-10-01
The hubby and I went for a random sushi date at Sakae Sushi in Citylink Mall after work one weekday. Each table was provided with a monitor which shows the menu and latest promotions. Apart from the food that we picked from the menu, we also picked 2 plates of sushi from the kaiten (conveyor belt). The potato salad left a deep impression with the hubby. He loved it so much that he commented he will have it again the next time we eat at Sakae Sushi. We also loved the Wagyu Bibinba. The wagyu beef is very juicy and tender, it melts in the mouth. We had green tea mochi icecream for dessert. If you are a fan of green tea and mochi, it's a must try! Oh, not forgetting the mini tsukudani wakame don. If you don't mind having carbo overload, order this savoury side dish. Read my full review at www.sweetmemoirs.com/fooddiary…Read More

Ramen for Dinner
Ajisen Ramen
2013-10-01
My husband and i decided to have a quick dinner at Ajisen Ramen at Changi City Point last Saturday night. We took advantage while the place was not crowded, it meant faster service for us. We had 2 sets of ramen which came with side dishes and  drinks of our choice. Hubby picked chicken teriyaki ramen and fried prawn as side dish while I ordered seafood ramen and gyoza as side dish.We were both satisfied with the food and service. I highly recommend their chocolate pudding which we had for dessert. I initially wanted to try the green tea icecream pancake but I didn't regret choosing the pudding in the end as it was very smooth, silky and yummy. Perfect way to end a ramen meal.…Read More

Dinner at Lenas
LENAS
2013-10-01
I brought my 11 yearold girl for dinner at Lenas Tampines 1 last Friday and we were not disappointed with the food and service. The only thing that turned me off is they charge 30cents for a glass of water. Seriously, can't they serve water for free? Highly recommend the carbonara creamoso for pasta lovers but be warned that it is very rich, creamy and sinful. The soft shell crab omelette rice on the other hand was flavourful and got a thumbs up from my girl.…Read More

Mother's Day Lunch at Crystal Jade Kitchen
Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen
2013-06-22
We had the privileged to dine in at Crystal Jade Kitchen to celebrate Mother's Day in 2011. Thanks to my ever-generous lady boss who gave me vouchers worth $200.Food, ambiance and service was great!Chilli Crab is one of my family's ultimate favourite local dish. It is best savoured with tasty buns but if you are not restricted to have carbo-overload, feel free to order a plate of rice and indulge. The steamed fish is oh-so-delicious and very healthy! I was the one who ate most of this as I was pregnant during our visit so I opted for healthier choices of food. More photos of the food we ate can be found here: http://www.sweetmemoirs.com/2013/06/crystal-jade-kitchen-ngee-ann-city.html…Read More
