I'm an ordinary guy who loves an extraordinary God, sprint, eat and drink. Apart from my heavy involvement in athletics and coaching, I also appreciate good coffee and food! Being a coffee purveyor and a foodie, I will venture around Singapore in search for new cafes & territories for a good cuppa & food that is 'out of this world'!

Peranakan Buffet At Feast At East
Feast @ East Buffet Restaurant
2016-03-31
Full review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/peranakan-buffet-at-feast-at-east-of-hotel-grand-mercureFollow Lepak With Yaops at Facebook and instagramLocated on the third level of Hotel Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy, Feast @ East offers a great selection of classic Singaporean and delightful Peranakan cuisine to delight your nostalgic taste buds. The highlight of this buffet will be their ever-changing buffet selection to pamper customers. For consistency, All-time favourites such as Singapore Laksa and famous Durian Paste are available daily for during lunch and dinner!Went for the kill at the seafood station! Freshly steamed cold mud crab and scallop, can't get any better than that! Crab was sizeable (about 350-450grams), value for money for such buffet standard. I had other options from the cooked food segment and of course their Signature Singapore Laksa! Colour of the gravy was on point and the rest was history. Indeed living up to its name as Feast At East's All Time Favourites. If you are a cake and kueh lover, their dessert bar is one not to miss! The one worth mentioning was the Durian paste. Not compromising on the quality, this purée was thick and rich with durian! I would be lying if I said I stopped at one serving. Even if I didn't had an extra room for desert, I will make sure I have some that night!Overall, an ideal place to get together with family and friends for a nice meal where you can relax and take your time to enjoy the entire buffet selection repeatedly at your desired pace.…Read More

Beans & Cream: Waffles & Coffee At Heartland
Beans & Cream
2016-03-31
Full review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/beans-cream-waffles-coffee-at-heartland-of-bukit-batokFollow Lepak With Yaops on Facebook and InstagramWhen I first saw the exterior, my impression of dipped a little as I was expecting something a little more hipster since it was highly recommended by a fellow coffee lover/athlete! However, if I never try, I will never know, right?Beans and Cream reminds me of Creamier in terms of presentation. However, the latter still has the upper hand. Waffles here lack in buttery fragrance and can be a little more fluffy, nonetheless, it was above average.Their ice cream were awesome. Thick, rich and generous portion! Had the Thai Ice Tea and Salted Caramel flavours where both scored 8/10 for me.Coffee was surprisingly tasty too. With past experiences of diluted ice latte, thus I didn't esteem this cuppa at Beans and Cream, initially. Once again, never judge a book by it's cover. This humble ice cuppa had great aroma and chocolate/bitter coffee flavour at great price too!Great recommendation and finding! This was an icing on the cake as my athletes did well for their competition too! Made my trip to Gombak extra worthwhile!…Read More

Roast Paradise (烧味天堂) At Old Airport Road
Roast Paradise
2016-03-02
Full Review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/roast-paradise-烧味天堂-at-old-airport-road-food-centreFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookThere has been an emergence of youngsters venturing into F&B usually in cafes, restaurants and into hawker fare as well! Stated "Since 1970" (which I highly doubt it), Kai and Randall decided to make a career switch from sales to roast! Perhaps knowing the power of focus, Roast Paradise specializes only on Char Siew and Roasted Pork. That's right, no roasted duck, chicken nor braised eggs, only Pork. #soshiokporkIt's been awhile since their opening in August 2015 and business has increased steadily according to Randall.Unlike the typical roast stall with racks of meat dripping with gravy, Roast Paradise is rather 'clean' and the meat are nicely racked in standard portions. Apart from the normal individual order, additional portions comes in 100 grams, 200 grams and etc. as a form of standardization. The part used for Char Siew is definitely unlike the regular cut. Wanted to ask Randall about it, but he was busy entertaining the lunch crowd and it eventually slipped my mind too. Translucent fat, deeply marinated meat, caramelized crispy outside with charred edges.Verdict: 3.5/5 for taste and 5/5 for presentation. Fatty Cheong and Nan Xiang are still my to-go places for Roast Meat!…Read More

The Burger Bar by Fatboy's: BYOB Burger Joint
The Burger Bar

Full review here at http://lepakwithyaops.com/the-burger-bar-by-fatboys-byob-burger-joint-at-marina-squareFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookHere at The Burger Bar by Fatboy's, one is able to Build Your Own Burger (BYOB) with over 25 toppings, 11 sauces, 4 types of buns and patties to experiment with. Have fun, Build Your Own Burger, and claim one of 4400 possible permutations! Boom!Feeling 'lazy'? Why not try out burgers from their menu instead. Burgers are priced from $13-17 (if I remember correctly) that comes with fries and drink. You may top up a little to upgrade your original fries to sweet potato fries, cheesy bacon fries and etc.I tried their Swiss Shroom, BYOB with Lamb Patty and the classic Cheeseburger - Royale with Cheese. To be honest, they were all super satisfying! The patties were juicy (not overly wet), minced to perfection (not mashed) and tastefully seasoned. The lamb patty had a mild gamy flavour which may tickle the taste buds for lamb lovers just like myself. The Fatboy's really knows how to treat their customers well! Check out the portion of fries served! Definitely unseen and unheard of in other burger joints.Overall, this is a fuss-free and self-service burger joint. What you see is what you get, this is the real deal for burger lovers!…Read More

Old School Kim Keat Claypot Hokkien Noodles
Kim Keat Hokkien Mee
2015-12-26
Full Review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/old-school-kim-keat-claypot-hokkien-noodles-toa-payoh/Follow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookI've heard and tasted Claypot Rice, Chicken, Beancurd and Frog etc., but Hokkien Noodles...? Well that's a first for me. Whatever the case, when I first saw pictures of it, I immediately promised myself that I need to try it one day and I finally did!We ordered the Claypot version ($10 or $15) which took about 20 mins to arrive. Like eating claypot rice, I mixed the golden brown mouth-watering siobak (roasted pork) and pork lard together with the noodles, then allowed the gravy to set for a while to reach 'perfect' viscosity. The rest was history!Wok hei from the noodle, fragrance from the pork lard, crisp from the sio bak... all these as I slurp in mouth after mouth. Food-gasm my friend!Simply irresistible!…Read More

Basil Leaf Cafe At The Sail: Downtown Bistro
Basil Leaf
2015-12-09
Full review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/basil-leaf-cafe-at-the-sail-downtown-bistroFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookDespite the lower traffic (relative) to other parts of Raffles Place and TanjongPagar, business at Basil Leaf Cafe doesn't show signs of slowing down. The café was packed with patrons, had a queue at the counter, nonetheless we managed to settle down rather quickly.Menu is rather extensive. They have Burgers, Pasta, Salads, Sandwiches and Mains such as beef and salmon steaks. A top up of $3.5 entitles you a set meal (soup + Iced Lemon Tea). How about a small array of dessert to complete your meal, but just be wary of the ever ready Z monster when you head back to your desk.I ordered the Roasted Ribeye ($11.90) while Kaleb got himself the Crabmeat Bisque ($15.90). Golden brown toasted bread packed with tiny sliced roasted ribeye and accompanied with potato chips. A decent piece of sandwich that's fit for all meals throughout the day. The crab meat bisque was smooth and light in flavour. Pasta was al dente too! They even gave a generous roll of crab meat to give that addition boost in flavour.Looking for a spacious, relaxing and comfortable venue for lunch? Basil Leaf Cafe is certainly an option.…Read More

Cho Kee Noodles: Wanton Noodles At 51 Old Airport
Cho Kee Noodle
2015-11-25
Full review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/cho-kee-noodles-wanton-noodles-at-51-old-airport-roadFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookRumor has it that there is a strong rivalry between Hua Kee and Cho Kee. Even names are in contention. Maybe it's a siblings rivalry? Both served fresh and springy noodles. However, Cho Kee had that extra Q. While it's noodle won my vote, but they can step up on their char siew a bit more. Perhaps, giving it a little fat will do the job.I believe Cho Kee is heading toward the healthier choice route, thus could explain the "dryness" of the char siew.As for Wanton and Dumplings, I both were plumpy and generous in portion. Thumbs up!Give their Special selection of noodles a try. They have the Spinach, Beetroot, Carrot, Seaweed and Multi-grain!…Read More

Authentic Thai Cuisine By First Thai @ Purvis Stre
First Thai Food
2015-11-22
Full Review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/authentic-thai-cuisine-by-first-thai-purvis-street-bugisFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookOperating hours at First Thai is relatively short, and is packed with people most of the time! No reservation allowed, so come early if you want to avoid queuing.Basil Chicken - Spicy, yet flavorful!Green Curry - Very rich and creamy. Heavy with coconut base...a little less generous would had been perfect for me.Panda Chicken - Fragrant and chunky, couldn't ask for more!Phad Thai - One of the better ones around Singapore. Semi-wet and gooey (that's how I describe and prefer), balanced on the sweetness and generous with their garnishing.Sea Bass in Thai Sauce - Some protein for our muscles! Very delicious and appetizing gravy/soup and the fish was fresh!Overall, First Thai was priced a little above average but with good portions and taste. I guess that even things out.…Read More

Wing Zone: 100% Fresh Chicken and Burgers At Bugis
Wing Zone
2015-11-17
Full review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/wing-zone-100-fresh-chicken-and-burgers-at-bugisFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookThe name of the eatery may suggest that they are all about chicken wings. While that's the half truth, Wing Zone actually takes pride in their 100% fresh chicken for preparation as well as their large array of flavours to tickle your taste butts! (check out the post to win vouchers!)Their sauces come in 4 categories. Traditional (vinegar based), Sweet with heat, Sweet and Dry Rub. Among these flavours, I cast my votes for Mango Fire, Nuclear Habanero and Smokin Q! Having said that, the rest weren't bad either.Mango Fire - Initial taste of mango flavour was evident while the spiciness crept in as an after taste. Even though with 3 peppers, but it wasn't that bad. Definitely suitable for kids!Smokin Q - Classic smokey BBQ flavour coupled with a tinge of spiciness for some kick.Nuclear Habanero - Brace yourself and standby your ice water! Rated with 4 peppers, your lips will burn, tears and mucus will flow! Love the vinegar flavour that follows after the heat. Pretty much a love and hate relationship here!Gotta commend on getting the boneless chicken (breast meat) right on point for tenderness and juice. Portion per piece was generous too. No extra batter to make up the volume.Wing Zone is Halal certified too! This is definitely the place for chicken (real) lovers as preparation of your meal is only done when your order is processed. Fried with chilled (not frozen) meat, so freshness guaranteed.…Read More

Afterwit Cafe: Mexican Halal Cafe In North Bridge
Afterwit - Mexican Taqueria
2015-11-05
Full review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/afterwit-cafe-mexican-halal-cafe-in-north-bridge-roadFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookMore than just a Mexican halal eatery, Afterwhit Cafe enjoys music where local bands are invited to perform during dinner hours. Check out the intricate wall art too, simply brilliant!Lunch special starting from $10 is available between 12-3pm and each set comes with a choice of Tacos or Burritos paired with either specialty coffee or fruit juices.Taking pride in their coffee, Afterwhit uses beans from Dutch Colony Coffee Co. similar to their parent brunch at Working Title Cafe. However, I am disappointed with the outcome. Here's the Tacos de Carne Asada (Roast Beef) with nachos and dip. Stole a bite of the Taco which was refreshing and juicy with all that sauces, but only had traces of beef slices. Would need a second helping if I ordered this.I had Carne Picante (Roast Beef) Burrito! It was chunky and filling, but mainly due to rice with traces of sliced beef. Compared to the one I had at Muchachos, the latter has the upper hand in terms of taste and texture.Want a taste of Mexico, Afterwit is probably a place to visit...or maybe not? Overall, this is a great place to check out if you are looking for a peaceful place to work and catch up with friends. Nearest MRT will be either Lavender or Bugis Station.…Read More

Workshop Element (W.E.) Cafe At Suntec City

Full review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/workshop-element-w-e-cafe-at-suntec-city-tower-2Follow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookThemed in soft industrial concept and serves East-West fusion dishes is Workshop Element (W.E.) Cafe, a relatively new café that sits at the heart of Singapore. Located in front of the escalator leading to second level of tower 2 and smack in the middle of the walkway, it is impossible to overlook.Workshop Element Cafe offers dessert, waffle, sandwich, mains and coffee. Main attraction will be their $10.90 set lunch which includes main and soup while their $18.80 Tea Time set of Waffle, 2 Drinks and Gelato.Latte ($5.30) had a decent flavour and strength to it but I wouldn't classify it in the "perk me up" category.I had the Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich ($10.90). Good portion of pan-fried chicken fillet in olive oil served with a conventional toasted Ciabatta. The dressing that's drizzled with the chicken was unique and tasty. These waffles ($6.90) are "to die for", no kidding! The fluff, fragrance and crisp were phenomena. Definitely going into my "Creameries & Waffles Worth Visiting" article.Do check out W.E. Cafe if you are in Suntec City! Psst...there are power plugs and wi-fi too!…Read More

Paddy Hills Cafe At South Buona Vista Road
Paddy Hills
2015-10-19
Full Review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/paddy-hills-premium-cafe-at-south-buona-vista-roadFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookThe owners named this café "Paddy Hills" (which represents rice and abundance) with the intention of positioning their café as a source of staple for their patrons. On top of that, this Australian inspired café is really the premium version of café. From dish ideas, interior design to equipment, everything is top notched!Even the patch of wall outside the café was given much thoughts by having a large display of artwork which is calls for a mandatory #ootd photo!Latte was great! Full of flavour and had moderate punch (intensity or gao) to it. Enjoyed every sip. This probably is the BEST milkshake in town. Step aside Billy Bombers! Sweetness overload, but not jelak. I could also taste the finely blended ice which melted instantly with each sip. How cool is that?Cakes were superb! 3 in 1: Thickness, Moist, Fluff. Brilliant Stuff checked. With all intended purpose, the precise fluff in these pillows were meant to soak up the berry soup. Despite that, the moisture in the pillows was just right and still great in texture. What sorcery is this?!The crew at Paddy Hills has gotten things on point! Just be ready to spend a little more while you indulge and lepak away.…Read More

Pranakorn: Authentic Thai Food At Changi Village
Pranakorn
2015-10-12
Full review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/pranakorn-authentic-thai-food-at-changi-villageFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookInjected with life especially when night falls, Changi Village is one of my favourite food hub and night spot in Singapore. While exploring my options outside of the Changi Hawker Centre, I spotted Pranakorn, a Thai eatery located next to the Zebra Crossing along the main streets of Changi Village Road. They adopted the vintage Bangkok street concept which aims to give customers the feeling of eating in Bangkok city. One of the specialties is the Moo Daeng ($5.80) - fried minced pork ball yet with tenderness like fish balls.Stir fried Thai Style Kang Kong ($5.80). A little wok hei flavour and hint of spiciness for some kick.Crispy Pork Cutlet ($5.80) were tender, just like those battered cuttlefish cakes. However, the thickness was unacceptable! These were our mains which were available in set meals. Sticky noodle with minced pork in Tom Yum ($8.90) and Stir Fried Spicy Basil Minced pork with Egg ($8.90). Both came with a choice of beverage and a standard bowl of dessert which was iced grass jelly sprinkled with brown cane sugar.Pranakorn serves a different style from the likes of Nakhon Kitchen, Joe's Kitchen and A-roy Thai where flavours are heavier and richer, probably to suit Singaporeans' palate. So if you are searching for authentic Thai Street delicacies, Pranakorn is probably the closest you can get.…Read More

Once completed with the conversion, we headed to Geylang Bahru Market and Food Centre for lunch. Situated in a mature estate, I knew I was in for a good session of food hunt!My initial plan was to order wanton noodles but changed my mind without second thoughts when I saw the real product. Scouting a little more, the humble unit of Red Stove Fried Prawn Mee stall caught my attention!Prawn Mee with more noodle and pork ribs for $5! Good portion of noodles with three large prawns. Ribs were tender through and the meat peeled off effortlessly. More importantly, the soup base was the bomb! I don't usually order soup based food nor finish them up, but I did for this!So what are you waiting for? This is definitely a worthy bowl of Prawn Mee Soup and come on down before the lease is up! …Read More

Coyoro: Ice Cream Rolls At East Village
COyOrO
2015-09-29
Full review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/coyoro-fried-ice-cream-rolls-at-east-villageFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookIn recent years, we have seen the increasing trend for unique desserts such as ice cream, yogurt, Korean bingsu and now Ice Cream Rolls! Popularized from Thailand, this handmade dessert has found its way to our shore. This is very similar to creamery such as Marble Slab and Cold Stone, except that it's made from its base ingredient - milk.Coyoro has two outlets - Sunplaza in Sembawang and East Village in Simpang Bedok.I ordered the Cocoyoro ($7.90) which was prepared with fresh coconut, dried cranberries and topped with a yogurt soft-serve. My friend got himself a Oreonana ($6.9) mixed with Oreo and topped with extra mini Oreo and banana.Although they were delicious and satisfying, however, a little pricey!
