Hong Kong Sheng Kee dessert  OK Sep 16, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

We dropped by Hong Kong Sheng Kee for some dessert as the menu looked enticing. Their specialty seems to be mango as there are many mango based desserts on their menu. Besides desserts, they also have chinese food like wanton noodles and dim sum items as well so it is quite comprehensive. I ordered the black sesame paste as I wanted to have something warm. The black sesame paste costs $3.30. It arrived quite shortly after I ordered, probably because the server only had to dish it out from the pot. The black sesame paste is quite ordinary. In terms of taste, it is rather sweet and the black sesame fragrance was not that strong. Also, the paste is not as thick as I hoped it would be, it seems to be more watered down. I guess maybe I should stick with trying their signature mango desserts instead next time.

Fried noodles OK Sep 16, 2013

Categories : Malay | Coffeeshop

This has revamped its store front recently and the stall seemed to have changed hands as well as the owners are no longer there. There is another bee hoon stall opposite but this stall has a shorter queue so I ordered from this stall since I was rushing for time. I ordered the fish fillet together with my mixture of noodle and kway tiao. The kway tiao is rather oily though it is very tasty. As for the noodles, in contrast, it is quite dry and hard and it is not very nice. I am glad I added the fish fillet as it was just fried and it was warm especially tasty. There are also other ingredients like otah, luncheon meat, fishcake and more. However, I will only buy from this stall if I am rushing for time since I find that the noodles are not up to standard.

Chee Cheong Fun OK Sep 16, 2013
Categories : Hawker Centre

My favorite stall for chee cheong fun is not open so I went around the food centre hunting for another stall that sells it. I found this stall and thought it quite interesting that this stall sells both orh jian and chee cheong fun. I decided to try ordering from them a packet for takeaway. The sweet sauce is very tasty and it went very well with the chee cheong fun and yam cake. The sweet sauce is sweeter than the one from my usual stall. I preferred the sauce from my usual stall but even so, I find it refreshing for a change to try something new from another stall. As for the chee cheong fun here, it is quite normal, I guess it is probably sourced from a factory and not handmade. Nonetheless, the taste is alright and you can consider buying from them if you have cravings for chee cheong fun.

Average chicken rice OK Sep 16, 2013

I bought a packet of chicken rice for takeway back home for dinner as my wife did not cook. There is only the white chicken available as the soya sauce chicken was already sold out, hence I got the white chicken which costs me $3. The portion was slightly less, but I think that is the case for most hawkers now. The chicken meat is quite bland on its own but once paired with chilli, it is quite nice as the chilli is fragrant and not too spicy. They even have their chilli paste for sale, each bottle is $3.50. The chicken rice is on the saltish side but luckily it is not that oily. Overall, I think it is the taste is quite average.

Vegetable Rice OK Sep 16, 2013
Categories : Food Court

I ordered a plate of economic rice from this stall. The number of dishes at this stall is quite a lot and there are quite a few varieties to choose from. I eventually ordered the braised dark sauce chicken, a slice of rectangular tofu and vegetables fried with egg. The auntie who took the food for me was quite stingy as the ingredients are quite little. Also, when I asked her to put some gravy over my rice, she did not do so, though I think it was because she did not hear me and she had moved to serve other customers. Anyway, the chicken is really nice. I like the dark sauce flavour as it is very fragrant. I think they also added sesame oil in cooking the chicken because there is a hint of the flavour. The vegetables is also quite nice with the egg coating. While service is quite poor, the food was quite nice, so I may order from them again if the auntie is not the one serving the food. My rice costs $2.90
