Mixed vegetable rice OK Jul 31, 2012

Another alternative for mixed vegetable rice when my regular stall is closed. Some of my favourite dishes at this stall are prawn paste chicken, sweet & sour pork and fried omelette. The dishes here cooked simply with a passable standard but it is cheaper than my regular stall. I paid only $3.30 for such a packet of mixed vegetable rice. My favourite dish among all is the prawn paste chicken. The chicken is marinated well and fried nicely to give it the crispy texture.

Mixed Vegetable Rice! OK Jul 11, 2011

Another quick dinner near home.

This is one of the 2 mixed vegetable rice stalls still open for dinner. I went ahead to order fried fish fillet, sweet & sour pork together with fried tau kwa for $3.00. The fried fish fillet tasted nice though a little too bland as not enough sauce, the sweet & sour pork tasted good and the tau kwa seemed fine too. The white rice was moist and fluffy.

Their standard has been a little inconsistent and today happened to be one of the better days.

Mixed vegetable rice for $3.00.

Mixed vegetable rice for $3.00.

Spending per head: Approximately $3.00

An average mixed vegetable rice stall. It will never by an option to eat from this stall and the only exception is when there is no other better option like during Chinese New Year period.

The curry vegetable did not have a distinctive curry taste, the sweet and sour pork was a little too tough, and the fried fish fillets were dry and almost tasteless.

It might be cheap but i refused to compromise to sub standard foods. I deserved better, so do you. smile

Cheap Cakes OK Jan 21, 2013

Pancake King is a rather famous bakery stall group in Singapore, I came to know that they do have a stall in Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre when I had my breakfast there that day, so I bought some cakes there to try.
Their buns and cakes smelled very nice and fragrant, I could smell them when I was a few meters away!!!!!

Anyway, I bought a huge piece of their banana cake and carrot cake.
FYI, their cakes were sold in big blocks lol
Both cakes costs me about $2.20 each, ONLY!!

Carrot Cake:

The carrot cake was a very big one.
The sweet white shortening topping on top enhanced the taste and appearance of the cake!
When I bite the cake, I could feel the bits of fresh carrots in it.
Weird for me, as I didn't like the cake to be a little 'wet'.
Love the texture of both the cakes, as they were soft and smooth.
However, I found it a little too buttery.

Banana Cake (have been sliced/cut off):

The banana cake was also quite buttery.
The cake was very fragrant, the scent of banana was very strong,
I felt hungry every time I smelled it when I opened the polystyrene foam box on the way home.
I love this banana cake more, compared to the carrot cake.
It was really delicious and smooth!!!
ONE of my favourite banana cakes! smile

It's very rare nowadays, to find traditional bakeries like Pancake King.
Modern bakeries nowadays sell all sorts of 'strange' fancy breads and cakes but still, they do not taste as good as traditional breads and cakes such as curry buns, kaya buns, banana cakes, etc.
Homemade bakeries are always the BEST!

Love the service there, and the environment too.
Eating in Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre is a great choice because of there are many options of food to choose from!!

Peanut pancake Smile Mar 06, 2013

I really like min chiang kueh so was glad to see this stall selling it! The pancake is freshly made because of high turnover rate so the outside is crispy and the inside is moist and soft. The dough here is slightly different than some other types being more soft and slightly springy a little bit like bak tong goh. The peanuts and sweetened sufficiently too so the combination goes well together
