Food
Ever since the news of Mr Lim's retirement broke up, the place has more queues than usual and parking was scarce. One can actually realized that the power of mass media is so great. It took us quite sometime to secure a 6 person seats. We have to squeeze in one small round table with neighbor table's chair blocking our way.

My first visit was like about 12 years back. In my all years of patronage, the taste of the food never fail us. If you read the reviews, the duck meat are as good as they said. This teochew style boneless braised duck meat with its scrumptious gravy had won many Singaporeans stomach and hearts over the years.

A plate soy sauce-based gravy flavored with cinnamon and other herbs and spices of duck meat shared by 6. This is the signature dish of all.

The way Mr Lim's prepare the food may appeared to be simple and ordinary but in fact is was way good than one expects. The meat are tender, even the rice smell good with the gravy.

Besides having the duck as the main, these are the dishes that we will order during my visit. The Toufu and kang kong with dried prawns (sambal kang kong). They may seems very simple dishes to us but these small dishes makes one feels very at home.

Service
The uncle who insist in speaking English looks the same, the way he speaks, the way he dressed, the way he total up one's bill in a dreaming manner, the dishes/drinks they offered has never changed. Everything you see, eat and feel the time had stop in the 1960s. We always get to laugh and giggle when they asked if we want duck "spare parts" when they are referring to internal organs of the ducks.

Ambience
Not fogetting that the rustic interior and exterior of Lim's Eating House has stayed the same through the years.

Price
The portion of may have shrink in size due to inflation but seems like the food goers will always come back once in a while to patronize the food and forget about the price hike.

Recommendation / Tips
They are closing and no intention of letting their children to take over. I will definitely miss a good teochew braised duck!

Categories : Japanese | Pasta

Met up with some friends for a dinner at Bene Spaghetti and since it was a new restaurant, we tried quite a few dishes out of their set meal and was pleasantly surprised at the variety and the taste.

Firstly, the service was awesome and we were nicely greeted by the Japanese boss and the local waiters. We were given the menu and to call the waiter to order, we have to wave a wooden clapper then they would come. It was really cute!

We ordered the set meal enough for 4 persons.

Starters was a simple salad tossed with vinaigrette as well as soft white bread bun that they baked themselves.

Main dish: Blue Cheese Cream Sauce Mushi Pasta
It was served in a really cute way and it was still cooking when it was served. There was a timer for 5 minutes upon serving and when the timer is up, the waitress would open up the cover and wow, the blue cheese cream sauce smell heavenly. It was my favourite of all main dishes and the spaghetti was al dente and the sauce fragrant. Must try.

Main dish: Seafood risotto
Love the mix of seafood inside the risotto and it was slightly soupy which I didn't mind. The risotto also comes which a basil-sesame mix which is optional, and I find that mixed into the rice it made it extra fragrant.

Main dish: Tomato Sauce Gnocchi Gratin
I'm not a fan of Gnocchi but I feel it was cooked just nice and the taste of the gratin was really good.. The tomato sauce was very fragrant.

For dessert, we had Tiramisu that was included in the set meal (not pictured). However, we decided to add on the Bamboo white wine which tasted so awesome! It tastes of light white wine with bits of light grape fruit sweetness. It was served in a Bamboo jar which was really cute and very japanese.

End of the dinner, we were warmly greeted farewell and as a gift, we were each given a small loaf of the bread they baked themselves, I assume because they don't serve overnight bread and thus will give the extras away. It was really pleasant and I would want to visit the restaurant again.

Three Wombats Cafe Smile Mar 23, 2013

I was initially deterred by the remote location, but found out that it is only a short ride from Novena MRT by taking either bus 24 or 131. The whitewashed interior and sofa seating gives it a very laidback and intimate vibe. However, the seating is rather limited, but the excellent service more than makes up for it.I had the $10 set meal which was on offer on streetdeal.sg. This comes with a main,a soup and a drink.
Lemon Tea

Lemon Tea

I chose a pot of lemon tea for my drink, which turned out to be very fragrant and soothing. A good palate cleanser.
Beef Lasagna

Beef Lasagna

The server recommended me the beef lasagna($11.90,ala-carte), and it was pure comfort food-fresh minced beef with chunky tomato sauce amidst pasta sheets slathered in cheese.
Rosemary Chicken

Rosemary Chicken

The rosemary chicken($11.90,ala-carte) was also memorable and came in a sizeable portion.Tender chicken with salad and garden vegetables (awesome grilled potato chunks) as sides.
Winglets

Winglets

They ran out of mushroom soup($3.90,ala-carte), but the waitress was nice enough to offer a tasty replacement- a row of 8 winglets with the special Wombats (tomato herb) sauce($7.90,ala-carte). A healthier option than fried chicken wings because this version is lightly grilled, retaining its juicy texture. The Wombats sauce was rather addictive, with a tart tomato taste.
Cafe Exterior

Cafe Exterior

The cafe's exterior was very warm and welcoming, with a hipster charm and quirky decor.

Dropped by 2D1N Soju Bang for their famed Korean BBQ buffet. The buffet place is housed on the upper floor while the a la carte restaurant is housed on the lower floor of the converted shophouse. There has been an attempt to improve the ventilation upstars- the windows are all flung open and they used several fans and wind blowers to help cool the surrounding air and improve air circulation. As we visited on a weekday dinner time, the place was not fully packed to the brim, but even at its busiest crowds, I did not feel overly uncomfortable or hot from the simultaneous cooking happening in all BBQ grills. My only gripe is the narrow space and walkways. As the tables are quite packed closely, I felt it was hard to get out of my seat to get food without disturbing the neighbouring tables.

2D1N has an extensive selection of marinated meats- beef, pork, chicken in a large array of sauces and marinates are available in the buffet counters. Meat lovers will definitely rejoice here. Besides the meat selection, there is also a small salad bar with BBQ staples such as enoki mushrooms, kim chi. There were also fresh prawns for BBQ. Drinks wise, there's a drink dispenser which has free flow iced water or lime juice. The BBQ meat selection is what you should be gunning for here. The variety of meat is mind boggling and for a moment I was a little mixed up too. Luckily, the place has the buffet counters labelled with the right meat. The BBQ meats all turned out very well- if you do not overcooked it (till it is burnt black), the meats turned out really tender and flavourful. The marinates were all different and distinct from each other and it's hard not to find something you do not like.

Service wise, the staff were really observant and changed out BBQ foil at regular intervals when the grill got too clogged up or too burnt.

This is probably the most amazing restaurant that I've ever dined in.
I've never had meals at atas restaurants overseas and I wonder what are their service standards like but Wooloomooloo's was mind-blowing.
I called and made a reservation few days ago and a day before, they called me back to confirm.

The entrance of the restaurant is a wine cabinet as well as a fridge-room at the side. It stores meat and we sneaked in to have a feel of what is it like!

First impression - excellent.

Here is the food:

Complimentary bread. It was so nice and fluffy and they were so generous to give the whole loaf for just the two of us! We had to take away and they were so kind to pack it nicely in a box and place it in a fabric bag carrier! The waitress reminded me to take the bread when I leave.

Tuna and Crab Tartare. Has a layer of avocado and diced oranges. We don't really know how to appreciate this dish but the oranges gave it a refreshing taste! It was the first time I tasted raw crab. I wonder how they took out the flesh from the shell.

Lobster Bisque. The soup is really gao and flavourful there was a huge chunk of lobster meat! $20

Here comes the lead actor of the night. My filet mignon, in medium rare. Tender and juicy. Well grilled lol

Inside. It was a thick and huge chunk of meat and the consistency in done-ness was throughout the whole piece of meat. Impressive.

We ordered Wooloomooloo steak as well, also in medium rare. The outer rims was slightly more done than medium rare but it was fine. Just a speck of imperfection. The manager insisted on changing for us but rejected because it was really fine.

Creamy mashed potato. It was so well blended that you don't get lumps of potato, yet you can taste the find bits in every spoonful.

Sautéed Mushrooms

Warm Chocolate Cake. We didn't want to order cos we were damn full after all the food already. But I insisted, die die must try this. Just nice, we were told that it takes 17minutes to be done. Got time for a breather (:
The picture says it all.. Oozing goodness. It is definitely the best that I've tried and I'm not sure if I can find out that beats this. $25.

The waitresses were on their toes man. Super alert that when my partner accidentally raised his hand, they came over. They constantly topped up our water and checked if the food is ok for us and whether the meat was cooked to our liking.
We ordered a few dishes that were recommended by various food bloggers but we gave the side dishes a miss. To our surprise, the manager (I suppose he is) brought mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms for us to try. Really warm and friendly.
The meal burned a hole in our pockets though. You could say that we've paid for the service. But to be honest, what you pay is what you get. And I've gotten what I paid (:
