I came here with one goal in mind - to try it's signature custard bun. My friend was raving about it so I came here to try it with my dear hubby smile We were here for dinner so their dim sum spread was not on offer then. Thankfully, their signature custard bun & steamed dumplings were still available for ordering, to my delight.

- Signature custard bun ($6)

- The oozing custard bun

The custard bun came in a cool-looking wooden box. As I bit into my bun with immense anticipation, I had to scramble to salvage the rich salted-egg molten custard filling as it oozed out. The best I've tried so far! LOL, you couldn't wipe off the grin from my face after I had two of the buns. Yup, I had 2, hubby only 1. tongue

- Special stewed beef brisket with fried rice ($12)

The stewed beef was indeed special, the sauce was very good. You could tell that they probably had to stew the beef for a long time to get that taste. We didn't wanna waste the sauce so we mopped it up with the fried rice haha. The beef meat was very tender and the tendons was so soft that it felt like it melts in your mouth with each bite. The fried rice was not bad, although it was a tad dry & less tasty than I would have preferred. However my hubby feels it's perfect that way as an accompaniment to the more tasty stewed beef's broth so that there's a balance to the dish.

- Steamed dumplings aka xiao long bao ($6.50)

The steamed dumplings were quite big & chock-full of broth. But because of this, the dumpling actually breaks open with your attempt to lift it up onto your spoon. I kept trying several ways to scoop up the dumpling carefully so that it will not break but failed at all attempts. (hey, I was very gentle ok?) Luckily there's still plenty of broth left even after losing some on the journey to your stomach. The amount of pork given is generous so that might have led to the weight pulling the dumpling down with gravity. (Ok, getting a bit technical here...). The broth was flavorful - would have been better if there's more of the pork sweetness taste instead of just savory taste. It came a close second to my number one beloved xiao long bao at din tai feng.

There's plenty of seating available in the restaurant which was painted in oh-so-cool black. There was classic Chinese pop music piped overhead arranged in a jazzy-kind of way which was a tad eerie though. But probably it was to go with the whole cool Chinese theme. We had a table besides the waterfront area, a nice, romantic setting. We were kinda under-dressed for the atas setting in the restaurant but the staff were still very friendly. They also changed our plates midway through the meal and constantly offered to top up our glasses of warm water. Good service!

- A sneak peek of the interior

The food's a bit pricey (those we ordered were the more affordable ones) but definitely worth it for the food, service & ambience!

Earlier on, I was recommended a place by my friend who told me that the place had a very nice fries. So, I went there with her a day (Earlier than 28 Dec). It's a nice place to hang out, doing projects or even chit-chatting!

Their lunch set is very affordable and come with free flow of drinks and soup! Set lunch is only at $10.90! Most importantly, join their fanclub and get 20% off every single dish! The staff there are very friendly and approachable.

Whenever I'm there, I would order either their grilled chicken set meal or grilled fish set as it's very nice lol
They also sell New Zealand Ice-cream and also coffee and tea smile
Love their Crispy Fried Mushroom. Come with different types of sauces too. Eat it when its hot! Very nice!

I would recommend people to try out this restaurant! Give them 4.5 stars out of 5! lol

Whenever you are in the area this is a die die must eat dish. The wait is well worth it, expect to wait up till 40mins for a bowl of noodle. Was there around 10 am and most the good stuff had almost been sold out. Either you call early to order or be prepared to wait as was told by one of the regulars. I would prefer to wait as I may not know when I will drop by.

The dry version taste just right, noodle very springy. The sauce taste sweetish and not too salty. It mixed well with the noodles. I find the chilli a little too spicy for my liking. Those who prefer extra hot they also have extra serving of chilli for you. Overall I find it nice and filling for a brunch.

If you are looking for a Pet Friendly Café where you, your dogs and your friends can go gathered together over a nice meal, this is definitely a great place.
They served great fine dining style food and their chef used to be the Head Chef for 10 Downing Street (UK ‘Istana’)!!!
Great place for your Christmas party and new year party too!!!

Yong Chai Chicken Rice Smile Sep 26, 2011

Yong Chai

This shop is actually situated at 5 Coronation Road, beside The Curry Wok, just opposite the Xing Wang restaurant at Coronation Plaza. (That was the address I submitted to Openrice). It has already been in business for many years. The entrance of the eatery was a little narrow, with the dishes displayed on a glass cabinet on the left. There was a small air-condition sitting area at the hindside of the shop. Their signature dish is chicken rice. They have other side dishes like 'Cai Fan'.
This day, I ordered a plate of chicken rice with added bitter gourd and a cup of coffee. Total cost was $4.50. A very elderly man with shaky hand brought me my plate of chicken rice. I was so afraid that he might drop the plate. Then a very elderly woman served me my coffee. To me, the pair looked like the parents of the seller, or might even be the one to pass down the business.
I was so eager to eat my food that I had forgotten to snap a picture of it first. The rice itself was so fragrant and delicious that you could even eat it by itself. By the time I realised that I didn't take a photo, the rice was almost gone, only the chicken and bitter gourd left, as shown on my photo.tongue The gourd was well-cooked, not bitter at all.
