I am quite hungry by the time I reach Tiong Bahru market as I did not have a proper breakfast in the morning. I saw this stall selling Western food and decided to try out the chicken chop with rice. The chicken chop with rice comes with salad and baked beans and it is quite affordable at $4. I got a photo of my colleague's plate of chicken chop as I had already eaten half of mine before remembering to take a photo of it. The chicken chop is not the whole piece but it has been cut into smaller pieces, something like the chicken dishes which you will order at the economic rice stall, hence I guess thats why it is cheaper at $4. The portion of rice is quite large so it is quite filling. The chicken is quite tender and well flavoured and I really love the sauce. It is not too salty so it is really tasty when you mix it with the rice. The other things are quite standard, I didn't really like the salad as it was too creamy for my liking.

Spending per head: Approximately $4

Egg benedict OK Sep 18, 2013

This is quite a famous cafe in Tiong Bahru estate. We went there during a weekday at around 12pm and there isn't much of a crowd. There is three different areas to sit in the cafe - the outdoor area, the air conditioned area where you order the food and the backyard which is non air-conditioned but still cooling because of the fans. We sat at the backyard, which is quite a unique experience since it was very quaint. For the food offerings, there is a few different types of food sold - Toasties (bread with fillings) and there is also the all day breakfast menu. I ordered the Eggs Benedict $14 from the all day breakfast menu. The eggs benedict are quite alright, not as runny as I would have liked, but still ok. The runnier the eggs, the more the bread will soak up the yolk which made it more tasty, but the eggs are half runny. It is average as I had better egg benedict before, but if you want something to go with your coffee, this can be a good choice.

Chicken Pies OK Sep 18, 2013

I ordered a box chicken pies $20 from Baker's Oven Pattisieries to bring to office for a function. I ordered this because I saw from the website that there are 5 different types of chicken pies and I thought it will satisfy most people in office. The 5 different flavours are chicken, black pepper chicken, vegetables, chicken mushroom and char siew chicken. It was warm when I bought it but by the time I reached office, it was cold. I got the cleaner lady to help us toast in the over and it was as good as fresh. The chicken pie is quite large and the outer pastry is quite crispy when it is warm. I ate the chicken mushroom flavour and I thought it was tasty as the chicken is well marianated and the button mushrooms are quite juicy. However, like one of the previous reviewers mentioned, the filling is quite little so it would be better if there is more filling. Most of the time, it was just pastry in my mouth and not much of the filling.

Daikokuya Ramen OK Sep 17, 2013

I was finding a place for dinner together with my wife at Robertson Quay when we saw this ramen place. I remembered seeing it before in Raffles City and hence decided to try the food here. The menu is quite extensive, there are different types of ramen and different types of soup base - miso, spicy miso, shio and shoyu. There is also the tsukemen here which is dipping ramen, where the ramen is separate from the soup. One thing special is that in the menu, there is also mini ramen which is good if you want to try other things and not just eat ramen. I ordered the Sapporo miso ramen. The miso soup is quite adequately flavoured but not too salty. I was able to finish every bit of the soup although my wife chided me for that. The ramen is quite thin and it is not as springy as I would have liked. I guess it may have been very slightly overcooked. The char siu is just average, I have had better char siu before. I wouldn't specially come back here for its ramen as there are other better ramen stalls.

Standard fare OK Sep 17, 2013

I have never been to this area before so I just settled for mixed vegetables rice from Chang Cheng. It was around 6:10pm and most of the dishes are still available in large quantities. I got the braised egg, dark soya sauce chicken and beancurd skin. The person charged me $3 in total. The portion of rice was quite a lot and the portion of ingredients given are quite alright. The beancurd skin is still a little hard. It would have tasted better if it is cooked for longer periods of time such that is it softer. The dark soya sauce chicken is bordering on salty, but luckily the portion of rice is quite a lot, so I simply mixed it up together with the rice and eat it.
