Fish Soup OK Sep 22, 2013
Categories : Food Court | Chinese Soup

Recently, I tried out the fish soup from the Fish Delights stall. I chose the fried fish and requested for milk to be added to the soup for extra flavour. The fish soup comes with some lettuce, tomato, seaweed and of course, the fried fish. I also got a bowl of rice to go with the soup. The fried fish is just average. The fish meat is quite little, so I felt like I am eating the fried skin most of the time. The soup is rather tasty, the addition of milk makes the soup really flavourful. I drank quite a lot of the soup and the result is that I felt quite thristy afterwards, which means the soup probably has quite a lot of msg in it. Maybe I will try the sliced fish soup next time instead of the fried fish. The fish soup and rice costs $4.50.

Ajisen Ramen  OK Sep 21, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Ramen | Kids-Friendly

I went with my long time friend to Ajisen Ramen for lunch. We both ordered our own ramen and also got two sides to share, the ageshi tofu and fried chicken. For my ramen, I ordered the spicy miso ramen ($11). The ramen comes with half of an egg, char siu and condiments like black fungus and spring onions. The miso soup taste quite nice and I felt that having spicy miso soup makes the taste of the soup more robust instead of just having it original without chili. The char siu is not as tender as what I had from other ramen places but still passable. I particularly love the noodles here as it is quite springy in texture and not soggy. The sides are quite alright. I love the tofu more than the chicken as the chicken wasn't warm when it was served to us and it has too much batter and very little chicken flesh.

Spending per head: Approximately $15

Kway Chap Smile Sep 21, 2013

My colleagues and I had lunch at havelock food centre and we decided to try out the kway chap store. The kway chap store here has quite a long queue. We had to wait for around 20 minutes before getting our order. The kway is very thin and even though it is thin, it does not break easily. It is very smooth and it is not too doughy. The soup for the kway is also quite nice as it is slightly herby. As for the ingredients, it is quite fresh as the intestines do not have the stench and it is thoroughly cleaned. Pairing the ingredients with the chili dip makes the taste even better. I would not mind queuing for it again.

XO Fish Head  Smile Sep 21, 2013

My 2 other colleagues and I specially went to Holland Village XO Fish Head bee hoon restaurant early on a Saturday evening because we have heard about the crowds during weekends. We secured our seats and made our order quickly. We ordered the XO fish soup as well as a plate of vegetables. The fish is fried and the fish slices are in large chunks which is very generous. The fish is also very fresh with the fish meat being very tender. The fried fish soaked up most of the essence of the soup so it is really very tasty. The soup is very robust and full of flavour. We could not resist drinking up every bit of the soup even though it made us rather thirsty afterwards because it is really that good. Do try the soup with xo as I think there is an option for soups without xo.

Orh Jian Smile Sep 21, 2013

After our meal, I got a plate of fried orh jian for the group of us to share. The omelette is quite crispy and tasty. Actually, orh jian is mostly egg and there are very few oysters. I find that the orh jian here is quite alright, it is not too fleshy as it is small, but the important thing is that it is fresh. The chili is sourish which is perfect because the orh jian is rather oily and having some sourish chili helps in removing the greasy feeling when eating the oyster omelette. I got the $4 portion which has around 6-7 oysters in the dish. While the dish is quite unhealthy, it is alright once in a while, especially if you are sharing it with other people.
