Chicken Rice  Smile Sep 23, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Chicken Rice

I ordered a plate of chicken plus one braised egg from Xing Yun Hainanese Chicken rice for sharing with my wife. I thought it is quite special that this stall uses tomatoes as the "garnishing" instead of cucumber. The chicken here is really tender and soft. The chicken skin is quite bouncy and has a very springy texture which I love. THe gravy here is not too saltish and it helps to enhance the taste of the chicken. The chili here is also very nice, not too spicy and if you can take chili, I will recommend that you dip the chicken into the chili for a better taste. Lastly, the rice. I personally quite like the rice here as it is not too oily and yet still very fragrant. Overall, I enjoy the food and will be back. I can't really remember the price but it is around $10 for the both of us.

Matcha Parfait Smile Sep 22, 2013

I had some time to kill before meeting the client so I went for a desserts at Watami. At the time I went, it is already 2pm hence there is no crowd at all. I ordered the Matcha Parfait, which costs $6.80. The Matcha Parfait has two scoops of green tea ice cream together with cream and red beans. The bottom of the glass is chocolate, followed by cornflakes. There is also a oreo stick. The presentation wins a lot of points as it is visually very attractive. The taste is also good. The green tea ice cream is not too sweet and the cream is very smooth and it makes the ice cream very creamy and smooth when eaten together. The red beans are also soft and delicious. It is quite hard to reach for the toppings at the bottom of the ice cream though. I had to eat one scoop of the ice cream first before I could reach the cornflakes. The combination of all the ingredients work and I really enjoy the parfait.

Pretzels  Smile Sep 22, 2013

Although Auntie Anne had been around for a long time, it did not occur to me to try them until my wife suggested. Glancing at the menu, there are quite a few varieties of pretzels from sweet (raisin, cinnamon sugar etc) to savoury (sesame, sour cream, garlic etc) and there are also pretzels where there will be a sauce to go with it for dipping. I ordered the garlic pretzel. I love the pretzel, it is soft and doughy on the inside and crisp on the outside. I think the pretzel had just been made since it was still warm when we are eating it. The garlic flavour is strong but not too overwhelming. I had wanted to order two but fortunately I only ordered one as it is quite filling. The pretzel cost $3.50 if I remember correctly.

Fried Kway Tiao Smile Sep 21, 2013

Categories : Food Court | Noodles

I saw quite a lot of people having the dishes from this stall, so I went to check out the dishes. They have fried carrot cake, fried kway tiao and fried hokkien mee. I decided to order the fried kway tiao. The kway tiao's aroma whets my appetite and I am glad that the taste did not disappoint. It is indeed as tasty as it smells. The kway tiao is fried with egg and beansprouts and I love eating the bits of egg as it has a nice aroma. The kway tiao is also delicious as it is both sweet and savoury. The portion size is good for one person and I was quite full after eating it.

Spending per head: Approximately $4

Kway Chap Smile Sep 21, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre

My colleagues and I had lunch at havelock food centre and we decided to try out the kway chap store. The kway chap store here has quite a long queue. We had to wait for around 20 minutes before getting our order. The kway is very thin and even though it is thin, it does not break easily. It is very smooth and it is not too doughy. The soup for the kway is also quite nice as it is slightly herby. As for the ingredients, it is quite fresh as the intestines do not have the stench and it is thoroughly cleaned. Pairing the ingredients with the chili dip makes the taste even better. I would not mind queuing for it again.
