Happened to be at Jurong East BGAIN coffee shop for lunch. After taking a look at the display available dishes, i had decided to try the mixed rice stall as there are some new dishes.I had the hotdog with potato in tomato chilli sauce,gong bao chicken and black pepper deep fried fish cube with additional rice($4+). The hotdog with potato taste just nice as the sauce is not overpowering.The gong bao chicken has a stronger flavor but it is mild spicy.My favorite dish is the black pepper deep fried fish.The sauce taste tangy like Thailand sweet chilli sauce but on the other hand,the bits of black pepper add on the spiciness.The fish is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.The best thing is that the fish is fresh and does not have any muddy taste.…Read More

I was looking for coffee shop that open till late night or operate for 24 hours.My friend recommended me to go to this blk 302 coffee shop which is located in front of the Choa Chu Kang bus interchange.I reached at around 11.20pm and 90% of the stalls are still operating.Bought the roasted char siew rice($3) and saw a sign that wrote take away will need to add a 20 cents charge.I asked the stall owner and the 20 cents only incur for the use of plastic container for noodles items only.The char siew given is quite generous and sufficient brown gravy.The char siew is quite tender and soft and goes well with the sweet brown gravy.I like it when they give boiled vegetable instead of slices of cucumbers as it is more to the hong kong style of char siew rice.…Read More

Went to Jurong Point for dinner and when i walked to LENAS,the waiter prompted me that i can choose to sit at either LENAS or MOF as they are from the same company.I chose to sit at MOF and was given 2 menu,one from LENAS and another from MOF.Took some time to go through the 2 menu as there are so many items to choose from these 2 restaurant.I had this dessert,breadcrumb banana with ice-cream and honeydew($6.80).I had the option to choose either to fry the banana with spring roll skin or breadcrumb.The breadcrumb banana fritter is quite unique as the breadcrumb is crispy and goes well with the sweet banana.The whole dessert is drizzled with bitter chocolate sauce.The best part of this dessert is the vanilla ice cream.The vanilla ice cream taste milky and creamy and it is not that sweet.…Read More

At dinner hours,i pass by this popiah stall which is located outside the coffee shop.The popiah cost $1.20 per roll which is an reasonable price.There are a few customers in front of me,each of them buying around 2 to 3 rolls of popiah and thus the long waiting time.I told the stall owner not to cut the popiah roll into pieces so that i can walk and eat the popiah at the same time as the ingredients will not fall out easily.The popiah taste sweet from the sweet sauce.What i like is that the skin of the popiah is fresh and not soggy even when it is wrapped with wet ingredients like the stewed turnip.What i like about this stall popiah is the crispy fried flour ingredients which not every popiah stall owner is adding. …Read More

Happened to be at the east area during late lunch and my friend brought me to Saffron's Cafeteria.The late lunch crowds is still alright.Ordered the the nasi mutton biryani($5.50) and has been warned about the spicy curry sauce.The stall helper put the curry mutton first then follow by the rice on top.There is seasoned cucumbers for appetizer and a small plate of curry.The first taste of the curry is still alright until a few more mouthful,i started to ask for teh tarik as the spiciness is quite unbearable.…Read More

I was at chinatown complex and there are so many stalls to choose from.Decided to try this stall minced meat noodles as it got the longest queue.The waiting time is long as the stall owner prepare the ingredients by himself.In case of any ingredients that is running out he will have to take from the fridge and prepare again.The minced meat noodles($3) come with braised mushroom,fried fish slices,fish cake,minced meat,meatball,fishball,pork lards,bean sprout and lettuces which is worth it.The mee pok is cooked perfectly as it got the QQ taste.The mee pok does not feel dry because it is soak in 1/4 of the mixed sauce.The soup is flavorful and when i felt that the noodles is too spicy i will add in more soup to neutralize it.…Read More

When it come to 24 Hours dim sum at Geylang,Wen Dou Sek is the first that come to my mind.I went there for late dinner time and was fortunate to found a table at the outside.One of the famous dish that almost every other table is ordering from Wan Dou Sek is the chee cheong fun.I choose my chee cheong fun filled with prawn($3.50).The chee cheong fun taste unique because of the special light brown sauce.The sauce taste similar to XO sauce and is a little salty.…Read More

This is the famous hokkien mee along Geylang that uses charcoal instead of electrical stove.The stall owner fry the hokkien mee in large batch each time.I was lucky that when i reaches i was able to get hold of one of these ready to serve hokkien mee.Each batch of waiting time is definitely more than 15 minutes.The hokkien mee($5) is the drier version.The use of charcoal really brings out the wok hei in the hokkien mee and i like that they added pork lards in it.The prawns and squid are fresh since both taste sweet.The noodles are well cooked too,not too soft nor soggy.So far this the only place that i know of that is still using charcoal to cook the hokkien mee.…Read More

This is a surprisingly cheap and good roasted stall in coffee shop.Had this char siew rice($2.50) that come with big slices of char siew which is very worth it for the price.The char siew meat is similar to hong kong kind of char siew.It is well roasted and the meat is juicy and tender unlike those dry and thin slice of char siew found in most wanton noodles.The plain rice is moist and not dry which goes very well with the char siew and roasted sauce.…Read More

For 24 hours eateries,i often come to Yong He Eating House for the soya beancurd.This time round i get to try their braised pork rice($3.20).The portion of the braise pork rice is not for main dish as it is just a bowl of rice with some braised pork,tofu,braised egg,preserved saltyvegetable topped on it.The braised pork has gt a strong flavor to it and mainly garlic fragrant.The taste is quite oily and salty itself but alright when mixed with the rice.…Read More

As i was passing by the level 1 food kiosk area,i saw a standing banner stating $3.90 for lunch promotion.The waitress standing besides the banner explained that the $3.90 is nett price as there is no GST or service charge and add on $1 for milk tea.Thinking that for the lunch promotion,i get to enjoy food court prices with restaurant ambiance i gave it a try.Ordered the fried rice and add on the milk tea for $1.The fried rice took quite a long time to serve even though there is not many dine in customers.The ingredients for the fried rice is mainly vegetable but the plus point is that it got the wok hei. There are a few outlets for this western food stall all over Singapore. Went to JEM and saw it at Cook House food court. After I order and paid I was given a small device as this is to allow me to go back to my seat while waiting for the food. However, as I was seated too far from the stall the device did not alarm nor nudge(this was explained by the stall cashier).The carbonara spaghetti($6.50) which i think is quite pricey for food court standard. The carbonara sauce is extremely creamy but bland.The bacon is quite salty and the spaghetti is over cooked(not al dente) at all. As this is the first time i patronized this stall,i gave a missed to their penang laksa and chose the curry chicken with bee hoon as a safe choice.The curry chicken with bee hoon($3) tastes exactly like laksa (the stall is selling singapore laksa too) although it is named as curry chicken noodles.The gravy taste is quite alright as i can taste the coconut fragrant and it is not very watery.The ingredients included bee hoon,a half piece of potato and a small drumstick which i think is quite alright for the price.…Read More

Under the bento set,the curry chicken cutlet rice ($5.50) is the most recommended for it's portion and taste.For dine in,i have to pay first and then get receipt while waiting for the food to be prepare.The curry for the cutlet rice taste very similar to Japanese curry,it is creamy and not spicy at all.There are also some small chunk of potatoes in the curry.The chicken cutlet uses chicken breast meat and is flatten to make it look bigger.The chicken cutlet is well seasoned and i like the dash of chilli powder on it.However,It seems like there is also sour plum powder added which make it more appetizing.This bento set is quite unique as it is like Japanese-Taiwanese fusion dish and it is worth to try.…Read More

The char siew rice($3) from pontain is quite an unique dish as the whole plate of char siew rice is filled with so much gravy.This set come with a half braised egg and a bowl of milky soup.The char siew taste similar to mocked char siew that u can get from the supermarket.It does not have any roasted fragrant but it is tender.The only thing i like is the milky soup as it is light in taste and tasty.…Read More
